Five, six, seven seconds after six o’ clock was when Haga reached the Optometrists office. He talked quietly to the receptionist, picked up his glasses and walked outside into the cooling blood red haze of s setting day. He put them on, blinking slowly as if seeing for the first time. The black, rectangular frames sat cool on his face in the lingering humidity, new nose guards pressing at him, trying to adjust to him and not the other way around. He pulled his prescription off the back and shoved it in his pocket, discarding the bag. He adjusted his grey messenger back and headed down the street.
It was time to get to work.
Luckily for him, his work environment was rather dark, in both senses of the word. No one would really notice the stiff way he walked or the swelling of his cheek as he went over to his station. He put down his bag, slipped on a white lab coat and shuffled into the back, where the samples lay.
It was cold in there. It always was. He went over to drawer number seven and pulled it out, a weak grin gracing his lips.
“Well Mr. Murazaki…lets see what your small companions can tell us…”
Haga checked the toe tag and picked up the small Petri dish of bugs that had been found on the body when they’d found it. As an assistant morgue technician with an amateurs back round in entomology, he’d been hired by the crime lab as a low cost way to replace the people they couldn’t hire because of budget concerns and back round checks. At first, he’d been revolted by having to see the dead day in and day out, but he soon grew used to it. The hours were to his liking and when there were no bugs to dissect or identify, he had plenty of time to finish his homework.
He went back to his desk and put on gloves, taking up tweezers and a microfying glass, sighing as one of his co-workers turned on a random talk radio station.
It was going to be a long night.
At fifteen to ten, Haga put away the gloves and tweezers, removed his lab coat and put his identification card in his pocket. He grabbed up his bag, full of completed homework and left the crime lab without a goodbye to anyone. They were all quiet like that so there was no chance of anyone really being offended.
He walked the lamp lighted streets, wondering briefly if he should stop to eat out, or try and cook what was in his cabinets. He didn’t have time to make a decision as a voice stopped him in his tracks.
“How are you Baby?”
Haga stared at the ground, not sure if he should answer. Why hadn’t he noticed them? He’d been too busy looking at the ground and when a cool hand came to caress his neck, he shuddered involuntarily.
“You didn’t answer me Haga.” The neon aqua haired boy kissed his forehead and purred nothings into his ear. “You’ve been ignoring me at school again.”
“Go away Espa. Go…go find Mokuba or something. Isn’t that who you’re into lately?”
“Aw…” the boy chuckled and cupped Haga’s chin. “That hurts. I ended that sometime ago!”
Haga frowned and pushed Espa’s hand away. “When was that? When Seto kicked your ass for messing around with his little brother?”
The green haired boy smirked as Espa flinched. He’d obviously hit a nerve. He shook his head and walked past the other youth without a second glance. Espa caught up and took Haga’s wrist.
“How can you treat me this way? You know I love you.”
The boy frowned and pushed up his glasses. “I’m sure you do. You just want to have sex with everyone else and be with everyone else.”
The carni gave Haga a chaste kiss on the lips, smirking. “It isn’t my fault this is as far as you’ll go. A boy has needs…” he ran his hands down Haga’s chest and whispered in his ear. “Look, I’m just short right now. Can I have just a little?”
The Insector pushed him away, furious. “Is that why you’ve sought me out again?! For money!? So I can give you my hard earned money so you can blow it on a random whore?!”
Espa crossed his bare arms. The boy was dressed in black shorts and a sleeveless polo shirt. “Look Haga, I don’t have any illusions between us. Neither should you.”
Haga frowned and dug out his wallet. He threw bills on the ground and glared at Espa. “I don’t ever want to see you again!”
Espa took Haga’s chin in his hand and gave him a long sweet kiss, worming his tongue in the boy’s mouth. Being on a public city street didn’t stop Espa from grinding into him and moaning.
“Pick it up…” he breathed.
Haga closed his eyes and shook his head. “This is over! Understand!”
“Shut up and do it…” Espa ran his hand in Haga’s hair. “I love these new glasses…”
The mint haired boy picked the bills up and gave them to Espa, scowling.
“You refuse to give me sex, but you will give me something. I’ll see you around Fish Bait.”
Espa pushed his out of the way and continued down the street. Haga gripped the strap of his messenger bag, fighting tears.
Every time! Every fucking time and I always try to say no and it just doesn’t happen! He began running and didn’t stop until he reached his apartment.
He was crying.

Ryuzaki was on his back, trying to feel it. He really was, but as the girl rocked back and forth on him in wanton ecstasy, he could only take a drag on his cigarette and tap it out. The girl began to moan and his body played along, his sac tightening until he let go and cursed, glad he had on a condom.
Gigi, Kiki, Sugar, Candy, or whatever her name was got off of him, tossing the green wig into her bag. He sat up and gave her the money. She giggled and stuffed it into her bra.
“You know, a boy like you should have a girlfriend his own age!”
The indigo banged brunette laughed and lit another cigarette. “Nah, I like whores!”
The woman sighed and put her top back on. “Whatever you say! But you’re real cute and I’m sure the girls would go crazy over you.”
Ryuzaki waved her away, locking all his door locks when she was gone.
Yeah right bitch. The girls at school don’t give me a second glance and if they knew what I really was they wouldn’t give me a first. He plopped down on his couch and turned on the tv, rubbing his crotch as the flipped through the channels.
What I need I can’t seem to get my hands on… He began to fondle himself as images of the school’s top soccer player flirted into his mind. Ryuzaki grinned crookedly and began to manipulate himself, briefly wondering why he wasted his money on whores when this gave him so much satisfaction, even if it wasn’t the real deal.
After he came, he changed his boxers and washed his hands, looking in the fridge and cursing. He grabbed the phone and dialed a number. Ordering in sounded good.
Back when he was Japan’s second ranked, no, back when he was Champion, he could’ve been having dinners with important people, making endorsement deals. People would have been throwing themselves at him in those days, but now…
He rattled off his order to the Chinese place and put the receiver back. He rubbed his belly and took a drag on his cigarette. He was just a mid-level juvenile delinquent who didn’t know how to turn in his homework or get laid.
“Eh…” He sat back in front of the tv and turned it on to cartoons. “Huh…anime’s on…”
****
Haga lay in bed, staring at the ceiling. He wondered if it would always be this way. If people like Espa would always use him like this.
He knew trusting the boy was a mistake, but he’d really thought he was in love or had a crush or something. Then, when he learned Espa was running around on the side because he wouldn’t put out, it crushed him. He’d told Espa it was over that he wasn’t going to be used. But he was promptly told it was only the beginning and that he wouldn’t let the boy go with out a fight. So instead, he’d just begun giving Espa what he needed outside of sex, which mainly consisted of money and a place to crash when he was too drunk to go home and face a lecture from his mother and the sad eyes of his siblings.
It was all a mistake but he was trapped like a bug in a jar.
Haga took off his new glasses and stared at the pattern the incoming light made on the walls and ceiling.
Tomorrow he would go to school. He would get pushed around in the halls and jostled in the lunch line. Then after school he’d get beaten up again.
At least, the jar had air holes.
