Dragonlady222: ^-^ glad you liked it~
Redconvoy: Thanks, and I know about my spelling. The chapter is currently with my beta reader, but I posted the un-beta read version. I normally post a warning at the beginning letting everyone know that the chapter has yet to be fixed.
Right_read_time: ^-^ thanks. I will continue it. And I am continuing my other fanfic; I just have to force myself past the writer's block.
Catti: Thankies~ I've been reading yugioh fanfics for a long time. So I have a certain way I see Yami and I try to portray that as best I can.
Shamise: ^-^ Don't worry I will be writing more on it. This is the fanfic I work on while I'm on my lunch hour at work. And I can get quite a bit written if I find a quiet corner to sit in and just start writing.
Endless Dream
By Yami Kitsune
Chapter two
Yami was lying on his bed staring up at the ceiling. He had just gotten of the phone with Marik and Bakura. He hadn't really been in the mood to talk to anyone. But when the phone rings at least fifteen times in half an hour anyone would get annoyed and answer it. They had both then proceeded to lecture him about leaving school and not telling them. Not that that really mattered, they both wound up skipping anyway. It had taken nearly twenty minutes to get out of them the reason they had been calling. It was then that Yami found out the condition Marik and Bakura had found Yugi in.
"He was alright when I left. A little shaken up..."
"That was far from a 'little shaken up' Yami!" Marik had snapped at him.
"Really, what did you do to the kid?" Bakura had asked.
"Whatever happened to him it wasn't me. I think you can lay the blame on Keith." Yami growled and had intended to hang up then.
"Then explain the reaction we got when we asked if he had seen you in the bathroom? The brat seemed almost terrified."
Yami had refused to answer that and had hung up the phone. He glanced over at his clock, sighing as he sat up and headed down stairs. He knew the two of them would be showing up soon. Unless Ryou somehow managed to rope them into actually doing their homework; or as Bakura liked to put it, 'pretending' to do their homework.
Sure enough, Yami hadn't even reached the bottom of the stairs when he heard the doorbell. "I got it!" He called to his mom who was in the kitchen as he jumped the last two stairs and hurried to the door.
"Why you two even bother ring-" Yami stopped mid sentence as he opened the door and stared at none other then Keith. Yami moved to slam the door in his face but was stopped when Keith put his foot in the way. "Go away before I break your foot." Yami growled glaring up at him, his red eyes flashing dangerously. Keith just smirked at him.
"What? Can't I come over to say hello any more?" He asked.
"Not without wanting something." Yami opened the door a bit more before slamming it shut as hard as he could on Keith's foot. Keith yelped and stumbled back looking ready to break the door down when he felt someone grab him from behind.
"Hey Yami." Bakura said grinning as he stepped around Keith, letting the blond know that it must be Marik holding him.
"Hey." Yami said as he closed the door behind him as he stepped outside.
"We come over to yell at you for hanging up on us and found a rat trying to get into the house." Bakura said turning his gaze back to Keith and pulled out what appeared to be a new knife. Yami knew it had to be a new one because he had lost his first one to the teacher, then his second one Ryou had confiscated.
"Let him go." Yami said. "He's not worth our time."
Marik and Bakura looked at each other, Bakura looking slightly disappointed and Marik just looking confused, but letting Keith go all the same. The blond boy fixed his shirt, and turning without a word he walked away grumbling to himself. Marik knew how much Keith wanted to land just ONE good punch on each of them. But had learned the hard way that even attempting that was not a smart idea.
"Mom's making dinner." Yami said turning to go back inside. The other two followed closing the door behind them.
"Yami-dear, who was at the door?"
"Marik and Bakura." Yami answered his mother as he headed to the kitchen, letting his two friends take their shoes off and follow him.
"Oh! I wish you would tell me when you're having friends over." She half scolded. "I would have just ordered you guys a pizza!" She smiled at the three. Marik grinned.
"What? And miss out on your cooking?" He asked with a grin. Bakura rolled his eyes as did Yami. Marik was such a suck up to Yami's mother. But what he said about her cooking was true, especially if you had ever tasted Marik's sister's cooking.
"Well, there should be plenty." Yami's mother said as she set out two more places at the table. "Dinner will be ready in half an hour. I'll call you when it's done." Nodding the three boys headed up to Yami's room.
"I'll never understand how your mother can stand having us over." Bakura said taking the steps two at a time.
"Please, mom's always going on about how you two are the kids she never had." Yami said as they went into his room and sat in their normal spots. Marik sitting on the desk using the chair as a foot rest, Yami on the bed, and Bakura on the windowsill. They sat in silence for a few moments before Yami spoke up.
"So was he really that bad?" Yami asked not looking at either of his friends.
"Remember how you were after we found you after Keith..." Marik trailed off as Yami fixed him with a piercing glare. "That time we found you." He tried re-wording but it was already too late.
"I'd rather try and FORGET that thank you." Yami growled.
"It was only an example. Anyway. He was kinda like that."
"And because of how he reacted when you mentioned me you automatically assumed that I was the one that did something to him!"
"No." Marik and Bakura said in unison.
"But we both know how you can get when you loose your temper. Especially if Keith is involved at all." Marik said watching Yami carefully.
"Hn." Yami laid down and stared at the ceiling. "I didn't do anything to the new kid." Yami said. "I saw Keith in the bathroom with him. So I told Keith to knock it off. We didn't even fight." Yami growled slightly. "I was so pathetic. I was more pissed at myself." Yami said.
"I could see why. I mean if Keith was right there and you didn't even punch him." Bakura shrugged. "That is kind of pathetic." Bakura yelped when he found a pillow airborne at his head. He dodged and it hit the window instead.
"You know one of these times you're going to do that and I'll move fast enough and you'll send the pillow flying out the window."
"Then I'll make you get off your lazy ass and go get it. You're not supposed to be a moving target."
"You're just pissed because you can never hit me any-AH!" Bakura yelped when this time a pillow DID hit him in the face. Marik laughed as Bakura fell off the window sill. Glaring Bakura threw the pillow at Marik who caught it.
"Hey! I'm in the safe zone!" Marik protested. "You don't want to break Yami's lamp again do you?" Marik asked tossing the pillow back to Yami.
"Tarter! Don't give him more ammo!" Bakura yelled moving quickly to avoid getting another pillow thrown at him. Yami sat up on his bed and put the pillow back where it belonged before leaning across the bed to grab the one that had fallen on the floor by the window.
"So you think Keith is going to target Yugi now?" Marik asked, making Yami freeze where he was. That thought obviously had not crossed his mind.
"...it's none of my business." Yami said slowly sitting back up with the second pillow and put it back where it belonged.
"You know what Keith is capable of. You're the one who wanted to handle it on your own instead of going to the police. And the only reason we didn't go to the police is because YOU asked us not to." Marik said glaring at Yami.
"Mind your own business Marik." Yami snapped.
"He has a point Yami." Bakura said.
Bakura never liked getting in the middle when Marik and Yami started on this discussion. Bakura agreed with Marik that Yami should have gone to the police when it happened, but he also agreed with Yami that it really wasn't any of their business what Yami decided to do. Yes they were friends, but Bakura was never one to force someone to do what they didn't want to do.
"Whether it's because he's the new kid, or he looks like you. If you saw him with Keith today then it's a good chance that the new kid is his next target." Bakura pointed out.
"And like I said, it's none of my business." Yami said clenching his fists.
"Yami, you've changed." Bakura said shaking his head.
Yami visibly tensed at this. And now it was Marik's turn to stay quiet. They had all seen it, after Keith's attack on Yami the other teen had grown distant. Maybe the others hadn't noticed, but Yami, Marik and Bakura had all grown up together. And what went unnoticed by other people the other two always caught.
"You really are turning into a major ass. And frankly, I don't like competing with you for that title."
"Well, someone had to pick up the title after you went all soft. People change, you and Marik are proof of that." Yami said. "When was the last time you went out and picked a fight with someone just for the hell of it? You started dating Ryou and you changed. Marik has Malik and he's changed too. So what? I'm supposed to stay the same?"
"People do change." Bakura growled. "But you are turning into a bigger ass then I ever was. At least I wouldn't leave someone to be fucking raped and shrug it off saying it's not my business!"
The fist came out of no where so fast that Bakura didn't even have time to react. The next thing he knew he was laying on the floor with a busted lip, Marik was holding a struggling Yami.
"Don't you dare! DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE ACCUSE ME OF THAT!!!" Yami screamed.
"What do you think is going to happen!?" Bakura yelled back, making Yami stop struggling. "You think just because you told Keith to back off that he's going to leave the kid alone? You were with Keith for nearly a year, you know him better then any of us. So if you think that he will just leave him alone then fine," Bakura got to his feet staring at Yami. "If I am wrong, then go ahead and hit me again." Bakura said watching Yami carefully.
Marik slowly released Yami watching his two friends. It had been a long time since he saw the two of them fight. And it was something he would never get used to. Yami sighed lowering his head, his fists were still clenched but he made no move to swing at Bakura. Bakura didn't say anything else as he put a hand on Yami's shoulder.
"We'll keep an eye on Keith." Bakura said.
"And if he tries anything this time we'll make sure he gets locked up." Marik added.
Yami nodded taking a deep breath and calming down. It was at that time that Yami's mother called them down for dinner. The three boys didn't say anything as they left the bedroom and headed downstairs to eat.
----------
Yugi was in his bedroom doing his homework as he reached into the bag for another potato chip. Solomon had ordered takeout and it was still going to be another twenty minutes before it got there. So Yugi was munching on chips to tide him over until dinner. Not something he normally did, but he hadn't gotten to eat much at lunch. He looked up when there was a knock on the door.
"Yugi." Solomon's voice came thought the door. "There's someone here to see you." Yugi blinked confused by that. Pushing away from his desk he went over to the door and opened it. He looked out at his grandfather and then to the person standing behind him.
"...Oh...hi Keith." Yugi said softly and opened the door more.
"Dinner should be here soon Yugi. Keith, thank you for coming over. You're welcome to stay for dinner." Solomon said. Keith smiled politely at him.
"Thanks gramps." Keith said and watched Solomon leave closing the door behind him. Keith turned and smiled at Yugi.
"You know, I was surprised to see you at school today. You could have called and let me know you were going to be living here with gramps. If you had called you could have lived with my mum and me." Keith said making himself comfortable on Yugi's bed.
Yugi slowly sat back down at his desk.
"You really hurt me today..." Yugi said softly rubbing his arm where Keith had grabbed him. The blond boy snorted.
"You're still such a baby. Really are you ever going to grow up? Didn't dad teach you anything? Oh that's right. Your slut of a mother kept getting in the way." Keith said making it sound like he had just remembered.
"...Don't call my mother a slut..." Yugi said his voice trembling.
"What? That's what she was."
"...They were married..."
"Just because someone is married little Yugi, doesn't mean they're not a slut." Keith pointed out. "Really, that's why dad and my mom hooked up. Because your mom didn't know how to keep her legs closed. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if we weren't really brothers." Keith said grinning.
"We're NOT brothers." Yugi turned away.
Keith rolled his eyes. "Fine, half brothers if you want to get technical. We have the same father."
"That man is not my father..."
"Aww, he'd be so disappointed to hear you say that. I don't know why he just didn't drown you. You're a useless, pathetic little wimp. He was really disappointed you didn't visit him while he was in jail."
"...I never want to see him again..." Yugi was shaking all over again.
And Keith was enjoying tormenting his younger half brother. There were only a handful of people that actually knew that Keith and Yugi were half brothers. The two boys had met for the first time on a camping trip with their father. The two boys had not gotten along at all. Keith didn't like Yugi because he was to small and couldn't do anything, and Yugi didn't like Keith because their father had treated him more like a son then he had ever done with Yugi.
The other people knowing about the relation between the two boys was obviously Yugi's grandfather. Who had found out by accident when Yugi had been there to visit and Keith had come into the shop to buy a new game that had just come out. But by that time Keith had picked up their fathers talent for 'acting'. Keith could act as if he and Yugi were best friends, and he could act like the perfect brother. But it was all just a lie. Keith was too much like their father. //...I should be glad that father never liked me...maybe I'd end up being like that too...//
"He wants to see you though." Keith whispered. It was only then that Yugi realized that Keith was now right behind him. His whole body tensed and he stayed as still as possible.
"...I-I...I d-don't..c-c-ca-are..." Yugi stuttered out his breathing coming in short gasps. Keith chuckled.
"You know, I think father was wrong about you." Keith whispered, Yugi could feel his hot breath on his neck. "You might actually be good for something. You're very...obedient."
Before Yugi could ask what he meant by that he felt a hand moving up his side lifting his shirt as it did. Keith laughed as he watched Yugi practically throw himself out of the chair and land on the floor in his haste to get away. He stared at Keith with wide eyes.
Keith stepped forward and kneeled down in front of him. He reached a hand out and gently wiped away a tear was rolling down Yugi's cheek. "Father never appreciated you. He never saw your full potential. When he gets home, maybe he'll be more willing to listen. And with the lawyer he was able to get, it'll be only a matter of time before he can get full custody of you again." Yugi backed away from Keith quickly.
"...father...father....h-home...?" Was all Yugi was able to get out panic taking hold of him again.
Keith sat there watching with a small smile on his face. But knowing he couldn't leave Yugi like this for long other wise it would ruin anything he waited a few moments before shouting. "YUGI!!!" He scooped the boy up and hurried out the room.
"Gramps!" He called, hurrying to the living room where Solomon was. The old man was on his feet instantly when he saw Keith carrying Yugi.
"This is the second time today!" Solomon said as Keith out Yugi on the couch. He got the medication that the doctor had prescribed to help calm Yugi down in case this happened. He helped Yugi take it before looking at Keith. "What happened?"
"We were just talking." Keith said. "And I mentioned that father got out of jail..." Solomon swore and looked at Yugi again. Keith rubbed Yugi's back gently. "Sorry gramps, I thought he knew already."
"No, I just got the notice today in the mail. And hadn't been able to bring it up to him yet."
"Sorry." Keith said again. Solomon shook his head.
"You couldn't have known." The old man reassured him. Keith nodded.
"I think I'll take a rain check on dinner. Maybe Yugi should skip school tomorrow, stay home and rest." Keith suggested. Solomon nodded.
"That's a good idea."
"I'll bring his school stuff by tomorrow so he doesn't fall behind."
"Thank you Keith, you're a good kid." Solomon said and watched the blond boy leave.
Yugi curled up on the couch still shaking, but breathing normally now. Solomon watched Yugi feeling as if his heart was breaking. He didn't know what to do for him. He was really beginning to wonder if he had taken him out of the hospital too soon.
"My poor Yugi." Solomon sighed watching the small teen boy and prayed to whatever gods might be listening that there was someone out there that could help Yugi, help him, and show him what it was like to be a normal teenager for once in his life.
