Chapter 2
The return of the Pharaoh
Grandpa Yugi slowly stepped in the house.
“Yugo,” He called out, “I brought you a sub. I hope…” Yugi stopped in his tracks as he stepped into the living room and saw his dark side of the millennium puzzle standing there with Yugo.
Yami turned to Yugi and smiled jauntily. Even after age had captured his once youthful soul-partner, he knew his light side better than anything.
“Yami,” Yugi breathed, “you’re back… You‘ve got a body,” he added surprised. Yugo blankly looked from his grandfather to this new person who had emerged from the crazy Egyptian puzzle.
“Well at least I’m not the only one seeing things,” Yugo mumbled while Yugi gently laughed.
“I see you’ve met my grandson Yugo,” Yugi said calmly, but his eyes saddened.
“Yami, why did you leave me?” Yugi asked. Yugo, seeing things had gone from strange to very personal and strange, took the sandwich Yugi had placed on the table and headed upstairs. Yami watched the younger boy leave.
“I see you fell in love with someone,” Yami murmured.
Yugi sighed. “You were locked in the puzzle and I couldn’t re-open it. Years went by… I met my wife. We got married and started a family. But Yami, that doesn’t mean I didn’t love you anymore.” Yugi explained gently as he sat down. Yami nodded in understanding.
“I understand Yugi.” And Yami sat beside his old friend. “And I never forgot about you, I still love you too,” Yami sighed, taking a look around the room. “How long have I been gone?” Yami asked.
“50 years,” Yugi murmured, looking up at Yami.
“What have I missed?” Yami asked, wanting to hear everything that had happened to his Aibougi ugi smiled.
“Well I was married at 26. Had two lovely children. Jason, my son, he would be 34 now, which is Yugo’s father. And my daughter Kate she’s now 26 and has three children; two beautiful twins, and a 7-year-old daughter.” Yugi explained.
Yami shifted slightly. “Why is your grandson living with you?”
“My son died three month ago. My daughter in-law didn’t want anything to do with Yugo…” Yugi said with a long sigh.
“I’m sorry to hear that,” Yami whispered and hugged his old friend.
“Yami, why did you have to leave? I felt so alone with out you,” Yugi repeated on the break of tears. Yami felt his heart break.
“I don’t know Yugi. I just don’t know,” Yami sighed.
Yugo stood at the top of the stairs. ‘What hell are they talking about?’ Yugo thought. ‘I’m so lost.’ He thought miserably as he walked into his room.
Yugo smiled at a family picture. Of course, as usual, he was making a face... he hadn’t wanted to be there. He had really wanted to go to a friends party. But now he wished he could go back to that day, before his dad started his new job, before he was killed saving that kid.
“Stupid kid,” Yugo mumbled.
His father was a cop and was working on looking for this kid that had gotten kidnapped. It was the day before his 15 birthday and Yugo’s father was called in, getting information on the child’s whereabouts. It was the next call that made his mother lose it. His father had died doing what he loved to do; keeping others safe.
Yugo punched the kid the next time he saw him. He didn’t care how much trouble he got into. He gave the kid a piece of his mind. The boy was thirteen and never listened to his mother about other people.
Yugo wasn’t like his father or grandfather for that matter. He was the type to be left alone. He knew how to fight. His mother’s father, before he passed away, taught him how to fight. Yugo didn’t pick fights but he finished them.
Yugo’s eye shot up as a knock came to the door. He grumbled, angry that he had been thrown so rudely out of his daydream. Yugo opened the door and turned back on his bed finding it was Yami, the thing that had came out of the puzzle.
“Figment of my imagination, what do you want?” Yugo asked.
Yami could plainly see the difference between Yugo and Yugi.
“I haven’t told you who I’m,” Yami retorted and Yugo raised an eyebrow.
“You’re a figment of my imagination,” Yugo repeated, “Or I’m just going insane.” Yugo added. Yami laughed a little, shaking his head and walking into the room a little.
“I’m real. My name is Yami, the Sprit of the Millennium Puzzle which you just put together,” Yami explained slowly. Yugo looked at Yami blankly.
“Oh, ok.” Yugo muttered sarcastically, “What else do you want?” Yugo added.
“To be your friend,” Yami said gently. Yugo laughed loudly as he turned to look at Yami.
“Friends? Now that’s funny,” Yugo said stopping his laughing abruptly. Yami crossed his arms, looking quite normal for himself.
“You have no friends? Are you that quiet like Yugi?” Yami asked. Yugo looked at Yami now annoyed.
“No, I don’t want friends. Now if you don’t mind, get out of my home. And take this, I don’t know why I grabbed it when I came up in the first place.” Yugo said throwing the Millennium Puzzle to Yami, who caught it in shock?
“But it is for you to wear. It will keep us together,” Yami explained.
“Ha-ha, no” Yugo said pushing the shocked Yami out of his room.
Yugi stood in the hallway. “And that’s Yugo for you. Give him a little time. He’s still not over his fathers death,” Yugi whispered, leading Yami to a guestroom.
“Why does he not want friends?” Yami asked. Yugi sighed.
“He had some trouble with so-called friends. It’s a long story. That should wait for morning,” Yugi said calmly and headed to his room. Yami sighed.
Yugi himself had changed. The love in side of him was gone from the once lovable boy. Well, it was there, but he had found a new love when Yami could never return. Yami slowly closed his door and lay down. He now had to think of why he was here again?
