Joey and the others arrived back at the city that was underground before dawn had hit. Joey told the others that they should met up later and get some much needed sleep. Marik had stayed above ground since he wasn’t aloud inside the city. Joey had explained how Marik had saved Serenity, but the guard wouldn’t let him in. Marik told Joey that he would just stay topside and guard the entrance incase anymore vampires came looking for his sister.

Joey had returned home with Serenity and placed her on her bed in her room. Yugi and Yami returned home as well to eat and get some sleep. Since Tristan and Duke were roommates, they headed on home as well. Ryou and Bakura headed home to sleep as well. Seto decided that he would be the one to report into the chief and give a report on what happened.

Marik was sitting on one of the highest ruined building that he could find that was close to the humans’ underground city. He knew that the sun would be raising so, but it wouldn’t do a thing to him. Since he was one of the oldest vampires, he was able to be in the sunlight again. He could do a number of other stuff as well. If he had wanted to, he could have controlled the guard that was guarding the entrance to make him let him in.

But he didn’t want to give a bad impression. Joey had told him before he left that he would talk with the chief to see if they would let him in since he had saved his sister. He thanked him and waited on the surface for nightfall to come.

‘This should be interesting. I’ve been asleep for over five thousands years and the world is controlled by vampires.’ Marik sighed and lay on what was left of the rooftop. ‘Could it be him?’ Marik sat up and decided that he would have to look into the matter. He jumped down from the rooftop and decided to go exploring for a while.

Serenity began to stir in her bed and sat up. That last thing she remembered was that vampire Marik. He ran one of the vampires through the chest with his hand and had shot the other. She had hit the ground and passed out. Since she was back at home, safe in her room, then that meant that Joey and the others had found her.

She blushed when she remember the kiss that was given to her buy the undead being that had saved her. She threw the covers off her body and walked out into the hallway. It was empty like always. Ever since she was a little girl her parents had joined the military to help stop the vampires. They were still alive and well, but they were rarely home. She was twenty now, but since most people didn’t leave their parents anymore, both her and Joey had decided to stay with them.

They lived in a mansion in one of the most beautiful placed in the underground city. There were large fields all around the house, and a lake the forest. The entire city looked as if it was on the surface. But in reality, they were miles underground in what appeared to be a large geofront.

When the vampires had started to destroy cities and the humans, the survivors had moved on. But with no place to go, they didn’t have much of a choice in the matter. It luck that the humans had found this place. But even then, the city had been there. Like it had been built for them. Like someone, or something was watching over them. That was almost five thousand years ago now. Ever since then, humans had been able to live in peace, and defend themselves when the timed called for it.

But that was slowly changing. A new bread of vampire had risen from the ashes of the old world and attacked the peaceful geofront. It was then that the Vampire Hunters’ corp. had been created. People were trained to find vampires and found new ways to battle this new bread of vampire.

Serenity sighed as she continued to remember all that she had learned in school. The history of what had happened to the human race, and why the vampires had taken over. She had been told that all vampires were evil and would kill you on sight, or turn you into one if you were still a virgin. But from what she saw last night, she didn’t believe that anymore.

She walked down the hallways of the mansion and outside into the felids of green grass. She decided that maybe she should find Joey and ask him where Marik was. She wanted to thank for him saving her life.

It was an hour later when Serenity found herself at the doors to the Hunters headquarters. Since she was a hunter herself, she was able to come and go as she pleased. That and the fact that her parents were the current leaders of the hunters. Joey was next in line and if he died, she would have to take over for him.

“Hey Seto,” she called to the tall brown haired man. Seto turned to see Serenity walk up to him.

“Oh, hey Serenity. Looking for that knuckleheaded brother of yours right?” he asked as he stopped what he was doing.

“Yeah I am. Do you know where he is right now?”

“He’s in a meeting with the chief right now. He wants that vampire Marik to be able to get into the city. I agree with him, but…” Seto paused for a moment.

“But what?”

“Would it be a good idea to let an ancient vampire into the city?” Serenity shrugged her shoulders.

“I couldn’t tell you Seto. To tell you the truth, I’m not sure either.” Serenity blushed slightly when she once again remembered the kiss she received from Marik on their first meeting. Seto noticed this and chuckled to himself.

“Are you falling for a vampire little Serenity?” Her blushed turned three or four shades darker and she glared at him.

“I am not falling for him you jerk. How could you say something like that?” Seto could only laugh at her outburst.

“It was just a question. No need to get all worked up about it,” he teased her. She punched him in the arm and turned and walked down the hallway to the chiefs’ office.

“But it would be a good idea to let him in. He saved her dad. Why can’t you accept the fact that not all vampires are evil?” yelled Joey as he stood before his father.

“It’s because he is a vampire. No human here will accept a vampire in our society. And what would happen if he isn’t really trying to help us? What he is one of the vampires that’s wants Serenity to be his mate? No. I can’t allow it. I’m sorry Joey, but my decision is final,” said his father.

“This is bullshit and you know it. Ever since Serenity was born you’ve been protecting her way to much. So what if she is the one that will save us or the one that would destroy us? I believe that Marik isn’t an evil vampire if he had been, he would have taken Serenity and fled,” he argued back.

“Dam it Joey listen to me,” his father yelled as he slammed his fists on the desk. “I will not allow me daughter to be with something as vile and as evil as a vampire. I don’t care if she is the one who will save us, I won’t allow it to happen.”

Joey had always back down when his father got angry, but he couldn’t this time. He needed to defend both Marik and Serenity from this. Marik was not an evil vampire, he could tell he wasn’t. And Serenity had always been protected from anything all her life. She had been able to go anywhere without someone following her. All because of the stupid birthmark below her right breast. It was a birthmark, but not just any birthmark.

It was the mark of the one would save their world, or destroy it. And Joey wasn’t going to stand for it any longer. He wanted his little sister to have some kind of a normal life.

“Is there any way that Marik can prove to you that he isn’t evil dad?” Joey’s father looked at him with amazement. Never in all the years had his son stood up to him after he got angry. He was proud of his son more than ever. But he wouldn’t let it show yet.

“I would like to meet with him then. If he can do this same assignment I have for him, then maybe I will consider it Joey.” Joey was smiling ear to ear at his fathers answer.

“Alright dad. I’ll see what I can do.” With that said, he left the office.

“I just hope that you’re right my son. If we lose Serenity to an evil vampire, all is last for our race.”

Marik had fallen asleep a few hours ago and was still asleep when night came. He hadn’t had any blood for over five thousand years, and he was weak. His fight last night with the three vampires had drained him of the energy that Serenity’s blood had given him. If he was going to protect her and the rest of the humans, he needed blood.

He opened his eyes after a few more hours and found that it was already the dead of night. He felt refreshed, but not at full power. He needed blood, but he wasn’t going to feed on humans. Since he was an ancient, he was able to feed off of vampires as well as humans. Vampires didn’t give what he needed, but they would have to do for now.

Marik stood up and headed for the entrance to the underground city and found that Joey was there waiting for him.

“It’s about time you woke up,” he said as Marik stopped in front of him. “I’ve arranged for you to meet my father. If you do something for him, he might let you into the city if he finds that you’re not evil.” Marik smiled and walked with Joey to the elevator that led to the geofront.

“I thank you for this Joey,” Marik answered once they were in the elevator. When the two reached the bottom, they exited the elevator and headed towards the Hunters base. Joey noticed that Marik was looking around like he knew the place. But how was that possible?

“Hey Marik,” Joey started to ask him while they continued to walk. “Have you been here before?”

“yes Joey I have been. But that was a very long time ago now.” Joey nodded his head and was content with the answer he was given. It wasn’t along until the two arrived at the base. Joey took the vampire to see his father like he said he would do. When the two arrived, they saw that Serenity was there.

“Oh hey Joey,” she said as she stood up and walked over to him.

“Glad you’re feeling better sis,” he replied. Joey went to go and sit down while Marik and Serenity stared at one another. Their father was watching for any kind of sign that Marik might hurt her.
“Um…thanks for saving me last night,” she said as she walked past him. She hoped that he hadn’t seen the blush that was on her face now. Marik chuckled and sat down next to Joey.

“So, you are the vampire who saved me daughter.”

“Yes. My name is Marik Ishtar,” he answered the man behind the desk.

“And my name is Murdock Wheeler,” was his reply to the vampire. “Now that we have that out of the way, I would like to ask a favor of you.” Marik leaned on his chair and it told Murdock that he had his attention. “Alright then. I’ll take that as a yes.”

“Several days ago we lost contact with one of our outposts on the surface. We believe that it was a large ground of vampires that attacked them. We have reason to believe that they might still be alive. Since I can’t send any of my men to that outpost, I want you to take care of it and save our men. If you do this for us, I will let you into our city.”

Marik smiled and nodded his head in agreement. This would solve his problem of needing to feed. Since there was a large ground of vampires there, he would be able to regain whatever power they held in their low level bodies, and regain his lost strength from his long slumber. But if he wanted to be at full power once again, he would have to feed on human blood. And he had already decided not to do so.

“Alright then. I’ll take care of this little problem for you Murdock,” he said as he walked out of the room.

“I hope that I’ve done the right thing Joey.”

“You did dad. I know Marik will help us. I can already tell he’s falling for Serenity, and she might be falling for him. Guess we’ll have to wait and see won’t he?” His father nodded in agreement.

Marik vanished into a dark portal as soon as he had left the office. He had sensed that a great number of undead lives and humans lives had been coming from somewhere up north. Since he didn’t need to use any kind of vehicle of any kind, he used his dark powers to get there faster.

Now that he was closer, he could sense were a very large number of vampires in the large building before him. And he couldn’t smell any human blood either. He figured that none of the humans had been killed, yet. He would have to hurry if he was going to save them.

He smiled an insane smile as he vanished from his spot on a ruined house and into the building before him. He decided that he would take out the vampires first, and then save the humans. He heard footsteps down the hallways and fazed into the walls of the building. He saw that two vampires were dragging a woman no older then Serenity. He concentrated on the woman’s thoughts and picked up a plea for help.

‘Please, not again, I don’t want to.’ This same phrase went through her mind over and over again. Before he decided to save her, he searched her memories. He saw the woman of that were in this building be raped over and over again, and it set his blood on fire. Even though he had once been the most evil and cruel of his kind, he wasn’t about to let some low level vampire became what he once was.

‘Time to have some fun with these impudent fools,’ he thought with a great amount of amusement. He fazed out of the wall and turned into mist. He followed the two vampires and returned to his human form when they went inside a room. He heard the door lock behind them and chuckled darkly. Doors with locks, how simple minded had vampires become since he had gone to sleep?

“No stop it please!” He heard the woman yell through the door. He heard the vampires in the room laugh followed by screams of pain. Marik’s eyes started to glow with unholy light as he punched the door from its hinges and sent it flying in the room. Any kind of movement in the room ceased as Marik stepped into the room, sword drawn, and with an insane smile on his lips.

“Well well well. Look what we have here. Have those pathetic humans finally decide to come and save these humans?” The vampires in the room laughed but stopped when they saw that the vampire that was raping the woman was no more than a pile of dust. Marik had moved so fast that they weren’t able to track his movements. Even with their vampiric scenes, the still hadn’t seen him move.

“What the fuck?” one yelled. They all turned to see that Marik was now standing in front of the woman and protecting her from them.

“he killed the boss. Get him boys,” another yelled. The all rushed at Marik, but they didn’t get very far since Marik used his inhuman speed to slice and dice the vampires up. He left only seven alive since he still needed to feed. They all tried to run, but were unable because Marik was using his vampiric powers to hold them still. He drained the first one of his life and then he turned to he second one. He drained him as well.

When he had drained six of the seven, he stopped before the vampire.

“Who is your master?” he questioned the remaining vampire.

“You already killed him,” was his answer.

“Than whom do you all work for?”

“Why the hell would I tell you that you stupid bitch?”

“Not the answer I was looking for. Now go to hell you low level vampire,” he roared as he sliced off the vampires head with his sword. The vampires turned to dust. Marik put away his sword and turned to the woman that was still in the room. She didn’t have any clothes on, and was trying to cover herself the best she could do. Marik sighed and took off his coat and laid it upon her body.

“I am here to save you and the other humans that are here. Can you take me to them?” The woman nodded her head and stood up. She held his coat to her body as she walked down the hallways and stopped in front of a door.

“It’s locked,” she said to him. he nodded his head and once again thrust his hand into the door and then took it off its hinges instead of sending it flying into the room. The woman rushed into the room and was greeted by the people that were in it.

“This man saved my life,” she explained to them. The leader of the group came up to him after the woman head told them every thing that had happened. They knew he was a vampire, but they didn’t seem afraid. They seemed happy and relieved at the same time because someone had been sent to rescue them.

“We thank you for saving us…uhhh…”

“Marik.”

“Marik. It was Murdock who sent you, am I correct?” Marik nodded his head. “I see. Well, Thank you very much. If you hadn’t have came when you did, my daughter would be dead right now.”

“I understand. But you must contact Murdock and inform him that you are all save and well.” The man nodded his head and turned and left the room with his daughter behind him. Marik followed them to the command room and waited near the door.

‘It has to be him. No other vampire is as hell bent on destroying humans than he is. If it is him, I will destroy him this time. And there is no way in hell that I will let him have Serenity.’
