Chapter 14: The Gods’ Tail
Yami lie in his bed, his hand stroking the arm of his love facing him. Yugi was asleep. After Isis deemed Yugi well enough to leave the healing vicinity, Yugi was very exhausted and tired to they both retired back to the bedroom. They hadn’t left it too much since.
It had been a few days and that was time Yami used to think.
‘I almost lost him that day. The Gods’ luck was greatly upon us but is it over? Does it end here?’
“Penny for your thoughts?”
Yami looked into Yugi’s, now awake, face and smiled.
“It’s nothing too much. I just hope this is all over now.”
Yugi sighed.
“Unfortunately, I don’t think it is.”
“Why do you say that?”
“Well, while I was unconscious, I conversed with the gods.”
“You what?” Yami asked, shocked.
“I was talking with the gods and they told me the reason they were doing this was to test and prove that we were capable, to their standards, of having the prophesized child of legend. When they let me return, they told me that that was not to be the last time that I would see them.”
“Well, do you know when you will see them next?” Yami asked.
Yugi shook his head.
“No, they didn’t say.”
“Well, let’s not think on that too much. You still look very tired. You need some more rest.”
“You don’t look any better,” Yugi smiled.
Yami laughed.
“Alright. I guess I could do for some sleep, too.”
Yugi snuggled closer to the Pharaoh and fell asleep in his lover’s arms.
**DREAMLAND**
“Yami…Yami, wake up.”
Yami groaned and twitched his eyes.
“Yami, come on…wake up.”
Yami opened his eyes to see Yugi shaking him.
“Yugi?”
“Finally. You sure are a deep sleeper.”
“Where are we?” Yami asked as he sat up and looked around himself.
They were both in a field neither had seen before.
‘I’m not entirely certain, but I am pretty sure that we’re in a dream.’
“You could take that as true or false. Either way, you are both here and that is all that matters.”
‘Who’s that?’ Yami asked as he grabbed Yugi and pushed him behind himself as protection.
‘Ra?’
Yami looked at Yugi’s curious face.
“Yes, I am the king of gods, Ra. I have brought you, Yugi, here for a second time but this occasion in the presence of your lover, the Pharaoh. My greetings to you, descendent of the flesh of gods.”
‘This has to be a dream. Could I really be speaking to Ra, himself?’ Yami asked.
A light illuminated in front of their eyes as a figure started to form. It was tall and broad with an air of the highest of royalty. As the figure took more color and further shape, it was better recognizable as a man’s body. His skin was a caramel color making it shone with the sun. He wore no shoes nor shirt, two wrap-around bands on his upper arms, pants that started at a rope on his hips, showing off his well toned torso, and flowed down his long legs, slits on the outer edges, and tightly wrapping around both ankles. On his head laid nothing but a simple golden circlet that indicated his authority. His eyes, a golden amber, shone with such brilliance as his hair, a beautiful golden brown, swayed with the on blowing wind.
“I have much to tell you both and there is little time to do so.”
Yami and Yugi both looked upon the man with utter brilliance and awe at his stamina and stature and beauty.
“First, I must congradulate you, Yugi, on your curouge and strength to keep alive yourself and your child.”
Yugi blushed as he looked down. ‘T-thank you.’
Ra nodded as he chuckled.
“So much for the good news.” His face fell. “Now comes the ill-hearted hearsay on which regards you and your past.”
Yami blinked and looked back to Yugi who had paled.
‘Your past?’ Yami asked.
Yugi’s fear was utterly evident.
‘What about my past must we know?’
Ra paused.
“Everything. From the moment you were born to the time you died.”
‘Died?!’ Yami yelled. ‘Died? With all due respects, are you mad? He is standing right before you. He can not have died.’
“True he stands before you, alive and well, but it is also true that , for a time, his heart did not beat. You will see in due time.”
Ra waved his hand and Yugi suddenly dropped to the ground in a quick scream of pain.
‘Yugi! No! What have you done to him?!’ Yami yelled as he knelt next to his lover.
“He is going back to relive his own life.”
‘No! Yugi! Say something! Please!’ Yami pleaded as he held Yugi in his arms.
Then, Yugi’s body started to shrink smaller and smaller.
‘Wha…what’s happening?’
Yugi then shrunk to an infant and vanished.
‘No…Yugi! Where are you? Where is he? Where did you take him?!’
“See for yourself.”
Ra turned to look behind himself and saw the landscape turn to a little shack in Egypt. A young woman with violet hair and natural blond highlights sat holding a baby in her arms rocking it side to side. Standing before her was a tall man with jet black hair ticking out in all directions.
‘What is this? Who are they?’ Yami asked.
“These are Yugi’s parents and the little one is…”
‘Yugi?’
Ra smiled and turned back to the scene.
“Jacob, isn’t he wonderful? He’s so precious and adorable,” the woman cooed to her son.
“Yes. He truly is a gift from the stars above, Safiya. He is our miracle child.”
The woman pressed the baby’s cheek against her own.
“My precious, little Yugi.”
Then, loud screams came from the outside. Safiya held her child close to her breast in fear.
“Stay here!” Jacob demanded as he stormed to the door.
“Jacob!”
He about faced.
“…be careful.”
He walked back up to his wife and kissed her lovingly. As they parted her looked into her eyes and whispered,
“Stay.”
He was gone.
Safiya ran to the back door and looked out the crack to see her neighbors, friends and some family being slaughtered by evil raiders. She gasped and covered her mouth as the baby stared to cry loudly.
“Shush, child. We can’t be heard, for your father’s sake.”
“I do believe it is too late for that, wench.”
She looked up to see her door get swung open, three men standing in the door way, the leading man with two differently colored eyes: one green, one blue.
They grabbed her by her hair as she screamed. The man with the discolored eyes took the baby from her arms.
“NO! PLEASE! DON’T HURT HIM! I BEG YOU! SPARE HIM!”
The man looked into the child’s face, full of horror and sadness. He looked at the woman and jerked his head to the side.
One of the other men used his blade to slice her throat.
Jacob ran into the door.
“Safiya! I heard you scream and…”
He looked down to see her corps and cried out.
“YOU BASTARDS!”
He charged at the lead man who unsheathed his sword just in time to ram it into Jacob’s belly. Jacob looked into his son’s eyes.
“I’m sorry, Yugi…We’ve failed……Please…forgive us…”
He fell to the ground, not breathing.
The murderer looked down into the infant’s eyes and smiled.
“Well, Yugi. You’re a fine prize to have won.”
Yami had a face of disgust.
‘Is this his true past?’
Ra nodded.
“I’m afraid it is. Ironic how one so pure can bare such a tragic past. Unfortunately, there is more.”
The scene faded into a mud made house, men of all ages and shapes carousing and making marry…in their own sick way.
They cheered and hollered and cat-called as they pushed a ten year old Yugi around the room.
‘What is this?!’
“This is his early childhood.”
‘You can’t be serious!’
Yami was forced to watched Yugi get beaten, touched and taken advantage of numerous amounts of times.
Yami was on the floor on his knees bawling.
‘Please…no more…I can’t take it…please…let him be. He needs not know more of his past. Please.’
Ra sighed.
“I am deeply sorry but there is one more you must see for you to truly understand.”
Again, the background changed and they were in another mud house.
Two people were bound by rope to a pole back to back, gagged.
Yugi rushed in and closed the door quickly behind himself.
“Quick!” he whispered.
“You must leave! You can’t stay. They’re going to kill you tomorrow morning as sacrifice to the god Anubis.”
Yugi undid the knots and shooed the girl and young boy out into the night. Just as he was to leave himself, he rammed into a solid form and was knocked back to his bottom.
“Why you little trader!” The man yelled. He grabbed Yugi by his wrist and pushed him outside into the sand.
“This little crap has just let free our sacrifices!” he yelled to the surrounding others who yelled in anger.
“The little bastard!”
“What will we do to him?!”
“Let’s kill ‘im!”
Garth stepped up and kicked him in his side.
‘No!’
Yami started to run but Ra caught him by the shoulder. Yami looked back in time to see Ra shake his head slowly.
“You have just walked on my last nerve, boy.”
He kicked Yugi again as he screamed.
Yami closed his eyes and looked away.
Garth then picked Yugi up by his hair.
“We must teach this boy about stealing amongst brothers! You take from me…”
“I take from you!” the men chorused together.
They crowded around him and started kicking and punching and used blades of all shapes and sharpness at his flesh.
‘YUGI!’ Yami broke free from Ra’s hold and ran at the mob.
‘GET AWAY FROM HIM, DAMN YOU!’
Yami started to shove but they all gave without resistance.
He, confused, opened his eyes to see he was on the other side of the riot.
‘I passed right through them!’
“They are not truly there,” Ra informed. “This is but a memory of the past.”
Then men pushed Yugi from the shouting to be alone in the waters of the Nile. He heaved and coughed and groaned.
Garth stood above him.
“You bastard. I took you in, showed you are ways and you repay us by this act of foolishness. Let your body rot in hell!”
Garth raised a dagger to bring heavily down on the victim.
Yami, out of pure fury, forgot completely about the memory and ran in front of Yugi. The knife came down and went through Yami’s body and right into Yugi’s right chest. He let out a blood curtailing scream. Garth brought the knife towards himself baking the wound longer and Yugi scream louder.
‘STOP!’ Yami yelled. He watched as Yugi body floated away, bloody and unmoving.
Yami ran out into the water to Yugi. He stretched his arms out and cradled the broken body.
‘I…I can hold him…’
He brought Yugi up closer to himself.
‘Yugi…wake up…it’s over…’
Yugi struggled but opened his eyes.
‘Yami…I remember everything…it’s like a chest was opened inside my mind. I remember it all.’
‘I’m just happy you’re alright.’
Yami had tears streaming down his cheeks as he smiled.
The scene changed, once more, back to where they started. Yugi was on the ground, again his stomach round, and Yami kneeled next to him, holding his close. The blood was gone and the wounds healed back to scars.
“You have now seen what your past holds. You are no longer a mystery to yourself.”
Yugi and Yami stood as they looked at Ra coming toward them.
‘Thank you, Ra,” Yugi said. ‘I do not regret this. My past is very painful and upsetting…but I do not regret one bit of it. Because if I had not floated down the river, I never would have been as happy as I am now.’
He looked up into Yami face. Yami smiled back lovingly as he held Yugi’s hands.
He leaned down and kissed Yugi affectionately.
Ra smiled and nodded.
“Farewell, young ones. I wish you great happiness and luck in your futures.”
The area turned bright yet again as they broke the kiss in their bed embracing eachother.
