Seto pov
Mokuba, my ototo, he's in my bed again. Oh, what am I going to do with him?
The older Kaiba brother sighed as he slipped off his long trench coat, followed by his shirt, then his pants. He almost snickered to see that Mokuba was pretending to beeep, eep, but his breath was not the study and even breathing of sleep, but one of a mischievous little brother playing opossum. He changed his boxers and slipped into bed as if he did not notice. He couldn't blame him for not wanting to be alone, not after the ordeal at"¦ no, don't think of it. That terrible emptiness that he had felt when sealed inside of the Shadow Realm wra wrapped his arm around his other, younger half and sighed. His brother was part of him, the onling ing he had in this world worth fighting for"¦ "¦well"¦ "¦almost.
He had stayed up late tonight, running more simulators, adjusting here, adding there. He wanted to get the correct results. The invitations for his tournament had already been sent out, and the Duelists were on their way. He wasn't worried about anyone but Yugi. He knew the rest would be simple. But with Obelisk in his deck and under his power, he couldn't possibly lose! He "“would- regain his title. And nothing stood in his way. At least this time"¦ "¦he wouldn't be blackmailed. Mokuba would stay safe inside the house this time.
He remembered his ototo telling him of how he had tried to Duel Yugi, to save the company. He would make a fin businessman when he was older. The thought of his little brother all grown up and wearing a suit, his hair trimmed short seemed suddenly funny. No, Mokuba would not be subjected to this hell called a business. There was nothing worse than un-loyal back stabbing employees.
He suddenly feared the thought of Mokuba growing up, growing away from him. But that was a selfish thought, to want to stay with his brother always. Mokuba would not be as cold as him, he had already learned to find friends, and in fact had befriended Yugi, much to Seto's dismay. But it was Yugi who had come to Seto's rescue in the VR game, and that was all thanks to Mokuba. The boy was all he had, all he had ever had. He felt his brother's breath even out in sleep finally and he brought his hand to his own necklace.
The locket, the one that he wore, and the one that Mokuba wore. The trinkets linked their souls, like the cards that had held them such a short time ago, the lockets did the same. Keeping them to each other's hearts every second of the day. He didn't want to think of a day that he would be sitting in his office typing and studying away, and there would be no Mokuba around to poke his head in and shyly ask for a game of Duel Monsters, or remind his brother that he had to eat or sleep. The things that he sometimes forgot when enthralled in his work.
Yawning, the older Kaiba brother finally gave into his exhaust and feel into a dreamless sleep. When he woke early the next morning, he rose slowly, not to wake his still sweetly slumbering brother. Slipping on a fresh pair of pants and a shirt, he carefully lifted Mokuba into his arms, and carried him into his own room. Placing a small kiss on his forehead, he walked to the doorway.
Back to work, and back to being alone. He looked over his shoulder, placing a hand on the doorframe. He didn't want to think of a day, when he couldn't see his brother's bright face, his innocence and mischief shinning in his eyes. The would always be close, no matter how far apart they were. But seeing was believing as they said. He didn't know who said that"¦"¦ it was stupid. He sighed, shrugged, and walked away. Now, to get to work.
