The Seeking of Memories

I'm uploading a chapter a little early than I anticipated but I was really excited because of how well I did on my grades :D

Just a little info Memoria will be a possible 30 chapters so I have a long way to go. There will be two other stories written at the same time and depending on which ones are more reviewed I'll work on those more.

No warnings for this chapter yet.

Chapter Two

The Seeking of Memories

“I just don’t get what ya lookin’ for.” Joey groaned, knowing no one was really paying attention to him. He rubbed the back of his neck and looked over Yugi. His best friend looked kind of sad. Joey couldn’t blame him really. Things hadn’t been all that peachy between everyone for a while. Noticing that Yami wasn’t any better off Joey crossed his arms and grumbled slightly. “Stop lookin’ so gloomy Yug, doesn’t suit ya.” Joey said his hand dropping onto Yugi’s head ruffling that shorter teen’s hair.

“Sorry,” Yugi apologized turning to Joey and attempted to smile. “I guess it’s just the atmosphere.” Yugi fixed his hair batting away Joey’s playful hand. “Stop ruffling my hair, it’ll look too messy.”

“Seems like Tristan is actually winning against Tea.” Yami said offhandedly not really paying attention.

Joey frowned. Yami had been acting the same way for a while now. He didn’t know the reasons why but it was also affecting Yugi and he couldn’t stand it when Yugi was depressed. The little guy was just too ‘cute’ to be depressed. Trying to turn his attention to Tristan and Tea’s duel his eyes strayed to the left, towards a certain CEO. He had been silent the whole time he had arrived. Joey, not minding too much, wondered why Kaiba was even there. It wasn’t like Kaiba to just randomly come and visit.

Kaiba must have felt his eyes on him because he looked up and met his gaze. Joey flushed heavily and turned back to the duel. “Yami, why don’t ya try and duel Kaiba?”

“Not interested,” he replied.

“I don’t know what’s wrong with you guys. Did something happen or what?” Joey asked sending an inquiring glance in Yugi’s direction.

“It’s really nothing Joey-isn’t Otogi supposed to be coming too?” Yugi said quickly changing the subject.

Knowing he wasn’t going to get anything out of either of them Joey started a conversation about the newest cards. Yugi talked animatedly about that. Even though during their small talk Yugi’s eyes strayed past him, Joey knew there was something amiss between him and Yami.

Yami excused himself from the dueling arena and went into the snack room. The dome was a convenient place. There were different dueling arenas on every floor and hang out rooms for summoners to chat and trade cards. He wasn’t intrigued much by the technology of the day but some things fascinated him. Dismissing the useless thoughts from his mind he selected a beverage and waited patiently for it to come out. It was not a good day. He was having dreams about his past again, especially the ones with Seth.

Picking up the bottle of water Yami sat in the window seat and looked down at the bustling streets of Domino. Hearing a soft click echo through the room Yami turned to the dueling arena. Kaiba stood there. He looked like he was leaving. Their eyes met and Yami turned away. “Shouldn’t you be in there with your friends?”

“I need time to think.” Yami said as simply as he could.

“As if I believe that.”

Seth’s smiling face appeared in Yami’s thoughts and he covered his eyes. Nearly jumping out of his skin when a hand landed on his shoulder he tried to brush it off but Seto caught his hand. Glaring up at Seto his gaze faltered as Seto’s face neared his own. Neither noticed the arena door close behind them. Yami knew what was going to happen, but he couldn’t resist. Seto was just like Seth in almost every way. Besides the fact that Seto didn’t believe he was a Pharaoh, everything was the same.

Yugi lay down on his bed. It was late and Yami still hadn’t come home yet. Not being able to sleep Yugi wandered downstairs and noticed a faint glow coming from the living room. Walking in cautiously he saw someone who looked just like the Dark Magician Girl. He remembered her from some of Yami’s memories. “Mana?” He asked softly and she turned to face him.

“Oh good you are here.” She said, the tone of her voice worried him. “Yugi, you must listen to me.” He nodded. “You and Yami are going to have to duel in order for him to pass into the afterlife, but…” Her whole body froze and she began to turn black. “No-I need more time. Yugi you mustn’t let him come here. He must stay in your world, you must lose!” She shouted trying to grip his shoulders but failing.

“Mana, what do you mean, why?” Yugi asked quickly.

“He’s in danger Yugi!” Mana said before she completely vanished leaving a shocked and frightened Yugi behind. Why was Yami in danger? What was going on? Feeling a sudden draft he heard the door close and rushed over to the entrance.

“Yugi, I didn’t think that you would still be awake.” Yami said kicking off his shoes.

“I was getting worried about you Yami.” Yugi said desperately wanting to ask Yami where he had been, but he probably knew, and he didn’t want to hear it in truth.

“There’s no need to worry aibou.” Yugi smiled at the pet name and leaned in the doorway. “Are you ready for our duel tomorrow?”

“Of course.” Yugi said, the fear about Yami being in danger still blaring in his mind. “Yami, if anything was wrong, you would tell me right?”

Yami looked up at him quickly. “That’s a strange question, of course I would tell you aibou.” Yugi didn’t believe a word Yami said. Leaving the topic Yugi moved into the kitchen and got a glass of water. Yami soon walked in and took a seat, he almost seemed like he was in pain. Yugi frowned and got another glass of water and handed it to him. “Thank you Yugi.”

“Where were you anyway?” Yami nearly choked on his water.

“I had some things I needed to do.” Yami said wiping the water off of his chin.

“Are you going to give me a real answer or are you going to hide it from me like you usually do?” Yugi asked. “Because there isn’t any point in us talking if you are.”

Yami almost seemed baffled, it almost made him smirk. “I was at Kaiba’s.” Yami answered.

“There was that so hard.” Yugi said trying to keep his voice level. “That was all I needed to know.” Yugi finished off his glass and decided to go on up to bed, finally.

“Yugi, was there something wrong today?”

‘Other than the fact I really love you and know you’re screwing Seto…no.’ Yugi thought to himself pausing at the stairs. “No, nothing was wrong.” Yugi lied.

“If I can tell you the truth than you can as well aibou.” Yami said pursuing more conversation. Yugi sat on the stairs and Yami entered the small hallway. “You’re really bothered by the fact that I wasn’t here.”

“Of course I was.” Yugi snapped, Yami was such an idiot, and maybe he was one too for loving him. “Why wouldn’t I worry?” Yugi asked, trying to interrogate Yami futher with the look in his eye. Yami said nothing. An uncomfortable silence had fallen between them and Yugi stood once more. “I’m going to bed, so I’m rested enough to duel you tomorrow.”

“Yugi wait…” Yami said reaching out for his light but Yugi flinched away.

“You don’t get it do you.” Yugi said heartbroken, Yami looked confused. “When you’re gone…” Yugi stopped abruptly and his eyes shut tight. “I’m such an idiot.” Yugi sobbed and ran to his room ignoring Yami, and he did so for the rest of the night. Picking up his phone be dialed a number and tried to control his sobs.

‘Hello.’ Answered a tired Joey.

“Jo-.”

‘Yug, what’s wrong man?’

“I don’t want him to leave.” Yugi finally admitted. “I can’t stand the fact I’m going to lose him tomorrow.”

‘Have ya told him this Yug?’ Yugi went quiet not wanting to state the fact that he didn’t. ‘How is he supposed to know anything if ya don’t tell ‘im?’

“Come on Joey, how the hell could you have figured out I loved him and not him himself?” Yugi asked angrily wanting to punch his wall.

‘Some people just don’t realize it ya know, you can try really hard ta make them notice ya, and they don’t. You have to tell him in your own words Yug.’ Joey said a sad note in his voice.

“Yeah…” Yugi whispered.

Yami felt his body. Or at least he thought he did. He was sure that he was truly still in the Gameshop in his room, asleep on his bed. But the feelings of warmth and tenderness around him, felt more like reality than anything else. It was almost as if he was standing in the desert again, with the hot sands beneath his feet. Finally opening his eyes he stepped back in shock as the desert blazed across his vision. “What’s the matter Atemu?” Gasping he quickly faced his Seth.

“Seth…” Running into Seth’s arms Yami cried hard. “I’ve been waiting so long.”

“So have I, and now I have you almost within my reach.” Seth said gently. Feeling a harsh pain flare through his body the image of being with his lover in the desert ripped to pieces. It was black all around him and he heard faint footsteps.

“Seth!” He called but to no avail. He couldn’t sense his ancient lover anywhere. The sound of footfalls grew louder. Looking down towards his body he saw nothing. Reaching out he felt...nothing. “Seth!” He tried again but still nothing happened.

“Are you afraid, Pharaoh?” Shivering at the tone of the familiar voice Yami looked around into the pitch darkness.

“Where have you taken me?” Yami demanded. He could hear the sound of ripping and the chilling shrieks of someone in pain.

“Do you recognize that voice, Pharaoh?” Asked the voice, close to his ear. Jumping back Yami looked around frantically.

“As usual you cower behind your shadows, Thief.” Yami growled angrily his heart racing madly in his chest. Bakura’s hand ripped through the darkness and Yami found himself forced back into something hard.

“Do you remember how you died yet?”

Yami’s eyes widened and Bakura smirked.

“Answer me, Pharaoh, do you remember what happened when you died? Do you remember what he did?” Bakura demanded his hand digging deep into Yami’s chest, and clutched his beating heart. “No pain Pharaoh, I guess that day was still your worst.”

A light blared all around them and Yami woke up smacking his forehead against Yugi’s. Groans of pain came from both as they rubbed their bruised heads. “What the…Are you okay Yami? I tried to wake you I don’t know how many times but you just wouldn’t wake up.” Yugi asked concerned.

Yami, still in shock, looked at his chest. There was no evidence of injury and he sighed in relief.

“Yami?”

“I’m alright,” answered Yami after a while. “Just a bad dream.”

“If you’re sure, anyway, we’re leaving in half an hour…so get ready.” And with that Yugi left. Something was wrong, and if Yami wasn’t going to share, Yugi wasn’t going to intrude.

‘Do I really want to remember?’ Yami asked himself suddenly scared. He didn’t really remember the events surrounding his death yet. It was like a fog enshrouded the memory, almost as if his own mind didn’t want him to remember. He had a dreadful feeling about it, and Bakura’s little intrusion was not something he could ignore.

“Yami hurry up!” Yugi snapped from the kitchen.

Managing to get himself out of bed, Yami got himself ready. It was going to be a hard day.

Depending on when I get the next two chapters written I'll probably get back to my previous schedule of posting them on Sunday. So it won't be this Sunday but next Sunday if I don't get two more chapters done.

Alrighty I'm done blabbing, sorry for any mistakes it's un-betaed. I may get one just so everyone had a smoother time reading and I don't look like an idiot. Have a good weekend, and thanks for the review! I highly appreciate it!
