Chapter two
It was cold outside. The wind blew the rain into his body as Bakura stood on the street. It was dark all around and the rain did not feel as if it would let up anytime soon. But he stayed outside. It was as if he was searching for something but in reality he was waiting. Waiting for the rain to wash away the pain and confusion he was feeling. He was waiting for the cold to sink into his soul and freeze it once more. He was waiting for the cold to turn his heart to ice. But it seemed like that wouldn’t happen, no matter what he did or how hard he tried. It seems the cold refused to turn his heart and soul back to the frozen stone they once were. So he stayed out on the street waiting for enlightenment to shine his way so he could see how and when he began to feel the way he feels. It had happened so slowly that he didn’t even realise what was going on telling it was too late, and by then he had fallen completely in love with Ryou. Keeping emotionally distant from him and others was something that he prides himself on but somehow his white hair light had worked his way into his heart and no matter what he did or tried it looked as if there was no way to work him out of his heart. And yet part of him wondered if he should even try.
‘Damn him for making me feel this way.’ He thought has the rain seemed to fall harder. As if to drive him back into the warmth he fled form the moment this storm started.
‘Why should I have to feel this way and toward him of all people?!’ he sighed.
“Baka!” he said not really expecting an answer, not really wanting one. But he felt the need to hear something else besides the rain and wind around him. It had happened so gradually that he never even realised that he fell in love with Ryou tell it was too late. He had no clue on how to act on these new emotions or to even deal with them himself. It wasn’t easy for him to be kind to others when he would much rather be cruel and heartless to them. It was much easier for him to be cruel then nice, especially when it concerns the well fare of his light. He was content to be mean to him, to treat his as he pleased without a second thought. But lately he couldn’t seem to be able to deal with his light without these new emotions getting in his way. And he was beginning to think that Ryou was starting to notice his odd behaviour. But he couldn’t seem to help it. He was starting to act nicer to Ryou without even realising it. But thankfully if he has noticed he hasn’t said anything. He really wasn’t sure what he would do if Ryou started asking him questions about his changes in behaviour. He most likely would end up doing something that he would regret later.
The rain didn’t seem to be helping much this time around. Usually he could come out in a storm and be back to his old self without too much trouble, but tonight it didn’t seem to be working. Maybe it was because Ryou had seen him leave this time and had tried to keep him inside. Maybe it was because he knew that Ryou would be waiting for him no matter how long he stayed out in the rain. Maybe because he knew that no matter how hard he tried to hide he had feelings for Ryou and no amount of cruelly was going to change that. And no matter what he did or planned Ryou always stayed by his side and accepted what was dealt, not that he had much of a choice at the time because he was physically weaker then Bakura. But still he had many chances to be free of the ancient spirit, and yet he was still here with him after all he had done and most likely well do in the near future. There was something he was missing here. Something important that he was overlooking and it was beginning to annoy him that he couldn’t seem to figure it out. He knew how he felt, no matter how hard he denied it he knew that he cared for his light. It was more then the affection one showed when he was pleased with something that was done right. Maybe his feelings have grown for the boy who’s body he shared for a time.
The rain let up to a light drizzle causing Bakura to look up. He was so deep in his thoughts that he’d forgotten about the rain. He shivered in his wet cloths as he looked about. No one was there. It took him a moment to get going, it seems the rain was more content to freeze his body then his heart so he started off home. Looking about he realised it was later then he thought and he was eager to get back inside to warm up. He smiled to himself as he thought of his nice warm bed and began to jog once he saw the house he shared with Ryou. Stopping just outside the door he reached for his key, he thoughts once more focussed on his light.
‘He’s most likely in bed by now,’ he thought to himself as he got into the warm house. Once inside he stood for a moment waiting fhe fhe feeling to return to where it was. After all, wasn’t he just trying to get rid of all his feelings a moment ago? He let at a sigh and walked into the living room. The light was on. All the lights were on and he didn’t notice it has he came up to the house. It was rather off for Ryou to leave the lights on unless he was still up. And from what Bakura could see he wasn’t. He walked in the living room to find Ryou sitting by the window asleep in the chair he had pulled up. It looked as though he was waiting for somebody. But who?
“AChoo!” Bakura sneezed sounded louder then it should have in the quiet house. ‘Dammit I got a cold’ he thought crossly as he whipped his nose on his sleeve.
“Bakura” Ryou was up. “Did you just get in?” he asked quietly.
“Yup . . . I thought you would be in bed by now.” It was acquired to talk to him like this. It was almost a regular conversation. He shivered, he tried not to but he was soaked to the bone so he shivered. Ryou noticed.
“Your soaked” Ryou stated
“Obviously” was Bakura’s sarcastic replay.
“Go get changed, and I’ll get you some hot chocolate.”
It surprised Bakura how fast Ryou could move when he was half asleep as he disappeared into the kitchen. Slowly he makes his way upstairs to his room grabbing a towel along his way and begun to dry off. It was unusual for Ryou to fall asleep like that. He wondered if there was something on his lights mind that would keep him up. He made it to his room and changed out of his wet clothes into something warm and dry. It was just some sweets but it did the trick. Then he proceeded to crawl into bed under the warm covers. Not even two seconds later Ryou came in with the promised cup of hot chocolate.
“Sit up and drink this” he said coming in, and for once Bakura did as he was asked. The hot chocolate being too much to pass up. It was just the thing needed to warm him up. Though there were other ideas in his head that he chose not to entertain. Most of them involving Ryou in bed with him but he was still unsure of how he felt. Perhaps some sleep would help clear his head, it didn’t help that he was beginning to nod off either. He felt warm and it didn’t help that Ryou had snuck another blanket on his bed without him noticing.
“Let me take this.” He said reaching for the cup. Bakura was a little reluctant to let go of the cup, he wanted to finish it but found he could barely hold it. The next ting he knew Ryou was tucking him in and saying something about catching a fever form the rain. But soon that didn’t even matter as he felt himself fall asleep. The last thing he remembered was seeing Ryou leaning over him. His eyes were so gentle and caring and he was looking straight at Bakura that he began to wonder.
‘Does he really have feelings for me despite all that I’ve done to him?” After that everything went dark.
