Chapter 2

It was lunch time and Yugi noticed Tabris entering the cafeteria, lost look on his face. He was about to get up and go see him when Bakura came up behind the new student and talked to him. Tabris nodded and followed the tomb robber, the white haired yami holding his upper arm so he didn’t get separated in the crowd. Atemu looked over at where his hilari was looking and was surprised to see Tabris sitting down with Bakura and Marik, who both were grinning. He relaxed when he saw Ryou and Malik join them.

“So, you like it here so far?” asked Marik, bored and stealing one of Malik’s fries, who didn’t notice it.

“It’s just like I remember it. How long have the four of you been here?”

“Me and Bakura it’s been a year and Marik and Malik it’s around two months,” supplied Ryou, slapping Bakura’s hand away from his own food.

“Truly? I would have thought the four of you would have been here longer. Where are you from originaly?”

“Well, me, Marik and Bakura are from Egypt while Ryou is just from England,” said Malik.

“Just from England? What’s that supposed to mean?” asked Ryou, faking being mad.

“Exactly what it means. It’s pretty doll there anyway.”

“How would you know? You’ve never been there.”

“Oh, cut it out you two. You sound like two kids crying over a dead bird and as to who’s going to get to eat it,” said Marik, smirking when the two hikaris looked at him with discuted faces.

Tabris just chuckled and ate his food, which he’d brought in a lunch box. Ryou was chewing on a fry when a thought hit him.

“Say Tabris...how can you open your lock when you can’t see it?” he asked gently, not wanting to insult him.

“Well, I’ve had the same lock for the last ten years, so I know it by heart now. And as for how I find my locker, the principal made sure I had one on the end of a row so I didn’t get to look for it.”

“Makes sence. Now, what if you were to lose yourself? How would you find your way?” teased Marik.

Bakura laughed while Malik rolled his eyes and Ryou sighed, having expected the Egyptian to be insulting any second now. Tabris just smiled.

“I get an idiot like you to tell me the way where I’m going.”

Marik’s mouth drop open as Malik and Ryou started laughing, Bakura falling on the ground laughing even harder. Marik closed his mouth and glared at Tabris, who smiled backk gently, guessing the other was rather mad at his. But his smile dropped as he smelled something.

“Are you going to stand there long Kaiba or are you going to talk?”

Bakura looked up from his place on the ground, raising an eyebrow as he saw the CEO there, standing behind Tabris with his arms crossed over his chest, sneering down at the black-haired teen. Ryou and Malik looked at Kaiba and both looked back to their plates, neither in the mood to get under the taller teen’s skin. Marik just rolled his eyes and glared at him for interrupting his little begining of a fight with Tabris.

“Need to have a word with you.”

Tabris raised an brow as he looked over his shoulder. He sighed and stood up.

“I’ll see you guys later.”

“Later Tab,” replied Bakura, waving his hand.

“Don’t get yourself killed!” added Marik, making two hikaris glare at him and sending the white haired yami laughing on the ground again.

Tabris followed Kaiba closely, not wanting to get lost at all. They soon went outside, where Tabris had more light and didn’t have to comcentrate as hard to make out the shadows.

“What did you want to talk about?” he asked once they were seated on one of the benches.

“Why are you back here? I thought your father wanted to be rid of this place.”

Tabris sighed and looked down at his hands, which were resting on his lap.

“My father decided he wanted my mother’s money, but he suddenly learned there was an itch to it when he went to claim it. My mother left it in my possetion, as you know and she made a deal on it too. I have to live here for three years before he can touch the money, and only when I’m seventeen. It’s just ironic how I’m going to be seventeen in a year yet he has to wait until I’m nineteen to get the money.”

Kaiba looked down at the ground and sighed.

“Is that the only reason why you moved back here?” he asked after a few seconds of silence.

Tabris smiled at him gently, rolling his eyes.

“Course not. Personally, I’m here because this is my home. I’ll need you to do me a favor too. Could you find me a good damn layer that wont cheat on me because of my blindness and get something so that I end up being....I’m not too sure, but away from my father at all causes. I can’t stand to live with him anymore. Not only did he start to lower me down again, but when we moved to Germany, he made sure I never had a friend and that everyone always picked on me. The ones who actually tried to help me were just too weak and ended up hurt. And my father also married this awful woman who always slaps me for no reasons.”

Kaiba frowned as he lisened. He placed his arm around Tabris’ shoulders as the boy started to shiver, but there was no tears in his eyes. He’d never had tears in his eyes, and he never let anyone see when he felt weak, but Kaiba had known him well enough to tell which signs said what was going on with his, and it seemed he hadn’t changed much.

“How about coming over after school? I’m sure Mokuba would like to see you. He was very sad when you left.”

“Mokie? I’m so sorry I didn’t get to see him before I had to get on the plane. I had a gift for him too...guess I’ll get to give it to him another day. It’s at home right now.”

Kaiba smiled and stood up.

“We better get going. I’m quite surprised you befriended such losers.”

“Which ones?” asked Tabris, smiling gently.

“Yugi Motou and his little gang. They are all below you.”

“Maybe, but at least they did offer to help me out. And I must admit that Bakura, Marik, Malik and Ryou are quite interesting. Who knew yamis would actually co-exist with normal humans?”

Seto looked at Tabris before sighing. He passed his arm around the smaller boy’s shoulders and held him close to his side.

“Well, you’re one to talk. Didn’t you use to be an assassin in ancient Egypt?”

“Yes, but me it’s diferent. My hikari is long dead and I just happened to get his body. It’s not like if he would have been born looking like this.”

“Ah, yes, the dead baby in the whomb of his mother. I never really realised it could have happened.”

“What I find the funniest is that the damn Hikaris don’t seem to realise that their yamis have been with them since they were nothing but babies. Too bad you just happened to be a reicarnation. It would have been funny to see you struggle for controle with my dear priest.”

Seto chuckled as they made their way back to school, his arm still around Tabris’ shoulders.

“I would win, of course.”
