Chapter 2
Nikki watched the two boys banter back and forth like brothers. She sighed softly, Yusei’s sharp ears catching the sadness in her voice. He looked at her with his prize-winning sapphire eyes (okay, they hadn’t won any prizes- YET!) and asked gently, “What’s wrong?”
“I spared the life of a werewolf today. If my family finds out, I’ll not only be disowned, but possibly sent into the forest with no weapons. And I’m sure you’ll know what that will lead to,” she whispered. Yusei nodded, looking concerned. Yami grinned, however, an idea forming that would please his “little brother” greatly.
“You could stay with us,” he suggested, making both the werewolf and the werewolf hunter look at him in surprise. “Well, why not? She can’t go home, and we have plenty of room.”
“You sure you can contain your bloodthirst around her?” Yusei asked warningly. Yami threw his hands up in the air.
“If I make a move on her, you’re free to tie me up,” Yami joked.
“Yeah, I bet you’d like that pervert,” Yusei growled, another scuffle starting between the two despite Nikki having placed Yusei’s arm in a sling.
“Boys, boys!” she shouted, making them stop. She smiled at them gently. “My life is in your hands already. I’ll stay. You could use someone to clean up this place anyway,” she commented, wrinkling her nose at the dirty clothes and trash strewn all over the cabin. Yami laughed.
“That’s all Yusei,” he declared. Said werewolf shoved the vampire down.
“Can it, bat boy!” Yusei snarled, and yet another fast and furious battle broke out. Nikki sighed. Yep, they were brothers.
