The Morning After: Seto

A few birds were happily chirping outside as the first rays of sunlight were beginning to show themselves over the horizon. Looking outside, there was nothing to indicate there was a vicious storm only a few hours prior. The sky was one of those happy shades of blue which are only ever seen in movies, and there wasn’t even a hint of cloud in the flawless cerulean expanse.

This was the sight which greeted Seto as he slowly awoke from his peaceful slumber. Needless to say, he was a little shocked when he remembered just where he was, he couldn’t help but smirk as he noticed the creature cuddling in his arms with the long, soft black hair… that didn’t belong to Mokuba. Yes, sometime over the course of the night, Seto had drawn Otogi into his arms and never let go, as the smaller man was now being cradled in Seto’s strong embrace. Sighing happily and nuzzling into Otogi’s neck, Seto amused himself by playing with the aforementioned black hair as it was apparent he was the only one of the two who made a point of getting up at the crack of dawn everyday; but today was different and the CEO decided to indulge himself with a few extra hours of sleep, as long as he got home before Mokuba got up, life would still be good. Speaking of life being good, the events of the previous night replayed themselves in Seto’s brain, leaving him moaning happily as he drifted back off to sleep, finally deciding to pull the comforter over their naked bodies before any of the heat between them was unnecessarily lost.

As if on cue, not one hour later, Seto found himself staring right into the full force of the sun’s beams, ripping him from the delightful dream he was having and the first decent night’s sleep he had had in far too long. He mused to himself at the irony of that, he seemed to be able to get a good night’s sleep without problem as long as he was in someone else’s bed, not that he regretted the circumstances at all, he just found it funny. Lazily opening his eyes and letting them adjust to the gaudy atmosphere which they were presented with, Seto’s eyes just about popout out of their sockets as they came to rest on the blinking lights of a digital alarm clock.

9:47am

Requiring only a fraction of a second for the implications of the time to register in Seto’s brain, his entire body tensed, the sudden movement almost causing him to fall off the bed, but thankfully his legs were all wound up in the comforter, keeping him firmly in place. After a few moments of mentally devising excuses to Mokuba, whom Seto knew would be awake, even on a weekend; the servants always make a point to have him up and about before 8:30am, something about wasting the day, Seto mentally slapped himseor bor being such an idiot. You see, in all his infinite brilliance, Seto had forgotten that the power had gone off for an extended period of time the night before, causing all electronic devises to be reset, like digital clocks. So, until it was reset, the clock at which he was currently staring would be forced to live out the rest of eternity blinking the time which was off-set a good nine and a half hours. Sighing in defeat, Seto unwound one of his arms from around Otogi to run a hand through his matted brown hair and come to rest on the bridge of his nose, annoyed at his situation, he just let his head fall on the pillow he had previously adandoned.

If it’s true what they say and curiosity does kill the cat, Seto was thankful he wasn’t born as a feline. He stretched a little in order to see over Otogi’s sleeping form to the infamous bedside table where his eyes focused on a silver watch, obviously expensive as it was one of those really nice Esquire watches. Testing his luck, Seto reached up and over Otogi, thankful his arms were just long enough to snatch the watch without having to move too much; he found his trademark smirk gracing his face as he noticed that Otogi was still as far from being awake as he was when Seto woke up for the first time, despite the latter’s thrashing. The brunette leaned down and planted a light kiss on the jaw of the man sleeping soundlessly beneath him, mouth slightly open for the purposes of breathing and Seto was tempted to lean over and claim those lips once again… until he actually looked at the watch he held in his hand.

'Holy shit! According to this, it's already 8:15am and it takes me twenty minutes to drive home. Shit, that means there's absolutly no way I'm going to get home before Mokuba gets up considering I'm still in bed!' he thought, collapsing hopelessly on top of Otogi.

‘Ok, think Seto! Damnit, why did I think I could get away with extra sleep? Hold on a tick, I could just blame traffic, yes… Blame the non-existant Domino rush hour at 8am, brilliant! Man, I feel so giddy, it’s like I should be drunk, but I’m not! Still, I should be getting home, now where are my clothes?’ Seto mused to himself, slowly unwinding his limbs from the mess of comforter and Otogi. Speaking of mess, he dumbily realized they really hadn’t cleaned up at all from last night’s activities.

‘Alright, I should really go shower…’ he thought, then looked at the watch still in his grasp, ‘Damnit Seto, no time, must move!’

Frantically, he jumped out of bed, brushed himself off and went about searching frantically for his lost clothing. At long last he found them, crumpled up in a little heap in a corner… and as everybody knows, silk does not go well with crumpled heap. Quickly, he threw on his clothes and gave himself his traditional once-over in the mirror; and he wished he hadn’t, looking at himself with his hair in disarray, clothes all wrinkled, and he wished he would have had time for a shower, but time was ticking. He grabbed his necklace from the bedside table and paused to give Otogi a kiss before sprinting out the bedroom door.

After remarkably few wrong turns, Seto made it to the game shop and bolted for the door. Once outside, he fiddled around in his pockets for his keys. His heart dropped as, in his mind’s eye, he could see his keys clear as day, in the pocket of his trench coat, in Otogi’s computer lab… Inside the building. But, fortunately for Seto, his hand was still firmly caught in the door, allowing him re-entry.

Ten minutes of frenzied searching later, Seto had found the computer lab, his coat, and most importantly, his keys. Finding himself outside again, he all but launched himself into his car, revved up the engine and sped away into the distance.

After a few minutes of driving, the mere sound of the transmission was not enough to amuse our dear CEO; so, while waiting at a red light, he reached over to pop in his theme music CD and the digital clock caught his eye, 7:28am. Now distinctly remembering that the watch in Otogi’s bedroom said the time was after 8am, Seto knew instantaneously that something was seriously wrong with this picture. He cocked an eyebrow in inquiry as he turned the radio on instead of the CD player as he flew off when the light turned green. Once the awful song ended and Seto stopped laughing, the announcer came over the airwaves.

"That was Closing Time, by Semisonic to end off the half hour." The announcer said rather monotonously, then perked up with the next bit, "Good morning, Domino! It’s 7:30am, hope everybody remembered to turn their clocks back an hour when they reset them after last night’s ferocious storm because Daylight Savings Time started this morning!"

Having heard quite enough of that, Seto rather violently hit the button for the CD player at the next red light he came to, which just so happened to be the next light he came to. As the Kaiba Groove Music blared over the speakers, Seto contented himself with bashing his head into the steering wheel. He was just thankful the street was empty, the mighty Seto Kaiba, thwarted by Daylight Savings Time.

Back on the road again, Kaiba started grooving to his music as he leisurely zoomed down the streets. Given everything that has happened recently, he was seriously considering renaming the CD the Kaiba/Ryuuji Groove Music, it just seemed so fitting. It was with this in mind that he pulled up into the driveway of the prestigeous Kaiba mansion and parked. Knowing this was going to be a delicate operation and he would have to get inside without waking his brother who still had a good twenty minutes to sleep, Seto used all the sleek grace he had acquired over his lifetime to slink into his own house with stealth that would make ninja assassins jealous.
