Oh Ra, anthing but that...

Oh Ra, anything but that…

Anzu.

Otogi’s eyes shot wide open as Yugi’s favourite cheerleader registered in his brain. The nanosecond the realization was made, he repressed a shudder as he all but tore his eyes away from Anzu, whipping his head around so quickly he had accidentally smacked himself in the face with his trademark die earring. Rubbing the side of his face which now bore a red mark as proof of his violent encounter with jewelery, Otogi’s blood ran cold in his veins as he heard suspicious laughter from behind him.

‘Great, now that wench probably thinks I was staring at her—well, I guess I was, but she probably thought it meant I’m interested… Although I really should have known it was her… I should have known better than to not think of who it was more clearly. That’s probably a damned love letter to Yugi, you’d think she’d get the hint that she really has no chance with him by now, considering he’s involved and such… Well, she IS stupid…" he thought, mentally chastising himself for having made such a childish error. Also, much to his obvious chagrin, the mysterious laughter persisted. He shot Anzu the death glare to end all death glares, and yet the laughter still continued, it was then he realized said laughter wasn’t even coming from Anzu’s general direction, an sou sounded suspiciously male…

Otogi whirled around again, only to come face to face with the one, the only, Seto Kaiba, laughing maniacally, most likely at his expense.

‘Wonderful, I don’t think I’ve been so entertained since Mokuba tried to convince me to adopt a dog and I was forced to tell him housebreaking Jounouchi would be an impossible task – even for me!" Kaiba thought, laughing and wiping a solitary tear from the corner of his eye.

‘Well, now I’ve got thef-prf-proclaimed Mr. Perfect over there to deal with. Just who does that narcissist think he is, and where does he get off preaching like that anyway? Oh Ra, what have I done to deserve this?’ Otogi shot another glare at Anzu, cursing everything he knew that the girl’s sweater sleeves were the same colour as they guys’ uniforms, damn cold weather and new girls’ uniforms.

Then suddenly, the classroom door flew open and in walked an irate, snow-covered Ryou (well actually, it was Bakura, but Otogi doesn’t know that) who sat down irritably, mentioning that Jounouchi and Yugi were on their way and would be there any minute. Otogi was a little shocked, as he could have sworn that the mere mention of Yugi’s name tore a growl from Kaiba’s throat.

Sure enough, not five minutes later, the door flew open and Yugi happily bounced in, complete with a frozen Jounouchi in two.

"What’s wrong Jounouchi? Yugi made you spend the whole night in the doghouse again?" Otogi teased, unable to contain himself.

Without even looking up to check who the voice came from, a seemingly infuriated Jounouchi just snapped, "Oh, shut up Kaiba!" as he stalked off to his desk.

Needless to say, this resulted in an abrupt cease of the ominous laughter, as a shocked Otogi met the gaze of a confused, rapidly blinking Kaiba. Emerald and cobalt met in a sudden flash of blinding stupidity.

‘Why is the puppy blaming me? For once, I haven’t done anything yet!’ Kaiba thought, ‘And why is that new kid looking at me that way? It’s creeping me out.’

‘Why is Jounouchi blaming him and not me? Something strange is going on here.’ Otogi thought at the same exact moment.

Then both parties simultaneously realized they had been staring at each other, and promptly turned away. Both trying to busy themselves, they ignored their teacher giving up on actually trying to teach anything and deciding to let the class amuse themselves by giving them some free time while she went out for some coffee.
