Chapter Two
Fire & Ice – Chapter Two
The quickly descending plane was blown around by the wind as it plummeted towards the snowy ground below, it’s nose dipping as it began to lose control.
Seto glanced over at his brother and saw that he had his eyes squeezed shut and there were dried tears on his cheeks.
“It’ll be okay Mokuba.” He reassured the terrified child, who could only whimper in response.
There was a screeching sound and a sharp stab of pain and then Seto’s world went black.
---
“Tea? Joey? Are you guys okay?” Tristan asked urgently, blinking the blood out of his eyes.
Joey groaned, “Ah shit, what the hell happened?”
“We crashed. Is Tea okay?”
Joey quickly looked at the still form of the girl sitting between them, “She’s breathing. I think she was just knocked out.”
Tristan nodded and undid his seatbelt, carefully scooting across the aisle to check on their other friends.
“Yugi? Are you okay?”
“I… I’m fine.” He hesitantly opened his eyes and looked around, “Yami?”
“Are you sure you’re okay Aibou.”
“Yeah… What should we do?”
“Excuse me!” A voice called from the rear of the plane, “Please remain calm and exit the plane in an orderly fashion.”
Tea moaned and blinked and grabbed her head as Joey shook her gently, “Stop shaking me Joey. What’s going on?”
“The plane crashed, can you walk?”
“Uh, yeah I think so.”
He helped her up and supported her as she took a few shaky steps down the aisle.
“Oh my God!” She exclaimed suddenly.
“What?” Joey followed her gaze and saw what had shaken her up so much.
In the seat behind theirs was a corpse of a young woman and from the looks of things a heavy metal briefcase had fallen from an overhead compartment and cracked her skull open.
“Come on Tea, there’s nothing you can do.”
---
Mokuba coughed as the air slowly filled with smoke from the cockpit, “Se… to!” He gasped.
Seto didn’t answer, however, because he was unconscious, blood pouring from a large gash in his forehead and his legs crushed under the crumpled metal of the plane.
“SETO!” His little brother tried to wake him up, “Please wake up!”
“The cockpit’s on fire.” A man told him as he hurried by, no doubt heading for the exit, “You’d best get outta here kid.”
Mokuba looked at the smoke pouring into the first class cabin and back at his brother, “I won’t leave you big brother.”
---
“What’s that smoke?” Yugi asked as they limped and staggered away from the plane wreck.
“Looks like the cockpits on fire.” Yami replied.
“The front of the plane’s completely trashed.” Tristan said, “I hope no one’s stuck in there.”
“A lot of the first class passengers can’t get out. The inside of the cabin is destroyed and some of them have been pinned down.” A stranger said, overhearing their conversation.
“We’ve got to help them!” Joey exclaimed.
“No way! That planes gonna go up in flames any minute. Those guys are goners.” The man hurried off.
“I don’t care. We can’t just leave them in there.”
“I agree Joey. Lets go.” Yami added, “Stay here Aibou and look after Tea.”
---
The smoke was becoming thick and Mokuba could see the flames inching closer as he cuddled up to his brothers unmoving body.
“HELP! PLEASE, SOMEBODY HELP US!” He coughed.
“Hello? Who’s there?”
“HELP! OVER HERE!” Mokuba shouted, hearing people moving through the suffocating smoke.
“Mokuba?” The voice called, “Is that you?”
He hesitated when he recognised the voice that was calling to him, “JOEY! SETO’S HURT!”
Joey stumbled over to their seats and knelt down next to Mokuba, “Are you alright kid?”
“I’m fine, Seto’s stuck.”
“Tristan!” Joey called to his friend.
“Did you find someone?”
“Yeah. It’s Kaiba and Mokuba.”
“No way!”
“Get Mokuba outta here. I’ll take care of Kaiba.”
“Sure.”
“NO! I WON’T LEAVE HIM!”
“You have to get outta here Mokuba. I promise I’ll get Kaiba outta here too but right now you’ve got to leave.”
“Come on kid.” Tristan gently grabbed his arm and pulled him away.
“Promise you’ll get him out.” Mokuba said as he left.
“I promise Mokuba.”
---
Everything was dark and Seto couldn’t breath.
‘What’s going on?’ He thought.
“Hey Kaiba. Wake up.” Someone said.
‘Who’s that? Where’s Mokuba?’ Seto’s thought became frantic when he remembered what had happened and found that he couldn’t move.
“This is gonna hurt Kaiba.” The voice said.
Seto mentally screamed as pain shot up his legs, making them feel as if they were on fire, then he slipped back into unconciousness.
---
“That’s gotta hurt.” Joey said worriedly as he gently picked Seto up and headed out of the plane.
‘You’re gonna make it Kaiba. There’s no way I’m gonna let ya die before I get to tell you how I feel.’
“JOEY!” Mokuba shouted, “Is he okay?”
“He’s alive, but pretty banged up.”
“Is he going to die?” Tears fell from Mokuba’s eyes as Joey lay Seto down in the snow.
“I hope not.”
“Here, give him my jacket.” Yugi said, offering the warm garment to Joey.
Joey gently placed the jacket over Seto before surveying his injuries. His legs were more than likely broken and had been ripped to shreds right up to his waist, but luckily the gash on his head had stopped bleeding and wasn’t that deep.
“What are we supposed to do for him?”
“I don’t know. It’s probably best not to do anything until someone finds us.”
“Are you folks okay?” A middle-aged woman came over carrying a small first aid kit and some blankets.
“We’re fine. Our friend is hurt pretty badly though.” Joey said.
“Geez, That’s pretty bad. All I can give ya are these pain killers and a few blankets.”
“Will he be okay?” Mokuba asked.
“Weeeell… If he gets outta here soon then he’s got a chance.”
He looked up at the dark, angry looking sky, “When are we going to get rescued?”
“When the storm clears up honey.” She said kindly, “You should all stay put until then, try and keep warm.”
Joey looked at Seto, his eyes filled with sadness at the sight. Before he even realised what he was doing he lay down next to the taller boy and curled up next to him, trying to keep him warm.
“That’s the right idea, use each others body warmth to keep the cold at bay.” She smiled warmly and headed off towards another group.
“Are you feeling okay Joey?”
He ignored the question and softly brushed Seto’s hair off his face, marvelling at how soft it was. Ever since he’d first seen the brunet he’d felt drawn to him, although he’d only recently figured out what his feelings were. All the fights, the nasty words, he was only trying to get Seto’s attention, deciding that to be hated by his love was better than to be ignored. It was silly really, to be so fixated on someone he had absolutely no chance with, but by the time he realised it was too late. He was deeply and irrevocably in love with Seto Kaiba.
---
AN; I dunno if I’m gonna kill anyone off. What do you guys think?
