Chapter 2

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

The first thing that registered in Ryou’s mind, was that he was cold. Instinctively, he reached out with his mind, searching for that of his brother. But he recognized none of the minds that his telepathy touched. When he opened his eyes, he registered that he was not in his quarters on his ship. Alarmed, Ryou sat straight up and looked around. He was in a holding cell. He then noticed the metal collar and bracelets and anklets that were on him. He gulped; Chain Energy Generators. He was a prisoner. Standing and looking around, he wondered what had happened. Then, he heard voices outside of his holding unit, and with a hiss, the door opened. Ryou whirled and pressed himself back against the wall, staring at the men that entered his cell. They had tan skin and dark hair. They were Egyptonian. Then, Ryou remembered.

FLASHBACK

~We have the Sumerian Amabassador’s ship on our scopes, sir.~ A man called, and Ryou nodded from where he sat near the captain. He was glad that his trip was almost over. He really wasn’t that fond of space travel. The only way he would do it was at his brother’s request. Of course, being the Royal Assyrian Ambassador, and Prince, he was asked to do this frequently. He sighed and closed his eyes.

~Captain, we have a ship on our scopes who refuses to identify itself.~ A voice called, and Ryou opened his eyes and turned to look at the screen that had popped up. He frowned. This ship was coming in fast. He stood.

~Zoom in.~ He requested softly through the telepathic link he shared with his people. The picture zoomed in, and a few moments later, the crest of the Egyptonian Empire was visible on the ship.

“They have a lock on us!!” On woman screamed, and the ship shuddered as it was caught in the tractor beam.

“Get the Prince to his chambers!!” the captain ordered, leaping to his feet and shoving Ryou into the arms of his escort, a girl named Anzu that he really didn’t like all that much. She dragged him from the room and took him to his chambers, pulling her laser pistol from her hip. The ship gave a lurch and Ryou yelped and stumbled into the wall, Anzu keeping him from falling over.

~Hurry, sir.~ She said, and shoved Ryou into his room and following, closing the door behind them. Ryou looked up at the cieling, alarmed, as the ship began to shudder, before it gave another lurch, finally falling still. Then, the lights went out, and there was silence.

“What’s happening?” Ryou whispered, terrified.

“Shh.” Anzu said, and they both listened. Suddenly, the lights started flashing red and the emergency siren started going off. “Shit. Come with me, Prince. You need to get to a transport, now!”

“What?!”

“They’re on the ship!” Anzu shouted, and dragged him from the room. In the corridors, it was chaos. There was laser fire everywhere and dead bodies, a few Egyptonians, but mostly Assyrians. Ryou began to whimper in fright as the halls filled with smoke. And then, he heard Anzu scream through the shooting, and saw her fall over.

~Anzu?!~ Ryou cried, kneeling. Her mind was silent. “Aznu?!” He turned her over and leapt back with a shriek. He stared at the charred remains of her face, her dead eyes staring at him.

“GO!!” A soldier shouted, and shoved Ryou. “Get off the ship, Prince!” Ryou turned and ran blindly through the smoke.

“THERE!!” He heard a voice shout. “CATCH HIM!!” He ran faster, hearing the sounds of dozens of boots chasing him. He started to cry when he realized that he was lost. He reached the end of the corridor and ran to the right, hoping to find a transport. All he wanted was to escape and go back to his brother on Assyria. He hung another right and slammed into something, nearly falling back, but strong hands caught him and held him upright.

“C-Captain!” Ryou gasped.

“We have to get you out of—“ the captain began, but there was another shot, and the captain jerked, and slowly slumped to the floor. Ryou screamed and backed away. All he saw in the bridge were blood, bodies, and smoke. And now, men in dark uniforms were pouring in through the doors, backing the prince into the main control panel and training their guns on him. Ryou, sobbing in terror and confusion, slid to the floor and hid his face in his knees.

“Sir, we found the noble that the ship was transporting.” One man said, and the other men all saluted the officer who entered.

“Alright then, let’s see what we have.” The man said gruffly, and strode over to Ryou, grabbing him and dragging him to his feet by his silvery robes. He grabbed Ryou’s chin and forced him to face him. A look of surprise briefly crossed the man’s face, but then, he grinned.

“This is no mere Noble.” He said, and glanced back at the men under his command. “This is the Assyrian Prince.” And he turned and hurled Ryou to the floor so that the Egyptonian soldiers could see. Ryou huddled on the floor, eyes darting around for something, anything.

Finally, he leapt towards a body and snatched the laser pistol, whirling to shoot the commander of the Egyptonian soldiers. But no luck. As soon as Ryou turned, the Commander had seized both of his wrists and twisted the one holding the gun.

“Drop it, Your Highness.” He drawled, and Ryou gasped at the pain in his wrist. It grew numb, and the weapon fell from his fingers. “Good boy.” He released Ryou, who slowly backed away, clutching his wrist.

“What do you want?” Ryou asked, in a trembling tone.

“We weren’t sure. But we are now.” The Commander said, and motioned to his men. “Take him. We’ll deliver him straight to the Pharaoh.” And he turned and headed for the door.

“NO!!” Ryou screamed, and struggled against the iron grips that held him. He bit and clawed at the soldiers dragging him from his ship and onto their own. He screamed and fought them the whole way. After they got on the Egyptonian ship, there was a huge explosion, and, as they walked by a window, Ryou looked out and saw what was left of his ship burning, debris floating away. Suddenly, there was a large thump as something hit the window. Red spattered across it, and Ryou screamed at the dead face of the captain as it bounced off of the window and floated away. Ryou’s eyes rolled back into his head and he slumped to the floor in a dead faint.

END FLASHBACK

Ryou eyed the Egyptonians who had just entered his cell. The taller soldier lifted a small remote control, clicked a button, and Ryou winced as greenish gold energy strands were generated between the cuffs on his wrists, the cuffs on his ankles, and two beams from the collar, each going to a cuff on the wrist of each guard. Now trapped between them, Ryou was marched out of the cell and down a narrow hall. It was then that he realized how quiet it was; the Star Ship’s generators were off. Ryou looked up and faced the Commander.

“Welcome to Egyptonia.” He said with an evil grin, and hit the switch to lower the ramp. Ryou winced and lifted an arm to hide his eyes from the harsh glare of the twin suns of Egyptonia. He was forced down the ramp and onto a dirt street. Squinting in the harsh light, he glanced around. There were hundreds of Egyptonians lining the road that led to a massive structure that was more than likely the palace that was the home of the ruler of the Desert Planet. The gaurds on either side of Ryou mounted beasts that resembles hyenas with impala antlers, and the beasts began to move. Ryou yelped as he was jerked and stumbled along between them, nearly blinded by such bright light. He himself came from a planet where the sun was rarely seen.

While Egyptonia was a desert planet, Assyria was a rainy planet, covered in lush green forests and dotted with numerous swamps. It was always cool and dim there, so Ryou was rather overwhelemed by the light and heat of Egyptonia. He reached up and grasped the hood of his silver cloak and pulled it up, covering his head and shielding his eyes from the sun. No wonder the Egyptonians were so tan, and his people so pale. The Sumerians were in between, living on a world of moor and mountains, but had no deserts, and no forests.

Ryou was jerked out of his thoughts as he tripped in the road and fell, only to be dragged through the sand by the beasts, and laughed at by the people. He managed to struggle to his feet, but it was a fight not to faint from the heat as he was paraded through the streets and up to the palace. He nearly fainted in relief when the gates of the palace closed and he was no longer being subjected to the awful twin suns.

The gaurds dismounted and the Commander led the way through the halls of the palace to a pair of large double doors. After a brief exchange with the sentries, the Commander was admitted into the great throne room of Pharaoh Marik.

“My Lord…” He said, and dropped to his knee, bowing his head. A pair of fierce violet eyes glared down.

“What?!” The Pharaoh barked. “This had better be good, Anak.” And a blast of telekinesis sent the Pharaoh’s glass shattering on the floor before Commander Anak.

“Oh, it is, my liege…” The Commander said, standing and grinning in confidence, only irritating Marik further than he was after he had killed his latest concubine in a fit of rage, an action that he now regretted since he was feeling very… frustrated.

“Out with it.”

“I have returned with a prisoner of war.”

“So?”

“My Lord, may I present the Assyrian Prince?”
