Part Two: Friend

I guess you could call this pre-slash? Just cuddly tiny Jack and Yusei being their cute selves.

Part Two: Friend

Yusei had long lost track of the number of times that he and Jack had secretly slipped out of the orphanage at night, following a need far greater than that to sleep. Their dragons were waiting for them and neither boy would have given up that bond for anything in the world, even though they hat no choice but hiding their monsters from curious eyes. No one in Satellite was keen on attracting the city's attention.

They ran through the dark streets, insufficiently illuminated by the occasional street light. The streets of Satellite were far from safe after dawn, but the two of them knew their way around and how to remain undetected. At the age of twelve they had a pretty good idea of what could happen if they encountered one of the many gangs that roamed the streets, but it was a risk they were willing to take.

They entered an empty ruin of a house and Yusei was tackled to the ground by an excited white dragon that, as soon as she had her human safely down, began to nudge and push and shove until she'd found the pocket of his jacket where he kept her treats.

“Hey, you're not supposed to get them now!”, he chided playfully while gently guiding her mouth away from the food.

Jack shook his head in amusement, petting his well behaved dragon's head. The two dragons had the size of grown ponies, though Red Demons was a little taller and more muscled. His scales were black and deep red and from his head rose three prominent horns. Jack thought he was magnificent.

“You quite done there?”, he asked after watching Yusei and Stardust cuddle for a little longer. Red Demons was a boy. Boys didn't cuddle. Except sometimes. But Yusei was cute and slender, it was okay to want to cuddle him.

Yusei got up and dusted off his pants, not that it helped much. He exchanged a look with Stardust, then faced Jack. They both smiled. The collapsed building had lost most of its roof and towards the back was the perfect place for a little duel if one wanted to hide from prying eyes.

Red Demons growled deep in his throat, getting ready for battle as he shuffled out his impressive wings. Stardust did the same, her wings slim and straight like blades. She bared her teeth at Red Demons, daring him to make the first move. Like Yusei, she was strongest when attacked first. On the other hand, Jack's dragon wasn't keen on defense, he wanted to fight!

“Go for it, Red Demons!”, Jack urged his dragon on and that was all the encouragement he needed.

Stardust was prepared though and the moment before Red Demons reached her she slipped to the side, beating the end of her tail against the red and black dragon. “Stardust!”, Yusei exclaimed in appreciation of his dragon's successful move.

“This is not over yet, Yusei!”, Jack warned him as Red Demons prepared his next attack.

Yusei smiled just a little. “Isn't it, Jack?”, he shot back and then Stardust was on Red Demons' back, sinking her teeth into his neck. They wrestled with each other for a moment, then the bigger dragon gave up on shaking her off.

Jack looked at his dragon in disapproval, sulking a little at the lost fight. He supposed this was payback for last night when Red Demons had Stardust pinned to the ground, but he still didn't like seeing his dragon lose.

Suddenly Yusei was next to him, grinning a little. “You're pouting.”, he pointed out with a smug undertone.
“Do not!”, Jack protested.

“Do too!”, Yusei gave back and a second later Jack was on him, pushing him to the ground so they were rolling around on the dusty floor just like their dragons had a moment before.

*

It was closer to morning than night when the boys got back to their beds, covered in dirt and drop dead tired. Yusei practically stumbled over his own feet and Jack wasn't much better off. They had left the dragons snuggling together in their hide-out place after the last fight so they would get back in time to catch a few hours of sleep.

Just until recently they had shared a bed more often than not, but then someone had told them that it was odd for two boys to do that and they had stopped. Except sometimes, when both felt like it, even though Jack said that boys didn't cuddle.

“Night, Yusei.”, Jack mumbled eyes closed already as he blindly reached for the blanket to pull over them.
Yusei curled up next to him. “G'night, Jack.”
