Welcome all to Chapter 13. Hmm...what will we see in this chapter? How about Thanksgiving
and Christmas? Tis the season to be jolly! Except if your family name is Kaiba. Find out what has
the Kaiba family so sad.
Chapter 13: Mourning
November 24th. It's Thanksgiving! And the official start of the holiday season. I love it!
"Jou, I think you need to turn on the TV." okaa-san says rather sadly...
"What's wrong?"
"Just turn the TV on." she says.
I turn my TV on to the local news and see a house that's been burned to the ground.
'We're now standing here with President and CEO of KaibaCorp, Seto Kaiba. Kaiba-kun, how
does this loss affect you?' the reporter asks as the camera pans on Seto.
'It's hard. Especially because this is the start of the holidays and to have a loss like this is trageic
to my family and I.'
'Thank you Kaiba-kun. Back to the studios.'
"Thank you for that report. The fire started with faulty and old wiring in the heating system around
3am. When neighbors finally noticed the fire, it was too late and the house had just about burned
to the ground.'
I turn the TV off and immediately pick up my phone and call Seto.
"Moshi moshi..." a weary-sounding Seto answers.
"Are you ok?"
"Yea. I'm fine."
"I just saw you on TV."
"The media's everywhere."
"Who died?"
"My aunt, uncle, and their child. The house had burned so quickly that by the time the fire
department got to them, they couldn't recognize their bodies."
"I hate to hear that Seto... Is there anything I can do?"
"No, thanks. I'll be fine. I'm going to go and try to calm myself down." he says blandly.
"Ok. Call me later?"
"Of course Katsuya. I love you."
"I love you too."
"Bye." we say almost at the same time before we hang up.

December 25th. We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Christmas is finally here. Over the past 4 weeks, Seto's been slowly recovering from the
death. But he says his obaa-san isn't doing too well and she could die at any time.
For Christmas, I got Seto a card and a couple CDs. I hope this helps to ease the pain.
After family dinner, I go to Kaiba Manor. When I get there, an ambulance is at the house
next door.
I pull into the driveway and get out and immediately seek Seto. I find him in his bedroom
sitting in a corner on the floor.
"Seto?"
"Go away. I don't want to be bothered."
I can tell he's been crying. His voice is so hoarse.
"What happened?!"
"Obaa-san...she died..."
On Christmas Day...wow.
I sit on the floor next to him and hold him close. He rests his head on my chest and I
rub his back gently.
"You should be celebrating, not here mourning with me." he whispers.
"No. I want to be here with you, for you, especially since this has happened."
"There's nothing you can do for me..."
"Seto. I can be here for you. That's what I want to do right now. Even if there's nothing
else I can do, I just want to be a shoulder for you to cry on. An ear for you to hear when
you need to talk. A person you can turn to for everything."
"Katsuya..."
"Shhh. Your grandmother is in a better place now."
"I have to be strong for the family."
"You're strong. I love the strength in you. I've somehow broken your barrier, but to
everyone else, you have them somewhat scared of you."
"I must look like a punk to you now."
"No, you don't. You're strong now. Always thinking of me and your family before yourself. I
want you to think of yourself once. Do something special for yourself Seto. I bet you'll
feel much better."
He sits up and looks at me.
"I don't know..."
"Yea. Do it. Buy yourself a shirt. Treat yourself to a massage. Buy your favorite
CD or movie! Whenever I'm feeling kind of down, I do something for myself and I feel
better."
"I'll try it."
"Speaking of CDs, I got you two...as a gift."
"I feel bad. I have nothing for you."
"Yes you've given me your heart. That's the only gift I ever want."
I kiss him on the cheek.
"What CDs did you get me?" he asks.
"I don't know if you have these or not, but I know how much you like Kimeru and Wands,
so I got those for you."
"Which album?"
"Kimeru's 'Oath in the Storm' and Wands' 'Soldier'."
"I have Kimeru's. But I don't have Wands yet. It was always sold out when I went to
buy it."
"So, I guess I'll keep Kimeru."
"There's another one I want. Well, actually, it's just a song I like and I haven't been able to
find it anywhere."
"What's the name of it Seto?"
"The song is 'Kodokuna Traveler.' Field of View sings it."
"I've heard that song before. I like it too. I was going to get the single for myself, but I couldn't
find it either."
He rests his head back on my shoulder.
"I'm glad that I'm with you Katsuya. I love you."
"I love you too, Seto."
