Chapter 13: Announcement
Graduation! OVER!! Yes! I’m so glad! I start school in August at Domino University. Until then, I’m going to work at Kaiba Corp. Seto’s offered me a job as a gadget testster.
In other words, I get paid to play all day.
“Jounouchi?”
“Yea boss?”
“Here’s the newest duel disk. I need for you to test it out and tell me what you think. It’s lighter and easier to carry than the old one.” Seto says as he hands me a circular object.
I put it on my arm.
“Press the red button and it should do the rest.”
I press the button and half the circle swings around and stretches. 4000 appears on my life point counter.
“How is it so far?”
“It’s really light.”
“Would you like to try it out in a duel?”
“Duel?! I haven’t dueled in a while. I’m a little rusty.”
“And why is that? Have you lost interest in Duel Monsters?” he asks putting on a similar duel disk.
“No! I’ve just been wrapped up in school and you.”
He smiles and puts his deck into the deck slot. I grab my deck from the table and shuffle it, then put into the deck slot.
“Well, if you’re making excuses, then this will be an easy victory for me.”
“We’ll see Kaiba.”
“Duel!” we both say as he draws first.

I go to Malik’s, a nice two-story home he shares with his sister Ishizu and her husband, Shadi when they come to Domino City.
I spot Mahado and Karim sitting on a rather high branch and Malik begging for them to come down. I guess Ishizu and SHadi are at work.
“Malik!” I yell getting out my car.
“Jounouchi! Help me get them down!” yells Malik.
I run to the base of the tree and look up at them.
“Mahado! Karim! Get down here right now!”
These two take warui to another level
“Uhh…Jou…don’t you think I’ve tried that already?”
They laugh at my attempts to get them down…wait a minute. I may know how.
“I have something in my pocket for you!”
“What is it?” asks Karim.
“You won’t know unless you come down.” I say nudging Malik.
Hopefully he’ll play along.
“Jounouchi, I’ll take it. If they won’t come down to get it, then I’ll gladly accept it.” says Malik.
After about another 15 minutes of bribing, the two finally let their rope ladder down and climb down to solid ground.
“Where is it Jou?” asks Mahado.
“Yea. Where is it? I hope you didn’t bribe us to come down just because Uncle Malik wants us down.” Karim says as he opens his hand towards me.
I reach into my pocket and hand them 10,000 yen a piece.
“Wow, look at what Jou gave us Uncle Malik!” exclaims Karim as he tightly holds the crisp bill.
“I’m going to buy a rocket and blast to the moon!” says Mahado.
“How about we blast Uncle Malik to the moon with the rocket Mahado!” says Karim.
“Yay!”
Glad they’re not mine…
“Ok you tow, in the house. You need baths before your mom and dad get here for lunch.” Says Malik.
“Aww man!” they say almost in unison and they drag into the house.
“Thank you so much Jou. I don’t know how long they would have been up there if you hadn’t came along.”
”No problem Malik. How’s everything going?”
“Well, as you know, Rishid is the 2nd chair of the World Archaeological Society and he’s been extremely busy digging up ruins of ancient Pharaohs.”
“How is that going? Any new discoveries?”
“Yea. One of the groups he was digging with near Valley of the Kings found what may have been some ruins from the 19th dynasty. If it is, then it could be revolutionary because so little is known about that dynasty.”
“Wow. That’ll be great for him!”
“Nee-san is still chair of the W.A.S. and Co-director of Domino Museum along with Shadi. They’ve been pretty busy since Rishid called about the discoveries.”
“And you’re stuck with the two devils.”
“You know it. I went to Ryou’s yesterday and they usually mind him…but they were in the rebellious mood and tore up his apartment.”
“I know. He told me when I went over there yesterday.”
“What brings you to this side of Domino City? I’m glad to see you out.”
“I’m out visiting everyone. Shizuka had her baby yesterday.”
“What did she have?”
“A boy. His name is Setsuya.”
“That’s such a sweet name. What about the father?”
“That bastard?! No where in sight. He doesn’t want anything to do with the baby. He can’t deny the child is his. He has jet black straight hair. No one in my family has that type of hair. Not even our great-great-grandparents. The only hair color that’s in my family is red, auburn, brown, or the occasional blond.” I say pointing to my hair.
“I could call Marik…”
“NO! Please don’t do that. The last thing investigators need is to have to locate the pieces of his body.”
Heh, not that I don’t mind.

We end up tying the duel with ‘Last Turn’. But it was great. It had been about a year or so since I last dueled. We need to do it more often.
“There’s a slight pause before the cards are recognized and the 3-D image is generated. It can get annoying. Other than that it’s much better.”
“So, I need to get them to get that lag out.”
“Yea, with the other duel disk, the activation and images were almost instant.”
“Ok. I’ll see you later ok koi.” he says taking the disk from me.
We kiss and he leaves me with the others who had been watching our duel.
I turn around to face them and they have shocked looks on their faces. I can feel the redness creep up and take over my face.
“No way…” I hear someone mutter.
“Yes way.” I say smiling.
…
Ahh, another day’s work done. I can now spend time with Seto especially since he enjoys leaving work whenever I do, regardless of how much work he has to do.
“Katsu-chan. We need to talk about something…”
“What is it?” I ask lying next to him in bed.
This reminds me so much of that day in school…
“Do you….like me?”
I look at him…
“No. Because I love you.”
He smiles. “Are you ashamed of us?”
“Is this what this is about?”
“No, I just want to tell the world who I love.”
I freeze up…Does he mean going public??
“If you want to keep our relationship in a bottle, then that’s fine with me. But how long can you hide it? I’ve seen the way you eat popsicles.”
I turn red once again… When could he have seen me do something like that?!
“When you’re out with Yugi and the others. Do you know that if you apply those techniques somewhere else…I will never be dissatisfied.” he says with a sly smile on his face.
I’ll return the favor Seto. When I get the nerves to do so…
“I want them to know.”
He turns his head and looks at me like I’ve sprouted another head.
“Who is them?”
“My friends.” I keep telling them that we’re just close friends.”
“Well we are. Aren’t we?”
“Yea Seto. We are. I just want them to know how close.”
“Ok. I understand.”
I stand and walk towards the door.
“Where are you going?”
“Home. It would be a little TOO suspicious to bring them here.”
He laughs. “Yea, that obviously would give it away.”
We go to my apartment. I finally confessed to my dad about a week or so ago. He says he knew it all the time and he’s happy for me. Shizuka has known since Seto and I had our first kiss. I’m pretty sure okaa-san knows by now.
About 10 minutes or so after I call everyone, they knock at the door. I open it and the come into the living room. I sit next to Seto. Anzu and Yugi sit on the love seat and Honda sits in the recliner.
“Kaiba-kun. I’m surprised to see you over here.” says Yugi.
“I know you’re wandering why I called you over here.” I say.
They three nod and await my next words like they’re kids ready to hear the end of a story.
“I’m in love.”
“Congrats.” says Honda.
“Who’s the lucky one?” asks Anzu.
I smile and I can feel myself turning red again.
“You’re looking at him…” I finally stutter out.
There’s a brief silence before Honda yells, “You’re in love with yourself? You idiot!”
Anzu and Yugi look wide-eyed at me, then at Seto. They’re completely surprised at my previous statement. I bet they’ve figured it out.
A moment or so later, Honda finally catches on and gives the same blank look Yugi and Anzu had earlier.
“I’ll leave now. Obviously my presence is making them very uncomfortable.” Seto says standing.
“No. Sit.” I say pulling him back down next to me.
“How long has this been going on Jou?” asks Yugi.
“Since holiday break.” I answer.
”Wow…we never knew.” says Honda a little monotonically.
“I had a feeling about it…” says Anzu.
“What …do you all want to say about it? What to chew me out? Not be friends me with me anymore? Whatever you have to say, I’m ready for it.”
