Chapter 13: Final Decision
Yami sat with his head downcast, looking at the floor. It had been about nineteen hours since Yugi had announced that he was offered to leave.
Yami was actually taking the situation quite well considering the amount he had placed upon his shoulders.
‘What am I going to do if he does choose to leave?’ he asked himself.
‘I don’t know what will become of me. I’ve already hurt myself by leaving and I tried to correct that by coming back but if he leaves…I know that I will surely never see him again. I wouldn’t be able to bare that.’
“Man! I can’t stand this anymore!” yelled Joey standing up, hands in fists.
“I can’t stand all this waiting! It’s driving me crazy!”
“Joey, please calm down,” said Ryou in a hushed voice.
“I won’t calm down! It’s been a whole day! Yugi must have decided by now! Do you think he’s going to tell us his choice? Or will he just skip town with out a final farewell?!”
“No, Yugi isn’t like that,” said Duke.
“He wouldn’t just leave without any kind of good-bye. It’s not like him.”
“He has a point,” said Bakura.
“The little pest wouldn’t just leave. He doesn’t know how…unlike ‘someone’ we know.”
Marik coughed into his hand.
“CaughcoughYAMIcaugh.”
The said man just slumped deeper into his chair.
“Marik!” scolded Malik.
“That wasn’t very nice.”
“Neither is he.”
“Okay, let’s just stop this,” said Tristan standing in the middle of the crowded room.
“This is getting us nowhere. I think that we should all just calm ourselves down and…”
‘DING DONG!’
“I’ll get it!” Joey shouted as he ran past his friends and to the door.
As he opened it, he saw a head covered in tri-colored hair.
“Yugi!” he yelled.
“We was just talkin’ about ya’z. Come on in. What’s up?”
Yugi nodded his thanks and stepped through silently.
‘Oh, geeze. This can’t be good’ the blond thought as he closed the door.
Yugi entered the room that was occupied by all his ‘friends’.
“Good afternoon,” he started as he bowed, which took everyone by surprise. They were all friends here…right?
“As I’m sure Joey has told you, I have been offered a seat next to my cousin, Eijiro, as he studies abroad. I have been thinking on it the last several hours and I have finally come to a decision…”
Everyone, but no one more than Yami, took in and held a silent breath as they listened for the said response that just might change their lives forever.
“I have decided…to go with him along his journey.”
Everyone’s face was then, either horror struck or they were just to plainly shocked to create another facial expression than what they presently wore…
Yami however…
“Yug, are you sure about this?” Joey asked quietly.
Yugi nodded.
“Yes. I’ve already packed my bags and will be leaving for the pier in about three hours. I just wanted…to…you know…say…good bye, I guess.”
The others stood there, still trying to digest the information that their minds refused to accept.
“I’d best be leaving,” said Yugi as he looked to the ground.
“I still have a few things that need to be settled before I can go.”
He turned to and let himself out. But before he fully left the house, he turned his head and whispered…
‘…good-bye forever, Yami…I’m so sorry.’
**
Solomon sat with his friend, Professor Arthur Hopkins, as he expressed what he thought on the matter.
“Well, seems that everyone here is in quite the predicament.”
“Yes,” said Solomon glumly.
“Yugi actually chose to leave. I didn’t think he would go through with this but he did! He did, Arthur!”
“Yes, I know, old friend. And I’m sorry.”
“He’s leaving, Arthur. What am I going to do without the only family I have left?”
Arthur sighed.
“Well, I can only say this. What he sees is different from what you see.”
Solomon’s expression sowed his confusion.
“What I mean, Solomon, is that you know fine and well that everything that happened, Sena giving Yugi that fake letter, the lie that Yami was going back to America with his new girlfriend, what Ramrik attempted to do…you see these as unfortunate events that just happened to coincide with each other. But to Yugi, they are all…omens, if you will, that something is not right, that Yami no longer really loves him, and that he is no longer destined to be here in Domino. As I recall, Yugi does not believe in accidents but fate instead.”
Solomon looked at his friend.
“By gods. You’re right!”
Solomon then stood as he ran as fast as his old legs could carry him.
“Wait! Where are you going?”
“To save Yugi from making the biggest mistake of his life!”
**
Joey stood outside on the side walk in his grief until he heard the loud sound of someone calling his name.
“Joey! Joey, down here!”
The boy looked up to see an old man running to him, exhausted.
“Gramps! What’s up? Where’s the fire?”
“Yugi is making a huge mistake!”
“What?!”
“Yugi thinks that he ‘has’ to leave because he doesn’t belong here anymore and that he has no future! He has it all wrong! He thinks that Yami doesn’t love him anymore! Yugi does love him in return! He can’t leave, don’t you see?”
“Yeah, I get it! But…”
Joey looked down at his watch.
“…it’s already 4:00! How are we gonna make it to the pier in one hour on foot?!”
“I don’t know but we better think of something…quick!”
“Hey, Joey,” said Malik as he and the others came out of the small store.
“Hello, Solomon,” greeted Mai.
“Why do you guys look so spazed out?”
“We can’t explain right now!” yelled Joey.
“We have to get to the pier, now!”
“Why?” asked Ryou.
“I’ll explain later! We gotta go!”
Then Joey started down the sidewalk…until he saw a black limozine with small flags on both sides baring the letters
‘KC’ which could only mean one thing…
Joey ran out in front of the on coming vehicle, his hands firmly at his side as it came to a skidding halt less than a foot in front of him.
The driver leaned out the window.
“What are you crazy?! You want me to kill you?!”
“Is Seto Kaiba in there?”
The driver looked suspicious.
“Who wants to know?”
Then the back door opened as Seto stepped out.
“What do you want, mutt?”
Joey then marched over to the man, grabbed him by the collar and stared at him right in the eye, growling.
“Now you listen and you listen good, money bags. ‘Cus I ain’t got time for your bull-shit! You are gonna take me and the others to the pier right here and now, understood?”
“Why should I?” asked Kaiba with a scorn.
“Because I don’t really think you want the guilt of keeping two star-crossed lovers such as Yugi and Yami apart on your conscience for the rest of your gods given life!”
Seto glared down at the man in front of him before jerking his head toward his car.
“Get in.”
Yami had gone over to Yugi’s house…well, his old house.
The other yamis, now feeling a little guilty for him,
(Kirie321: the yamis? Guilty?! X.X)
followed him. Yami walked up the stairs and into Yugi’s room, closed and locked the door leaving the two other spirits out.
“Fine! Be that way Baka! Wallow in your self pity alone, for all I care.”
“Marik, we really should try and comfort him. Imagine what you would be like if ‘your’ hikari were leaving for good.”
Marik could only growl.
“Fine. But I’m only doing it because I’m board.”
“As long as you do it.”
Yami stood in the bare room.
‘He’s…he’s leaving me. I feel sick. I don’t think I can ralf any more though. Is this what it was like for Yugi when I left? Oh Gods, I’m so sorry, aibou. I didn’t mean to cause you this much pain. I love you so much. I don’t want be without you anymore. I can’t…And I won’t.’
Yami placed one of his hands on the puzzle that was wrapped around his neck.
**
“Come on! Doesn’t this bucket go any faster?!” yelled Joey as he was practically jumping out of his skin.
“Cool it, Wheeler!” scolded Kaiba.
“Unless you want us to get a ticket and get us even further behind schedule, I suggest you sit down and shut-up. This little ‘joy ride’ that I am very graciously giving you is making me miss a very important meeting I had planned that was going to make Kaiba Corp…”
“Can it!” Joey again shouted.
“I’m tired of your crap!”
He leaned into the window that led up to the driver.
“Come on, old man! Peddle to the Metal!”
**
Yugi stood at the site which a large ship had just docked. The smell of salt water and the sound of seagulls and crashing waves ensnared his senses as he waited…for what, he didn’t know.
Yami?
Yami wasn’t coming and he knew it.
Besides, Yugi wanted to leave. He didn’t want to stay. He didn’t want to have to deal with the bad memories. He was no longer meant to be here.
“Final Call For The Docking Of Majestic The Third!” a man yelled as he stood atop the craft.
Yugi turned and sighed.
‘Well, here I go. Good-bye Domino City.’
He started up the ramp that led up to the vessel.
“You ready to go, Yugi?” asked Eijiro smiling.
Yugi nodded his head.
Just as he was about to step foot upon the boat, however…
“YUGI!!!!!!!!”
The said boy snapped his head up and turned around.
“J-Joey?”
“Yugi, you have no idea what you’re doing!”
“Joey, what are you doing h I h I have go. You’re only making this harder.”
“No, Yugi! You don’t have to go!” yelled Solomon.
“What?”
“Yugi, listen,” said Ryou.
“Yami still loves you! Dearly! With all his heart! I swear it to you! He does!”
Yugi looked down.
“No he doesn’t.”
“But all of those things were just coincidence that it happened when Yami came back!” said Malik.
“Please believe us!”
“I don’t believe in coincidence. You know that. There are no accidents. The signs have told me that it’s time for me to go. Don’t you see that? I don’t belong here. The gods themselves have been telling me that I have to leave. And that’s what I’m doing.”
Yugi turned back around to board.
“WHAT ABOUT LOVE???!!!!!”
Yugi paused at his friend’s cry.
“What about love, Yugi?! Do you not believe in that ether?!” Joey’s eyes started to water slightly as his voice cracked.
“Yami still loves you and I KNOW you still love him! If that isn’t a good enough reason to believe that you belong, I don’t know what is! If you are really willing to just throw away something so precious as your one true love like it’s just some piece of TRASH, I don’t know who you are anymore!!!”
Yugi’s eyes started to sting at the harsh…but true words.
“Yugi, this is your last chance. Please. Reconsider.”
Yugi stood motionless for what seemed like an eternity.
He looked up at his cousin.
The man tilted his head.
“This is your decision, Yugi. It’s time you choose not what’s best in your mind…but what you want in your heart.”
Yugi stood staring at the man.
He ran up to him and embraced him in a deep hug.
“Thank you so much, Eijiro.”
“Don’t thank me. Thank your friends. They are the ones who thought thing whole thing out.”
“What?”
Eijiro smiled.
“You should go now. They’re all waiting.”
Yugi nodded and ran back down the ramp and flew into his friends’ arms.
“I’m so sorry, you guys! I don’t know what I was thinking! Please forgive me!”
“Of course we forgive you, buddy!!” said Joey as he held the hug tight.
“How could we not?”
Yugi’s watery eyes shimmered with happiness as he smiled a real smile for the first time in a long, long while.
“Let’s get you back to that lover of yours, eh?”
Yugi nodded.
“Hey, do any of you’z know where he is?” asked Joey.
“Uhh……no,” said Tristan.
Joey sweatdropped.
“Great. Now what?”
“I can get him through the link,” said Yugi.
“Good idea!”
Yugi nodded and closed his eyes.
In his head he saw purple, blue, and black swirls as he saw a window that led to his yami.
He glided over to it as he peered through.
‘I see him! He’s…he’s in my room. Okay, well I know where he is now. Should I tell him the news? Oh, I know! I’ll surprise him like he did me!’
Yugi, smiling, tried to will himself back to reality when he heard…
//Yugi…//
‘Huh? is he calling me? Does he know I’m here?’
Yugi again peered though the window.
//Yugi, How can you just leave me like this? How in Ra’s hell do you expect me to keep going without you?! I know I probably deserve this but…I can’t take it! It hurts! I won’t stand this any longer!//
Then Yugi felt Yami’s feelings of severe pain and torment and suffering as he understood what Yami was up to.
Yugi opened his mouth to scream.
‘NO! YAMI DON’T! WAIT! I LOVE YOU! I’M ON MY WAY!’
But Yugi’s voice didn’t get through to the Pharaoh.
‘No. His emotions aren’t letting me get through!’
Yugi pounded on the window.
‘Yami please! Listen to me!’
It was no use.
He willed himself back to the world in a panic.
“Joey! Yami’s so upset about me leaving that he’s going to break the puzzle!!”
“But Yami can’t survive if it’s broken, right?” said Mai.
“Damn!” yelled Joey.
“Here we go again!”
On their way, in Kaiba’s limo, Malik and Ryou had told Marik and Bakura situsituation so they could at least get a head start on persuading Yami into not going through with his plan.
“Yami! Yami, open this door, NOW!” yelled Bakura as he banged on the door.
“Yami! Yami, can you hear me?! Open up, damn it!”
“Yami this isn’t going to help the way you think it is!” tried Marik.
“Don’t you remember what it was like in the puzzle before Yugi solved it? 5000 years in that darkness with all the other lost souls of the shadow realm! Do you really want to go through that again?!”
‘It’s better than being without Yugi here,’ Yami thought to himself.
Meanwhile, Yugi was still trying to get through.
“Damn it! I still can’t get to him! Come on! We have to hurry!”
“Don’t you start yelling at me too,” said the driver in a snooty voice…which drove Yugi off the edge.
He jumped into the front seat, grabbed the driver by the collar, while stopped at a red light, and held him close to his face.
“If I want to yell, then by Gods, I’ll yell!!” Yugi screamed at the top of his lungs making everyone clumped to the very back of the car.
“Now if you don’t make this Gods damn piece of shit move any faster, I’ll make sure that the next time it needs a fuel up, it’ll use the fluids from your insides!!!!!!!!!”
The chauffeur gulped loudly and pressed on the gas peddle as hard as he possibly could as soon as the light turned green causing the car to go from 0 to 120mpf in about five secondThe The others screamed bloody murder as their drool and tears came from the sides of their stretched mouths and eyes.
“I didn’t know Yugi could yell!” said Malik over the noise.
“I didn’t know Yugi could threat!” said Ryou.
“Well, you know what they say:,” said Tristan, “big things come in small packages!”
The car came to a skidding halt out front the game shop as Yugi jumped out the moment it stopped and ran up the stairs to his bedroom door, the others a little slow to bringing their legs back to life.
Bakura and Marik heard the foot steps coming up the stairs, two or three...dare I say four?!...at a time.
“Yugi, he won’t come out! He hasn’t said a word since he went in there,” informed Bakura as he stepped away to let the little one through.
Yugi breathlessly lifted up his small fist…and instead of lightly tapping on the door so not to scar the man inside…Yugi pounded as hard as he could.
“Yami! Yami are you stil the there?! Please answer me!”
The Pharaoh stopped, mid-movement, as he held the puzzle high above, about to let it plummet to the ground below…until he heard his angel’s voice.
“Y-Yugi?” he whispered.
“Yami, please. Answer me!”
“What’s up?” asked Joey as he came up the stairs followed by a few others.
“He isn’t answering! He couldn’t have…”
he wasn’t able to finish the sentence as the door opened to reveal a teary-eyed Yami holding the puzzle tightly in his hand.
“Yugi,” he said as he started to smile at his light.
“Yugi…I thought that you…”
But he was cut off as a fist made hard…rephrase, VERY hard contact with his jaw.
Yami looked up to see Yugi, fist raised eyes spurting out tears, lungs panting.
“DON’T YOU ‘EVER’ SCARE ME LIKE THAT AGAIN, YAMI MOTO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Yami held his aching jaw wide eyed at the man before him.
Yugi took a few steps closer as he dropped to his knees, his face turning softer.
“I thought I lost you again,” he whispered.
Yami looked the little one in the eyes, at the pain, suffering, happiness, rejoice all put together to make up what he knew as his little hikari…his aibou…his koi.
Yami stood on his knees, still peering into the orbs that he always loved. He brought up his hands to cup the little one’s cheeks.
“You’re not leaving?” he dared to ask.
Yugi shook his head.
“How could I? I love you more than anything. There’s no way anything could ever make me leave you. You are my darkness, my protection…my own.”
Yami smiled as his tears, as well, spilled over his eyes.
He leaned down and captured Yugi’s lips in his own. Yugi immediately melted at the feeling of this long awaited moment. Yami pleaded for entrance which Yugi gave instantly. Yami probed every inch of the cavities crevices, savoring in the very taste that he had longed for for so many years.
Yugi encircled his arms around Yami’s neck and pulled his closer to deepen the kiss.
Joey smiled as he closed the door to let the two finally have their privacy.
He sighed on his way down the stairs and went outside to get a relaxed breather of fresh air when he saw that Eijiro’s car was parked out front.
“Hello,” he greeted with a smile and a tilt of his head, causing his brown hair to flop and his dark brown eyes to shine.
“I just wanted to make sure everything turned out alright.”
“Yeah, it did. All thanks to you. If you hadn’t of been so close to Domino, this whole thing would have failed. I really want to thank you for that. I don’t know what I would have done if I had to live with the two of them in the situation they were in.”
“Yes. I can only imagine. Well, I’d best be off. Don’t want my ride to take off without me.”
With a final wave, Eijiro got in his car as his driver drove him back to the pier.

//Yugi…//
‘Huh? is he calling me?
