The Sands of Time
Carved in Stone
Chapter 2- The Sand Tim Time
A man of Egyptian descent wearing a white turban and dark sunglasses stood at the helm of
the boat. The unrelenting afternoon sun beat down on him and 2 crew men on deck. Ryou’s
father stood a few feet away from him looking over the enchanting Nile River.
wake your son and his friend?” David took a deep breath and sighed.“No Ramose, that’s alright. I’ll go down and wake them myself. They were out enjoying the
nightlife in Cairo last night and didn’t get in until six this morning.”Ramose laughed as he lowered the throttle.“Ah yes, the joys of being a young adult. Remember when we were their age, David?” David patted the sweat beading up on his forehead away with his red bandana and smiled
reminiscently.“Indeed I do, Ramose.......indeed I do.”Ramose fanned himself with the daily news paper and chuckled.“You were quite the roughhewn back in the old days, David. It’s hard to believe you’re the same
man that stood on the torch of the Statue of Liberty wearing nothing but a pair of black tube
socks singing “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds!”* David’s face drained of it’s color instantly.“Oh for goodness sake, I was hoping that you would have forgotten that by now!” “I remember it like it was yesterday, David. We had just graduated from the academy and were
set to leave for Machu Picchu the next day.” Ramose rattled on.David sighed as he recalled that day.“But I never made it there.” he mumbled somberly.“You were trying to do what you thought was right.” Ramose assured him.“I know......but I ended up botching it up. When Eris told me she was pregnant, I honestly tried
to settle down and lighten my workload. But my passion for my work is what lead to her taking
the kids and leaving me. Everything went downhill from there, so I buried myself in my work. I
barely got to see my son and daughter while they were growing up, and it was all my own fault.”Ramose nodded his head sympathetically and dropped the subject as their boat drew closer to
port.“Is that today’s paper?” David ask curiously.Ramose looked at the newspaper in his hand and nodded.“Hot off the Cairo presses”“May I see it?” David ask politely.Ramose handed the newspaper to David and smiled.“Of course you may.”David unfolded the paper and gasp.“No.......this can’t be......”“What is it, David?” Ramose replied nervously as he started turning the boat into port.David blinked a tear out of his eye and set the paper down.“Nothing, nothing at all. I’ll go wake the boys.”Ramose picked up the newspaper after David had went below deck and chuckled. Right on the
bottom of the front page there was a small picture of the scene after the bar fight Malik and
Ryou were involved in. The camera had caught the two boys locked together at the lips enjoying
a passionate victory kiss. Ramose chuckled as he put the paper down.“Hmmm.......like father like son, I suppose!” he mused to himself/ David felt his was down to the lower level of the boat. He could hear the sound of the
waves splashing against hull as he entered the small living quarters where Malik and Ryou were
resting.“Boys?” he called out in a hushed voice. The lower deck was completely enshrouded in darkness except for a small ray of sun peeping
through a circular window. The little bit of light was just enough to illuminate two sleeping
figures nestled contently together tangled in a thin blanket.David gaped at the unexpected spectacle before him. He hadn’t prepared himself to find his
completely nude son wrapped around his partially clothed friend. David was too stunned to speak. Any thoughts that had passed through his mind was completely
forgotten. The small amount of light that shown through the small window slowly disappeared as Ramose
docked the boat. The lower level was now completely covered in darkness. David cleared his throat.“It’s time to wake up, boys.”Ryou let out a loud sigh.“Father? Is that you?”David tried to wipe the image he’d just seen out of his mind before replying to his son. He took a deep breath and slowly began to speak.“Yes, son” David paused in the middle of his sentence to take another deep breath, “We’re near
the excavation site. Think you and Malik can be up top in five minutes?”“Yes father” Ryou replied, followed by a long, satisfying yawn. Ryou’s father quickly made his way back to the upper deck. He found Ramose and his two
assistants securing the boat with ropes and chains to the dock. He rushed over to help them while
he waited for Ryou and Malik.Minutes later Ryou and Malik emerged completely dressed from the lower deck looking tired
and hungover.“Good morning, father” Ryou smiled as he pulled a brush through his tangled white hair.“Morning son, can you hold this for me?” David said quickly, handing Ryou a rope.“Uh.....sure, I suppose I could.” Ryou chuckled as he sed hed his hair brush into the back pocket
of his tan cargo shorts.“Gods, it’s bright out here!” Malik complained as he slipped on a pair of sunglasses and took a
seat on a deck chair. He stretched his long, tan legs out in front of himself and let the hot
Egyptian sun soak into his body.Ryou smacked his lips together and groaned.“Father? Is there any drinking water on board? My mouth feels like sandpaper.”Ramose, who was standing only a few feet away from Ryou, started to laugh.“That tends to happen after a long night of drinking.”Malik lifted his sunglasses off of his nose and sed aed at Ryou.“Just jump in the river. That should cool you off........just lookout for the Stone fish. They’ll kill
you if you step on one.”Ryou chuckled lightly as he handed Ramose the rope.

“I think I’ll pass”
“There’s water in that red cooler over by your father.” Ramose nodded.Ryou smiled brightly as he walked away.“Thank you, Ramose.”*********************************************************************
Meanwhile, back in Domino............. Seto sat as his desk looking over the blueprint to Kaiba Corps latest invention: theHolographic Duel Transmogrifier. It was an idea Joey and Mokuba had worked on together
without Seto knowing. It blew Seto’s mind that his younger brother and Joey could come up
with an idea of this caliber. The device was a simple helmet that sent a certain frequency of
electricity directly to the wearer’s frontal lobes and hypothalamus. A person’s Duel deck was
inserted into a computer and digitally “broadcast” into their brain via holowaves. The holowave
was a top secret discovery of the Kaiba Corporation many years prior. Seto was curious as to
how Mokuba got his hands on the holowave technology, but he chose to avoid questioning his
brother. Seto was confident that the Holographic Duel Transmogrifier was an assured big seller
once it hit the market. He carefully inspected the diagram of a intricately designed helmet as he
jotted down a few notes. The ringing of his cellphone disrupted his concentration.Seto picked his phone up off his desk and answered it.“This better be good.” he growled into the mouthpiece. He could hear a voice amidst the
crackling of static.//Seto, it’s me......//Kaiba carefully analyzed the voice of the person on the other line and realized it was Mokuba.“Mokuba? You’re breaking up pretty bad, where are you?” Seto responded more calmly.//I’m ...........(static).......... Joey’s.......too.......want to........//Seto could barely make out anything his younger brother was saying. “Mokuba, Can you call me back? I can’t make out a word of what you’re saying.”Seto listened for a response, but realized after a minute that they’d been disconnected. Seto
closed his cellphone and placed it back on his desk. He looked at the papers and diagrams in
front of him and sighed.“I really need a break” he grumbled to himself as he looked over his cluttered desk. He noticed
the clock up on the wall read 12:45. He’d been working on the Holographic Duel Transmogrifier
project for almost 12 hours straight. Just as Seto got up to stretch his legs, his phone rang again. He quickly snatched it up and answered it.“Mokuba?”//Nope, it’s Joey. Are you gonna show up tonight or not?//Joey’s phone connection was much clearer than Mokuba’s was to Seto’s relief. He made a
mental note to develop technology that would eliminate staticy cell phone connections before
responding to Joey’s question.“Show up where?” The sound of Joey’s mocking laughter rand through the phone.//For real, Kaiba? You really don’t remember?//Seto’s silence answered Joey’s question. Joey’s laughter once again rang through Seto’s ears.//I can’t believe you’d forget your own brother’s 18th birthday, man! You know, you should
really try to make an appearance here. I think Mokie would feel pretty bad if you didn’t at least
wish him happy birthday.//Seto’s mouth formed into an “o” and his eyes got big.“Oh shit! I totally forgot about that! Thanks for reminding me Joey, where are you guys at?”//Duke’s tavern, remember where it is?// Joey responded casually.“Yes, I know where it is. I’ll be down there in a couple minutes.” Seto could hear a lot of shouting and loud music in the background of Joey’s call. By the sound
of things, Mokuba’s 18th birthday party was turning out to be quite the soiree.//You better be here, Mokuba’s expecting you.//Seto opened his desk drawer and pulled out his car keys.“I’m on my way” Seto stated firmly as he ended the call.*************************************************Back to Egypt again............. Ryou pulled a plastic bottle of water out of the cooler and smiled at his father, who was
staring blankly at the newspaper.“So how far do we have to go yet?” he ask casually as he took gulp of his water.David continued to stare at the newspaper, not looking up at Ryou even once.“An hour or so” Ryou leaned over and tried to get a closer look at what his father was staring at on the front
page.“Anything interesting?” Ryou ask curiously.David bit down on his bottom lip and shook his head.“No son, nothing at all. I think I’m just a little worn down from all the excitement.”Ryou sighed as he patted his father’s shoulder.“Tell me about it! I feel like a zombie today. I think I had a little too much to drink last night.”David breathed in deeply through his nose and finally looked at his son.“Ryou? Can I ask you something?”Ryou nodded his head and smiled at his father.“Go ahead” David stared down at his black leather shoes and paused as he tried to find the right words. “Son,” he began, “Are you-“Before he could finish his sentence, Ramose interrupted.“David, we’re having a little problem securing the boat; would you and your son mind lending
us some assistance?”Ryou nodded his head eagerly.“Sure Ramose, we’ll be right there.”Ryou looked back at his father with a childlike adoration.“We can pick this conversation up later, alright?”David smiled slightly and nodded. “I look forward to it.” Ryou grabbed his father’s hand and pulled him to his feet. After helping with securing the boat,
they started unloading the equipment they needed for the excavation. While they were busy
unloading, another group of researchers arrived in sport utility vehicles. After loading the
equipment in and onto the vehicles, they were quickly whisked away to the excavation site. Hours passed slowly for Ryou and Malik. While David and his team of researchers set up
camp and their equipment, Malik and Ryou sat in one of the tents paging through a copy of
**National Geographic they had found in the backseat of the SUV they rode in. Ryou had hoped
to be spending time with both Malik and his father, but things didn’t seem to be going in that
direction. Boredom had set in, and both Ryou and Malik drifted off to sleep.
“Pssst.....Marik.....get up!” Bakura hissed as he took control of Ryou.
Malik’s hair began to stand on end as Marik took control of him.“I’m up, what the hell do you want?” Marik grunted.Bakura lowered his eyes and grinned evilly as he got to his feet.“Do you know where we are?”Marik stood up and rolled his eyes.“Of course I do. We’re in Egypt. What’s you’re point?”Bakura reached into the pocket of his shorts and pulled out a set of keys. He dangled theytauntingly in front of Marik.“Let’s go for a little ride.” Marik could sense Bakura was up to something unscrupulous. Nothing could stop him from
following the mischievous tomb robber. Marik chuckled as he walked behind Bakura.“Hey tomb robber” he smirked.“What!” Bakura snapped back.“Nice legs......pasty white is definitely your color.” Marik laughed.Bakura cast Marik a venomous glare.“Shut up.......if you would have seen me when I was alive M.........I KNOW you would be
jealous.”Marik rolled his eyes mockingly as they slipped out of the tent“Sure, Bakura........whatever you say....” They quietly crept around the back of the tents and approached the SUV they’d rode in
on the way there.Bakura sided up to Marik and spoke in a hushed voice.“I’ll get in and put it in nuetral. You get in front and push us until we’re far enough away. I’ll
steer.”Marik made a sour face and put his hands on his hips.“Better yet; How about YOU push and I’LL steer.” Before Marik could even blink, Bakura scrambled around to the driver’s side and jumped into
the vehicle. He quickly locked the doors so Marik couldn’t get in. “Start pushing” he laughed through the partially open window.Marik reluctantly got in front of the vehicle and started pushing it away. The desert sand muffled
their escape. As soon as they were far enough away, Bakura poked his head out of the window
and banged his hand on the roof.“Far enough, hop in!” He shouted to Marik.Marik quickly ran around the SUV and got in with Bakura.Bakura started up the engine and stepped on the gas pedal. A fountain of desert sand spilled
from under the tires as they made their escape. After driving around the desert for over an hour, they saw what looked like tall buildings
in the distance. Bakura punched the gas pedal with his foot and drove towards the city.“Do you know where you’re going?” Marik ask curiously as Bakura drove the SUV onto a main
road leading into the city.

The white haired yami silently nodded his head as he drove. He seemed to have his mind on
something. He looked a little disoriented.
He got out and started hastily looking around.“No.....it’s wrong, it’s all WRONG! What have those foolish mortals done here!”Perplexed by Bakura’s actions, Marik got out of the SUV and shouted at Bakura.“Hey, dumb ass! What the hell is wrong with you? Have you lost you mind?”Bakura frantically scurried around, frowning at everything in sight. “I can’t believe this!”Tired of playing the guessing game, Marik grabbed Bakura by his shoulders and shook him.“What the hell is your problem? Why are you freaking out! Answer me!”Bakura breathed heavily as he slowly regained his composure. “This used to be Thebes......I used to know this city like the back of my hand. But look at it now!
It’s been grossly modernized! Thebes used to be a beautiful city! But now.......gods
Marik........it’s hideous!”Marik shrugged his shoulders and laughed.“You stupid gimp, Thebes is now called Luxor. What did you expect? A procession of the
pharaoh’s priests to greet you? Has the sun scorched your feeble mind, Bakura?”Bakura sat down in the sand and sighed.“I guess I was just hoping to find something the same.”Marik put his hand on Bakura’s shoulder and smiled.“I have an idea. Come with me.”Marik seemed to know exactly where he was going. He drove the SUV down a road until they
arrived a collection of mountains in the middle of the desert. He stopped the vehicle a few feet
from a cliff and took in the breathtaking view.“What’s this?” Bakura ask curiously as he got out of the SUV.Marik got out and walked to the edge of the cliff.“This is the Valley of the Kings. 3,500 years ago the pharaohs chose to be buried out here in
these cliffs in hopes that tomb robbers wouldn’t find their final resting places.”Bakura scrunched up his nose and laughed evilly as he sided up to Marik.“Foolish mortals! The King of Thieves has found you! Your treasures are MINE!” he shouted
at the top of his lungs. The sound of his laughter echoed through the deserted valley. Marik chuckled lightly.“Bakura? I’m sorry to inform you of this, but tomb robbers have already found this place. The
only treasure you’re going to find here is sand.”Bakura made a sour face and sighed.“Damn it. Why did you have to get me all turned on over nothing, Marik?”Marik turned to Bakura and ran the back of his long fingers over the thief’s pale cheek. Bakura closed his eyes and sighed.Marik slowly brought his face closer to Bakura’s and captured the tomb robbers lips in a greedy
kiss.Bakura moaned as Marik slipped his tongue into Bakura’s warm mouth.“Mmm...more”Marik brought his hands up and cupped Bakura’s cheeks. Strands of Bakura’s hair slid between
Marik’s fingers as they explored each other’s mouths. Bakura draped his arms around Marik’s
shoulders and pressed his body against the blond’s.“Does this turn you on?” Marik ask with a chuckle. He could feel Bakura’s growing arousal
pressing against his own.“A little” Bakura responded in a low, raspy voice.Marik smiled with satisfaction. Bakura slowly unzipped Marik’s tan colored cargo shorts and let them fall to his ankles. Marik
responded by duplicating Bakura’s actions. Bakura’s eyes filled with demonic lust. He reached out and grabbed Marik by the front of his
black sleeveless t-shirt and pulled him in closer. Both their bodies trembled with anticipation as
they stripped each other of their garments.
