Chapter 15
………………………………….
Marik sat silently on his throne, alone in the vast room, as he had ordered. His brow was deeply furrowed in serious thought as he sat there.
Ryou sat silently in his Nest, holding a cup of water in his hands. His eyes were glazed over as he stared off into space, obviously troubled.
Malik sat silently on his balcony, watching the star ships enter and leave the space port. He was frowning in a rapt contemplation.
Bakura sat in the council chamber on Yami's flagship, gazing out at the stars, fingers gently tapping the table as he simply allowed images to flash by his mind's eye.
Yami sat in his room, staring intently at a plant that was placed there for decoration. He was obviously concerned with some issue of great importance.
Yugi sat in his chair on the bridge of the flagship, ignoring the crew working around him. There was so much to think about, the boy's mind was spinning with it all.
Mokuba sat in his brother's room, watching Seto pace back and forth, deep in thought of the current situations that himself and the other monarchs were facing.
Joey sat on his bed, brushing his little sister's hair as she stared out the window. Both were deep in thought, neither even noticing the other's presence.
Otogi sat at his desk in his room, staring blankly at the computer screen before him, not paying attention to the document he was supposed to be reviewing.
Ishizu sat quietly in her room, before her computer console. Her fingers rested lightly on the keys, but whatever she was typing no longer held her attention.
And for a brief period of time, all knew peace. It was the calm before the storm......
..........................................................
Ryou blinked and looked up as the door opened, and in came Malik.
"Prince Malik?" Ryou asked, standing.
"Shhh.... I've been thinking, Ryou. You and my brother are... in love." Ryou blushed. "Marik is upset. He knows that with this war, your being together is impossible. And I'm sick of this war." Ryou nodded.
"So am I."
"I have a plan to end it."
"What?!"
"But I need your help."
"What do you need?"
"It's not going to be easy, Ryou."
"What are we going to do?" Ryou asked.
"We're going to run away."
"...... run away?"
"First things first... we have to get in touch with Prince Yugi."
"Yugi?"
"listen Ryou. Tell me now. Are you in or out."
"Whatever the plan... if it ends the war, I'm in."
"Great!!" Malik said, then ran over to the computer, keyed in some commands, and Ryou blinked as the collar fell from his neck. "Come on." And Malik grabbed Ryou's hand and pulled him through the secret passage to his room. Once there, Malik ran to his computer and began typing. A few minutes later, Yugi appeared on the screen.
"Hello?" The Sumerian prince said. Then, he gasped. "MALIK!! How did you get my personal line?!"
"Calm down, Prince Yugi." Malik said with a smile. "I contact you without malicious intent."
"Bullshit!!"
"Prince Yugi!!!" Ryou gasped in shock, havoing never heard Yugi use such language. Yugi blinked, and his eyes widened.
"PRINCE RYOU?!"
"Shhhh......" Malik hissed. "Yugi, this must be completely secret. Between the three of us." Yugi frowned.
"Yugi, Malik has a plan to end this war." Ryou said, and Yugi blinked.
"Huh?"
"It will take all three of us to pull it off... wait.... are Prince Mokuba and Princess Shizuka there?"
"Well.... down the hall......"
"Get them in on this!"
"Umm..... okay...." Yugi said slowly, and disappeared.
"Malik, what's going on?" Ryou asked, seeing Malik was very excited. A moment later, Shizuka and Mokuba followed Yugi into the picture.
"Okay, we're here, Malik. What do you want?"
"I want this war to end peacefully." Malik said. "And for us all to win. And I think I know how to do it. Do you want this?"
"Yes." Said Yugi.
"Of course!" Mokuba agreed.
"Can we really end this war in peace?" Shizuka asked, hopefully. Malik nodded. Mokuba grinned.
"If you really think so, we're with you!! If our brothers can't do it, then we have to step in, ne?" Mokuba said, and all the others agreed.
"What's the plan, Malik?" Yugi asked, eagerly. Malik grinned.
"We're going to run away and hold ourselves hostage!" Malik said, and they all blinked.
"........... what?" Shizuka said.
"Yugi, can you, Mokuba and Shizuka get away and meet me and Ryou somewhere? I'll send the co-ordinates...."
"Malik, what are you planning?!" Yugi asked.
"Like I said... we run away, hold ourselves hostage, and the ransom is peace!!"
"You mean.... we refuse to return until there is peace?" Ryou gasped, and Malik nodded.
"You know.... that's just crazy enough to work!" Mokuba said.
"Our brothers will do anything to get us back...." Malik said. "So... if I can get Ryou and myself off planet, can you all meet us?" Yugi, Mokuba and Shizuka looked at each other, and grinned.
"We're with you! Where are we meeting?!" Yugi asked.
"Wait until you're away. Can you be ready to contact me in three hours?"
"Sure."
"Okay. Here's the signal of the ship I'll be using. Contact me in three hours, and we'll agree on a meeting place."
"You got it, Malik! I hope this works!!!"
"We all do, Yugi. See you soon." And the transmission was ended. Malik looked at Ryou.
"We must move now. Are you ready?" He asked. Ryou took a deep breath.
"Yes. Let's do it." He said. Malik grinned and ran to his closet, flinging it open and pulling out two long hooded cloaks. He flung one around his shoulders and draped the other over Ryou.
“Ryou…. It’s going to be hard getting you out….”
“I know.”
“I’ll try my best.”
“…….. I trust you.” Ryou said, and Malik grinned, pulling up his hood.
“Aren’t we going to…. Pack?”
“No.” Malik said. “We go NOW.”
“….. Okay.” Ryou said, and followed Malik over back into the secret passage between Malik and Marik’s rooms. They got halfway through, and then Malik tapped one of the small lights on the wall. The panel on the wall opened.
“A secret passage in a secret passage?”
“Yep.” Malik said, and they ran along the passage. The passage ended in the garden. Malik led Ryou into the garage and hopped on a hover bike, Ryou climbing on behind. They sped out of the garage and through the gates of the palace grounds, the guards waving.
“….. that was easy….” Ryou said, and Malik grinned.
“Yep.” They raced through the streets towards the space port.
“Halt! Identify yourself!” A guard ordered, and Malik slowed and removed his hood. “A good day to you, Prince Malik. Smooth flying!”
“Thanks!” Malik said with a grin, and waved. Ryou hid his face in Malik’s shoulder so as not to bee seen.
“What’s that with you?” The guard asked, and Ryou tensed.
“Oh, just someone to keep me from getting….. lonely…….” Malik said, patting Ryou’s thigh. The guard laughed.
“I see. Enjoy.”
“Oh. I will.” Malik said with a sinister grin, making the guard laugh and let him by. Ryou let out a sigh of relief. Malik pulled up to a small star ship, and went straight up the ramp. There, he and Ryou climbed off, and Malik tossed the hover bike down, before closing the door.
“Now what?”
“Now we get out of here.” Malik said, turning and heading for the cockpit.
“Is there a crew?”
“No. I can handle this baby on my own. You know how to fly?”
“A bit…”
“Good. Then you can help me. Come on!” And the pair ran through the metal corridors to the cockpit. Malik plopped into the pilot seat, and Ryou took co-pilot. Malik grinned at Ryou, who returned it, nervously.
“Gods… my heart is POUNDING.” Malik said with a nervous laugh.
“Well, technically, we are committing a crime of treason……” Ryou said, and Malik glared.
“Oh, yeah, no pressure.” Malik grumbled, and Ryou laughed.
“Prince Malik…. If it ends the war, it’s worth it.”
“Yes. It is. And… it’s just Malik, Ryou. We’re friends now, aren’t we?” Malik said, and Ryou smiled and nodded.
“Yes. Yes we are. Well…. Let’s go meet Yugi and the others.”
“Right!” Malik said and turned, pressing buttons. “Ryou, everything operating correctly?”
“We’re good to go, Malik!”
“Great! Lifting off. SHIT! DUCK!!” And Ryou rolled out of his chair as a face appeared on a monitor.
“Prince Malik? You’re leaving?” The officer said, and Malik nodded.
“5-7-7, command.”
“10-4 Prince Malik. What’s your destination’s 20?”
“Code Blue, Command.”
“Very well. I’ll wipe the log of your departure.”
“10-4.”
“Good luck, Prince Malik. Stay safe.”
“Thanks, command. Over and out.”
“You’re cleared for departure.”
“10-4.” And the screen went black. Ryou sat up as the ship lifted off of the ground, and turned. The boosters fired, and the ship lurched forwards. Ryou squealed as he slid back across the floor and out into the corridor. Malik blinked and looked back, laughing as he saw Ryou sliding down the hall, and disappear around the curve.
“MAAAAALIIIIIIIK!!!!” Ryou’s voice wailed, and Malik laughed again, hitting the accelerators, flinging them out of the planet’s atmosphere and on their way. Malik set the co-ordinates and set the ship on autopilot, then wandered down the hall, finding Ryou tangled up in netting in the cargo hold. Malik laughed and knelt, helping Ryou out.
“You could have told me to hold on.” He grumped, and Malik grinned.
“Sorry.” He said, and both looked up at a beeping noise. “That must be Yugi.” And the pair returned to the cockpit, answering the call.
“Prince Malik, we’re under way.”
“Great. So are we!” Malik said. “Can you meet us at these co-ordinates?” And Malik sent them.
“Can do, Malik. I think we’ll get there first… we’ll dock in Kadina’s orbit.”
“Okay. What size are you in.”
“We have a Comet Cruiser.”
“Okay, we’re in an old Asteroid Explorer, so we will be joining you on your ship.”
“I welcome your presence.” Yugi said with a smile and a bow.
“See you soon!”
“Over and out!!”
