Try Your Emotion*
Ryou stared at Bakura. He wanted to hug his yami and make all the pain go away but at the same time he wanted to beat him.
“Yami, how could you say those things? How could you hurt Malik so much? And Marik, Marik is your friend too –”
“I said it I meant it!” Bakura still faced the window. He’d let Ryou in sometime ago and now knew the door hung open for any audience that gathered. “Just get out Ryou.”
The doe eyed hikari walked over and spun the thief, looking in his eyes. “You didn’t mean any of it! Now go apologize to him!’
“NO!” he pushed Ryou away. “YOU DON’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ME! ANYTHING ABOUT HOW I FEEL!” He punched the wall and turned away again. “So just…get out.”
Ryou was near panic. What was going on? He was feeling so many strange things through the link, it was driving him insane. He was crying again and he didn’t know why. “Bakura! Bakura! Why? Stop it! Apologize! What do you mean get out? Do you mean get out of the house get out of the room what?”
“Just get out.” He said calmly, closing off his side of the link. It was amazing that while Ryou received about every emotion he was feeling, any inkling of love didn’t even faze the sensitive boy.
“If I’m a brother to you, then you’d better give your brother some space before I hurt you as well.”
“BAKURA! ”the boy screamed, clinging to him. “Just tell me what it is! Why are you hurting, why are you hurting our friends –”
Ryou hit the ground with a yelp and Bakura flicked out his knife.
“You’ve got two choices Ryou. You can get out of my room or I can let my knife feel your insides.”
The boy started sobbing and Bakura kicked his leg. “Now, you’re running out of time Ryou.”
Ryou got up and started walking towards Bakura, arms out. “No, I love you! Stop this!”
“YOU DON’T LOVE ME!” he roared and in a swift movement of action committed an act that could never be undone.
Brown eyes widened and a gasp left pale lips as Bakura’s knife found its mark. The hikari stepped back and held his hands over the wound, watching red seep through his ivory sweater vest. He looked at Bakura, all the tears gone from his eyes.
“Yami…Bakura…” He looked down at his hands, now stained impossibly red. “You –hurt –me.”
His vision faded and he fell to the floor. Bakura stood there and cleaned off his knife, tears running down his face. He kneeled and grabbed a towel to stop the bleeding. He kissed Ryou on the lips and whispered to him.
“When you wake up, hate me. I want you to hate me with every fiber of your soul.” He then made a call to 911 and left the room via the window, not knowing whether he’d be back.
Marik tensed when he heard pounding on the front door and left his broken hikari to answer it. EMS teams ran in and upstairs and Marik followed. When he saw Ryou on the floor, a sky blue towel dyed violet with his blood, he nearly lost it.
What had Bakura done?
****
Bakura drove like there was no tomorrow. What had he done? He’d stabbed the only person he’d ever cared about. He didn’t even know if Ryou would survive.
But he will and when he awakes he’ll be strong and he’ll hate me.
That’s something the yami could understand. Hate. Love, rejection, affection; he had no idea of those things, he couldn’t take them. He didn’t like the way they made him feel, but hate…he knew what hate was loud and clear.
There’s no turning back now… he thought, trying to contemplate what his next move would be.
I’ll need money and a place to hide for a while, especially when word gets out to the friendship cult that I stabbed their mascot. Most likely they’ll all turn me on all the things I’ve done. Shit, I might have to move someplace totally different!
He drove down several back roads and finally hit the highway, a destination in mind. He knew where he could get money. Hell, the guy had so much of it, there’s no way he’d miss a few thousand.
****
Ryou awoke to white light and closed his eyes again. “Yami…” he whimpered.
“Shhh…” came a nearby voice. “You’re safe here.”
“Marik?” Ryou opened his eyes, wincing as the light pierced them again. He looked to his side and Marik sat there, smiling gently. “Where’s Bakura?”
“He’s gone.”
“No!” he tried to sit up then cried out in pain. Marik eased him back down and stroked his hair.
“Chill out Bambi, I’m here.”
Ryou relaxed and settled back down. He knew Marik must be serious if he used the boy’s house nickname. His house mates had been calling him Bambi ever since they’d stumbled upon the movie on some kid’s channel.
He looked to his right and saw a red eyed Malik perched in a chair across the room. The white haired boy waved gently and Malik shot up and raced over to the bed, hugging him.
“I’m so sorry I’m so sorry!” he started crying again and Marik grunted. Malik stopped and wiped his eyes.
“Malik, stop. You had nothing to do with this.”
“But Yami-chan –”
“If you don’t get back over there and try to relax I’ll stab you. Now get.”
Malik whimpered, but meandered back over to the chair where he curled up and closed his eyes.
“Hikaris.” Marik smiled at Ryou who smiled in return. “Now, you want to tell us what really happened? We told the cops you stumbled upon a thief…which isn’t too far from the truth.”
Ryou shook his head. “Nothing happened. I tried to take Bakura’s knife from him and I stabbed myself instead.” He gave a pain filled laugh. “Maybe he was so surprised he just had to get out of there.”
Marik nodded and leaned back away from the bed. “Get some rest. We’ll be here all night.”
“’kay…”
****
Night fell before Bakura made his move. He’d been watching the place all day, trying to get down guard patrol times and shift switches to a science. He didn’t want to take any chances, but if he had to, he would kill to get away.
He vaulted over the fence and made his way through the various shrubberies to his entry point. That was a fault of this estate, their landscaping made it way too easy for someone like him to break in. All this high tech crap meant nothing if parts of your estate weren’t well guarded.
He entered the first window he made it to and grinned at his luck. It was only seven and parts of the place had lights out already? He looked around the room and decided this wasn’t where he wanted to be. What he was looking for was probably in the jackass’s office.
**
Seto Kaiba stopped typing to regard a red blinking light on the underside of his desk. He sighed and shook his head before he grabbed a remote and aimed it at his “book case”. The case split and moved aside to reveal row after row of tv monitors with crystal clear color resolution.
One of the monitor’s labels was highlighted in red.
Great, I have two research papers and accounting to do and some asshole wants to try to break in tonight.
He thought about calling security, but then decided against it. Who ever it was, they’d yet to appear on the screens, were probably coming here and when that happened, he’d be ready.
He took the .22 out of his desk and sat it next to his laptop.
Seto Kaiba didn’t have time to play games.
**
So he didn’t kill the maids. It didn’t mean he still wasn’t hard core. He just didn’t think it was worth it to knock off a clueless broad because they got in your way.
Bakura chuckled to himself as he laid his latest victim on the ground. She’d wake up later with a head ache, but hey, at eh least the candelabra had been used.
Before knocking the woman senseless, he’d asked the way to the money. She told him what he already knew, that it was in Mr. Kaiba’s office. At least she’d pointed him in the correct direction. He didn’t have time to be wandering about this place all night.
**
Seto Kaiba shook his head as he watched Bakura approach his office door. He figured he’d shoot after he got an explanation. Cocking the gun, he waited as the knob turned.
**
Bakura opened the door and blinked as he saw Seto Kaiba aiming a gun at him from his huge desk near the back of the room.
“Can you really hit me with that thing?”
“Yes.”
The thief stood his ground trying to think of a way he could make it over the desk and slit Kaiba’s throat before he got a shot off. It wasn’t looking good for him. He’d never been shot, but rumors were, it hurt.
Reaching behind him, he barely dove aside as Kaiba pulled the trigger, shooting a hole in the door where his head had been. He now had his knife out, but was staring in awe at the splintered and burned wood.
Shit, he wasn’t kidding!
“Now…” Kaiba stood, rounded his desk and approached the thief. “Tell me why you’re here so it won’t bother me after you’re bleeding all over my expensive rug.”
What?! He’s really going to – Bakura shook his head sat up on his knees, letting the knife fall.
Who cares? At least this way I’ll never have to face Ryou again. I won’t have to apologize to Marik or go to school or deal with Malik’s whining. After 5000 years I can actually die! Get some piece, even if I do go to hell!
He began to laugh even as tears fell down his face, and Kaiba merely continued, pressing the gun to Bakura’s temple.
“You’re so pathetic. What’d you come here for? To die?”
“Nope!” Bakura laughed and looked up at Seto, grinning wildly. “I stabbed Ryou. He’s not in love with me. So –so I had to tell Malik off you know, I had to make Ryou hate me for hurting his little friend and when –and when he wouldn’t go away and when he wouldn’t stop trying to forgive me –”
His hands trembled as he stared at them. “I stabbed him. I just did it. I really did it and I felt his pain and for the first time he said –he said that I hurt him and for once I didn’t like it at all I –”
He broke down at the CEO’s feet, finally letting himself feel the pain he’d been going through for the past three weeks, even more so in the past day. The only time he’d cried this much was when he’d been alive the first time and –
“Get off my floor Thief. I just had the place dry cleaned.”
Seto put the gun away and stood there staring down at the youth. Here Bakura was, accepting his pain, while he’d just been hiding it in his work. At least one of them was strong.
He went back over near his desk and opened his wall safe.
“And so, what were you going to do Bakura? Flee the country?”
“Yes!” the white haired boy sniffed and wiped his face with his sleeve, deciding he was done making an ass of himself. He got up, retrieving his knife. “I’m getting out of here before Ryou can come looking for me. Before he can break me again.”
“I thought you were strong? You don’t seek out your enemy and cry all over his boots.”
Bakura walked over to where the other teen was and wiped his face again. “You’re not the enemy, you’re just a jackass. Yugi rejects you and you don’t even flinch. You act like you never felt. Even I know that’s not healthy.”
Seto opened his safe. “You cry like a woman.”
“After 5000 years, yeah, maybe I do, but I’m human.” Bakura stared at Seto, really looked. “And you’re human too.”
“What the hell’s that supposed to mean?” He counted out fifteen thousand yen.
“That you don’t wash your face well enough for the tears tracks to go away.”
The CEO frowned and looked at Bakura. “Mind your own business.”
“How much are you giving me?”
“Whatever it takes for you to go away and keep your mouth shut.”
Bakura gave a half hearted grin. “Aw, is Kaiba gonna cry again? Yugi rejected me, boo hoo! Bet you didn’t even get a kiss off the Midget did you?”
Seto growled and threw the money back in his safe. “This is what I get for my charity!” He pointed his gun at Bakura again. “Get out you low life.”
“You should see him and Marik together. Pretty disgusting how they make out all the time and feel each other up. Do you know what it’s like to hear them argue? God it’s so cliché!” Bakura grabbed the gun and licked the barrel. “Look, I’m done crying, so I need a little comfort. Give me some of that classic Kaiba emotionless sex huh?”
“Fuck you!”
“Indeed!”
Kaiba shoved Bakura away. “Get out!”
The thief backed up, hands out. “Whatever you say Kaiba, whatever you say. But remember what I said, I’m done crying. You should be too.”
And with that, Bakura took his renewed attitude and walked out of the door, kicking over a vase stand.
Seto set his gun down and mumbled curses. He hated that bastard.
