Chapter 15
Pirate’s Day Off
Ryou was woken after a nap by Yami. The Pirate King smiled at the boy, and helped him up.
“Come. The others are busy, so you will be spending some time with me this afternoon. Mikado took your measurements while you were asleep and we found some clothes in storage that were your size. Get dressed, and I’ll take you for a tour.” Ryou obeyed, and soon found himself following the pirate through a maze of stone tunnels.
“Is there anything in particular that you’d like to see?” Yami asked. “Just name it, and we will—“
“YOU HAVE TO SLEEP!!!!” A door banged open and Mikado chased Ahmose out of a room.
“Mika, I’m busy. I don’t have time to sleep.”
“You’ve hardly slept at all, Ahmose!”
“I can sleep when I’m dead.” The taller boy snarled, and flung open another door and stormed in. Mikado followed.
“If you don’t get some sleep, you’ll be the LIVING dead!!!” The boy shouted, and slammed the door. Yami chuckled.
“That’s normal. They always bicker like that. Come on. Let’s go before Mikado hits Ahmose over the head and knocks him out.”
“Knocks him…. Out?”
“Yes. Ahmose is notorious for not sleeping. So Mikado has often hit him over the head and locked him in his room for a few days until he feels that Ahmose has rested enough. If we don’t hurry, we’ll be drafted into carrying Ahmose to his room.” Yami grabbed Ryou, grinning, and pulled him down the hall.
“And this is… normal?”
“Yes.”
“….. I see.”
“Yami! Hey!!” Both looked as Mokuba ran over. Ryou frowned a bit at the boy, not forgetting what Mokuba had done.
“Yes, Mokuba?”
“He’s alive!”
“Yes, he’s alive.” Yami chuckled, winking at Ryou.
“That’s great! Anyway, I was supposed to give you…. This….. ummmm……… uh-oh……..” Mokuba trailed off, searching his pockets. “I, uh, I left it on Seto’s table.” Yami laughed as Mokuba scampered off.
“Put it on my desk!” Yami called after the boy, and led Ryou along and into an enormous cavern that was filled with water from the sea. In it, was a ship that dozens of men and women were working on. Mai and Ishizu were directing them around.
“Mai!”
“Yami! Hello!” Mai called, then turned to bitch at a man that had dropped something.
“The ship looks good.”
“I would hope so.” Ishizu said. “Mai is being incredibly picky.”
“I am not, Ishizu.”
“Yes you are.”
“Hush.”
“You have a harbor in the cliff?” Ryou finally gasped, then squeaked as the female pirates pounced on him, squealing and cooing over him.
“Oh, he’s okay!”
“He’s so cute!”
“Your bandages are off!”
“Where are you off to?” They gushed, and Ryou gulped.
“Ummmmm……..” He stammered, and blushed, which made the women squeal again, before planting a kiss on either cheek. Ryou turned even brighter and Yami laughed at the lipstick on the boy’s face.
“Come on, Ryou. We’re going to watch your friends dive for pearls.”
“We are?!”
“Yes. Let’s go.”
“Okay!” Ryou chirped, and scurried excitedly after the Pirate King, making the other pirates working around them smile. They strode out of the cavern, along the beach, and finally onto the wooden dock where Marik was standing, buck naked and soaking wet. After a moment, Malik and Yugi climbed onto the dock, also buck naked and soaking wet, and each carrying a large oyster.
“Alright, here are your knives.” Marik said, passing the two boys a knife. “Stick the knife in like this.” He demonstrated, and the pair copied him. “Slit the muscle that holds the shell closed. Good, open it and fold back as much of the membrane as you can.”
“Ewwwww!!!” Squealed Yugi. Malik made a face and Marik grinned.
“Now, poke it, feel it, until you feel a pearl inside of it. There may be more than one. Malik, you found yours in a black sand deposit, correct?”
“Yes.”
“Then your pearl should be black.”
“Cool!”
“OOH! I feel one!” Yugi exclaimed.
“Oh! Me too!” Malik cried, and Marik grinned.
“Good. Now, cut the muscle carefully, and fold back the layers until you uncover the pearl.” The three boys began to work. Soon enough, Marik snorted. “See?” He showed them the dissected oyster, and the pearl he had uncovered. “It’s perfect, too. We’ll give thee to the resident pearl expert, and she’ll handle them.”
“I found mine!” Malik cried.
“Wow! That’s a big one!” Marik said, looking at the large marble sized black pearl.
“I have two!” Yugi exclaimed, holding out two pearls, one the size of a pea, one the size of a BB.
“Having fun running around naked?” Ryou asked.
“We’re not running around naked.” Malik said with a grin, and Marik stood.
“Yeah. We’re pearl diving!” He said, and dove into the water again with his knife in his teeth.
“We’re Skinny Dipping!!!” Yugi squealed, and followed Marik, Malik close behind. Yami laughed as they disappeared beneath the waves.
“They love everything about this island.” The Pirate King said, and motioned Ryou to follow him. Ryou stared as they approached three large ships. One, he recognized as the Black Magician. One, a dark green with rich red trimming, was called the Shadow Ghoul. And a dark blue ship sported the name Relinquished.
“This is Ahmose and Mikado’s ship. And this one belongs to Pegasus. How’s it coming, Otogi?!” He called, and Ryou saw Otogi up to his chest in the water, doing something to the bow of the Shadow Ghoul.
“Fine! The damage wasn’t as extensive as Ahmose originally thought. We’ve done well. You cant’ even find the spot of railing that had to be rebuilt. The Relinquished needs a new mast, though. We have some guys working on one now.”
“And how is that other ship coming?”
“Which one?”
“The one that Shadi is overseeing the construction of.”
“The one in that cave?” Ryou asked.
“No.” Yami said with a smile. “Never mind, Otogi. I’ll see for myself. Come on, Ryou.” And he ran off, eagerly pulling Ryou behind him. “We’re building another ship. I wanted Seto to captain it when it’s finished, but of course he refuses, so Shadi will.”
“You’re making yourself a fleet.”
“You could say that.” Yami said with a grin, and they ran into another cave. This had a cove inside. Most of the cave was taken up by a black sand beach, with enough room for two ships to moor inside.
“We had to break an opening big enough for the ships to get in and out, but we construct new ships here, and work on those that are so damaged that we must remove them from the water to repair.” Ryou stared at the large half constructed ship that sat on the sand, men all over it.
“Wow.” He said. A man who had the same skin tone as Marik came over, a white cloth wound around his head like a turban.
“The construction is coming along quickly, Pharaoh.” The man said.
“Excellent. You plans were well drawn out, Shadi.” Yami said. “I’ve given up on Seto. So I want you to captain it.”
“It is an honor, Yami.” Shadi said with a slight smile and bow.
“What will you christen her?”
“Celtic Guardian.” Shadi said. (AN: ^_^ SQUEEEEE!!!! CELTIC GUARDIAN!!!)
“I like that.” Yami said, thinking a moment. “Oh, by the way, this is Ryou. Ryou, this is Shadi.” Ryou smiled and nodded, while Shadi simply nodded, then looked back at the ship. “Let’s go, Ryou.” Yami said, and Ryou followed him out of the cave. They saw Malik and Yugi back on the dock with Marik, cutting open more oysters, and Otogi climbing out of the water.
“You’re both idiots.” A familiar icy voice said, and Ryou and Yami turned to see Seto leaning against a door, and apparently talking to it. After a pause, he smirked. “This is the third time today, Jono. How many more times are you planning on locking yourself in there?” There was a pause in which they could hear Jono shouting, but couldn’t understand what he was saying. “So Tris isn’t with you this time? Good. At least one of you has some sense…………. No, I think I’ll let you stay in there for a while. Maybe you’ll be more careful when you close the door.”
“Seto! Let Jono out!” Yami laughed, and Seto looked up, then grinned.
“Why? This will be the third time today!” Seto said, and Yami laughed.
“Are you serious? Jono! You’re hopeless!!”
“Yami?!” Jono called. “That you?! LET ME OUT!!!” The Pirate King laughed and unlocked the door, allowing the blonde pirate to leave the storage room. Jono thanked him and glared at Seto, before finally laying his eyes on Ryou. He grinned.
“Hey! The kid’s okay!” He exclaimed.
“So we see.” Seto drawled, giving Ryou a cold glare. He apparently had not forgotten Ryou’s vicious words to Mokuba. Ryou shivered under the glare, and lowered his gaze to the ground. Yami noticed this.
“Seto… What has Ryou done to piss you off?” He asked, and Seto strode over to Ryou, who cowered on the spot as he stood in the shadow of the tall pirate.
“He threatened my brother.” He snarled.
“No!” Ryou gasped.
“Somehow, I doubt that.” Yami stated, flatly. Seto’s lip curled as he seized the front of Ryou’s shirt and nearly lifted him off of his feet.
“I don’t care.” Seto snarled, glaring into the frightened brown eyes. “I do not like people upsetting Mokuba.” And he shoved Ryou back onto the ground and stormed away. Jono ran to Ryou and lifted him to his feet.
“I told ya it was bad to get on Seto’s bad side.” He said, and Ryou gulped and nodded. “Hey Yami, the kid’s shaking. He’s probably had enough action for today.”
“I agree. Ahmose says he can leave the hospital now. We’ll put him in Bakura’s room.” Ryou’s eyes widened at this.
“Alright. I’ll take him up there if ya like.” Jono offered.
“Fine. Looks like I’m needed anyway.” Yami said, looking over across the beach to where Otogi was dangling upside down by his ankle, which had been snagged by a rope that Tris had dropped. Otogi was now dangling high above the water, and Tris couldn’t seem to figure out how to get him down. Jono laughed as Yami ran to assist the livid upside-down pirate.
“C’mon, kid.” Jono said, and Ryou followed him back into the cliff side.
“D-do I have to go to Bakura’s room?” Ryou asked.
“Still scared of him, eh?”
“……………”
“He won’t hurt you. And Malik is sharing a room with Marik and Yugi with Yami.”
“Can’t I stay with you or something?”
“I share a room with Tris. Trust me, you won’t want to share a room with us. Most everyone has a roommate. ‘Cept Bakura now. You’re stayin with him. You’re in his charge now that Ahmose has released you from his.” Jono explained, as he opened a black door with white kanji painted on it. Ryou had no clue what it said.
Bakura’s room was much like his bed on the Black Magician. It was done in a Japanese style, all black and white. The floor was black, and the walls were done in white panels, framed in black. The door that led to his own private balcony was a sliding door. It was white with black strips running vertically and horizontally, like a Japanese screen, and the windows on either side of the door were the same. A white rug sat in the middle of the room and on this sat a black table that one had to kneel before. A small bonsai tree sat in the middle of it. A white bed that looked to be no more than a mattress on the floor sat in the corner. The walls were covered with various weapons, mostly Japanese swords.
“Here’s Bakura’s room.” Jono said, leading Ryou in. “Oh, hey! Mikado sent your clothes in!” He said, looking at a note on the table. “They’re in the right side of the wardrobe.” Jono said, and pointed out the black wardrobe in the corner that Ryou had missed. “Well, this is your home as long as you’re on the island. Make yourself at home. Relax. Bakura will be in this evening.” And Jono left Ryou standing in the middle of the room. Ryou looked around, and gulped.
Finally, he turned and headed to the balcony to see what kind of view Bakura had. He opened the door and gasped. A small patio was there and sat in a fair sized nook in the face of the cliff. The water fall that Ryou had seen tumbling down the cliff had come from here. Several small waterfalls tumbled down the face of the cliff and into a fair sized pool. It drained into a small creek bed about ten yards long before dropping over the edge of the cliff. It was like Bakura had his own private garden outside of his room.
Ryou stepped out and looked at the variety of plant life, including tropical ferns, vines and creepers, and bunches of fluffy pink flowers that grew from on of the few trees on the ledge. He smiled at the strelitzia that grew all over the place. (AN: strelitzia is a flower more commonly known as the Bird of Paradise flower) He turned to the ledge and gazed out at the view Bakura had of the lagoon. He could make out Marik climbing out of the water with another oyster, and Yami still trying to get Otogi down. He wondered where Bakura was…
Then he grunted. Bakura wasn’t there with him, and that was all that mattered to him. The seemingly uncaring pirate made him nervous. Ryou returned inside, but left the door open. He went over to the bed and lay down on it, staring out at the partial view of the lagoon, and the sea beyond. Slowly, he drifted to sleep.

I did a watercolor of a part of Bakura’s little garden with Ryou and Bakura in it. You can see it on Ryou-Bakura’s site. Hope you’re liking BS!!! ::snicker:: BS…. That’s funny…….. ^_^
