Chapter 2: Picking Up Pieces

"Ali, what happened to you yesterday?"

Alison's gray eyes stared at my brother as she lay on a couch watching one of her DVDs. She had a big thing for Disney movies and apparently, besides the Lion King Trilogy, she loved Mulan and a couple of others. Her bandaged hands rested carefully on her stomach and Slifer the Sky Dragon, her soul guardian, was in mini dragon mode sitting nearby watching the dragon on Mulan and snorting. "I cannot remember, Mokie," she said rather flatly. She spoke in that tone in serious moments. Mokuba raised a brow. She looked at him. "Even if I could, I rather not remember." He nodded and sat back in his chair. I was nearby in the kitchen glancing every so often at the screen, but checking on Alison as well.

She had to have surgery on the hand she busted in the mirror since she has the strength of ten men when pissed off it seems and didn't realize that she was a woman and possibly not built to do that. I'll rephrase that, no one is built to do that. The doctor said she had so much stress that he was surprised she was still alive. It had built up over the years and I was the cause of it. He also wanted to medicate her and that I got offended on. Alison's not crazy. She's possibly the only person besides my brother that has a lick of sense in this house. I shook my head and continued to fix the snack I was working on.

Oh yes. I can cook.

Slifer whined suddenly and that caught my attention. I turned around to find Alison trying to get up. "Lay back down, Ali," I said using her nickname. Alison frowned a moment. "Am I to lay down when I have to go to the bathroom?" she asked narrowing her eyes. "Well, why didn't you tell someone?" I groaned and helped her to her feet earning being pushed away. She refuses to let me help her. I know why since I was responsible for what happened. Slifer growled a bit and grew taller to about her height and she leaned on him as he guided her off. Apparently, she was still in a lot of pain. I wanted to help her, but she wouldn't let me near her.

That I don't blame her for.

Once Slifer returned with her, I finished the snack and walked to her laying the food on the table nearby. She looked at me quietly and then at the food. Her hand hesitantly reached out and she took the snack and began eating. I raised a brow and watched her without a word. She looked at me, but then quickly turned her eyes away. I sighed and sat down on the couch near her feet. "You need something for the pain?" I asked. She looked at me. "No, I am handling pain that feels like I was hit by a car rather well," she said sarcastically and frowned. Ok, I took that as a yes and stood up to get the pain medication and some water. I put it down nearby and looked at her. "Until you let me help you, I'm not giving it to you and you better not send Slifer since he's not head of this house," I said sternly. She could've glared 1,000 daggers into me right then and there, but I didn't budge. Slifer shrank back then. She frowned and began to reach for it herself. I moved it out of reach.

Oh yeah...I had her then.

She frowned and decided to just deal with the pain more than my sorry ass and I smirked walking off with the medicine and the water. That got her a bit upset. The look on her face was like...this isn't fair. She turned over a bit and tears slid down her cheeks as she tried to fight the pain consuming her. "WHY DO YOU LIVE TO TORTURE ME?!" she suddenly screamed out and burst into sobs. That was not the reaction I was hoping for and I walked to her and knelt down. "You shouldn't be so damn stubborn," I said sternly. "I would've gladly given you that medication and I'm doing my best to help you. But you refused and when you refuse my help, you don't get what you want. So cry all you want. It doesn't affect me none."

I'm such a liar! OK, POST A SIGN ON ME! Seto Kaiba is the world's biggest liar!

Alison's tears increased. She was obviously hurt about something and it wasn't what I said. She sobbed hard in the pillow and I stood up walking off. Mokuba frowned and followed. "Give her the medication, Nii-Sama!" he begged. "She's hurting badly!" "When she stops acting like a child and acts her age, I will," I said sternly. "She brought this on herself, Mokuba. I'm sorry if it seems like I'm hurting her, but I'm teaching her a lesson." The sobs suddenly stopped and I looked up wondering if she tried something again. I walked in the living room as she was struggling to calm down wishing someone would hold her. She felt empty and alone. Not what I wanted either. "Mokuba, leave us alone for now," I said. "Take Slifer with you." "Yes, Nii-Sama," he said and left with Slifer on his shoulders. I walked to Alison and sat down gathering her in my arms. She looked up at me and I rested her head on my shoulder as I rocked her in my arms. "Just let it out," I whispered and those words caused her to sob into my shirt.

For about an hour, she cried until her sobs died down into sniffles.

"Are you going to let me help you?" I asked. She nodded and I dried her eyes with some tissue nearby. "You want you pain medication?" She nodded since her voice was about gone. I lifted her gently and carried her to the kitchen to help her take the pill and she rested on my shoulder while I held her rubbing her back. "You're due a nap," I said. "You haven't taken one all day today." I sighed and noticed she was rather sleepy. "Want me to stay with you?" She nodded and I lifted her carefully and carried her to her room as I laid her down on the bed and laid down beside her. She was instantly asleep while I watched her and stroked her long hair.

I just hope she would recover.
