Chapter 12
Fight
.....................
Thoth looked up as Set walked into the room.
“Set?”
“Thoth... I am in need of your wisdom.” Set said to the Ibis god. The god put down the scroll he was scribing and stood, nodding. He beckoned Set before him and the pair went into Thoth’s private office.
“What is it?”
“My little slave, the white one.”
“Yes?”
“He is a hikari.”
“He is?!”
“Yes. His father sold him to me. And this morning, who should invade my home, but the little one’s yami.”
“Oh?”
“Yes. He attacked me. I almost destroyed him, but Ryou, my slave, stopped me. The yami, Bakura, wants Ryou back. But I care for my slave. I do not want to lose him. I threw out the yami, but now, Ryou....” Set sighed and shook his head. “He is depressed. Thoth.... What should I do?” Thoth sighed and poured himself some wine, pouring a glass for Set as well, and both sat.
“A yami and hikari should not be separated.” Thoth said thoughtfully. “Their souls must be near one another, or they could die.”
“They’re already dead.”
“Their SOULS, Set. Their souls might die. You should not keep them apart.”
“But I OWN that boy.” Set protested. Thoth sighed.
“If you must keep him, at least allow him constant visits from his yami. But Set.... I will be honest.... If you want my opinion.... What I would do....”
“Yes.”
“Release the boy.” Thoth said, and Set stood with a scowl.
“I will not.” He snarled, and turned to leave.
...................
“Ryou! Master wants you immediately!!” Khamaat said, bursting into the room. Ryou didn’t move. She sighed and jerked Ryou to his feet and shoved him down the hall. “GO!!” She snapped. Ryou sighed and shook his head slightly, then proceeded to walk down the hall.
“HEY!! Watch where you’re going!!” Ryou jumped at the shout and stared at his Master. Slowly, he dropped to his knees and sweat dropped. There at the top of the stairs stood Set, a foot in front of Ryou and merely a foot tall. Ryou blinked as Set waved his arms, shouting at him.
“I’ve had enough of your depression!! As your Master, I order you to snap out of it immediately! Now pick me up and take me to my throne!!!” Ryou blinked and slowly stood, picking Set up and cradling him. “I’m not a baby!” Set whined, and Ryou blinked, shifting his master before carrying him down to the throne room.
“Put me on my throne!” Set ordered, and Ryou did so, then stood and watched Set pace back and forth across the throne, muttering under his breath. “Go make my lunch.” He ordered, and Ryou blinked.
“Ummm.... Yes Master.” He said, and slowly left, looking back over his shoulder at Set as he went. Set continued to pace around on his throne, until Khamaat entered.
“Master.... You have some visitors.” She said, and Set plopped down on the edge of his throne, legs dangling off.
“Who?”
“Pharaoh Yugioh and several others.” She said. Set groaned and rubbed his forehead, increasing his size to eight feet.
“Show them in.” He grumbled, and leaned back, glaring at the doors. They opened and in strode Yami, Ahmose, Marik and Bakura, side by side, the rest of the gang behind them. Set frowned.
“May I help you?” He growled, glaring at Bakura.
“We have come to negotiate Ryou’s return.” Yami said, and Set quirked his eyebrow.
“Oh?”
“We are willing to give everything.” Ahmose said, crossing his arms.
“I do not want what you have to offer.” Set said, propping his head up on his hand. He waved the other. “So please go and stop wasting my time.”
“I will not!!!” Yami said, crossing his arms as well. Set blinked. “God or not, you CAN’T keep Ryou like this!!”
“I can and I am!!” Set said, sitting forwards. “I purchased him from his father. It was a legitimate deal, and the boy legitimately belongs to me. Now leave before I get angry.”
“HE DOESN’T BELONG HERE!!!” Marik roared, and Set smirked.
“Khamaat....” Set said, and the slave knelt. “Summon Ryou to me.” He said, and she nodded and ran off. “He does belong here. And he knows he does. His place is with me.”
“We’ll see about that...” Bakura snarled, though he didn’t look too sure of himself. A few minutes later, the side door opened and Ryou walked in. The gang stared as the boy entered in the submissive posture, eyes to the floor.
“Yes Master?” Set smiled and opened his arms. Ryou blinked, then smiled and ran up the stairs to his Master’s throne. Set caught the boy up in his arms and swept him into his lap, kissing his cheek. Ryou giggled and cuddled into Set’s arms.
“Tell me, my little one.” Set said, stroking Ryou’s hair. “Where do you belong?” Ryou blinked and stopped his purring, looking up at his master.
“Here. With you.” He said, and Set smiled and looked up.
“You see?” He said, and Ryou turned. His eyes widened as he stared down at all of his friends, looking at him with mournful expressions.
“Ryou...” Malik whimpered from behind Marik. “Don’t... Don’t you want to come home? With us?” Ryou turned and hid his face in Set’s chest. Set gently pet Ryou’s hair and stroked his back.
“We are willing to pay whatever price you may set.” Yami said. “We just want Ryou back.”
“Ryou is not for sale.” Set said, curling an arm around Ryou and rocking him gently, hearing the soft sobs that Ryou was trying to hide. “And he was happy here before that fool Bakura came in and ruined him. And he will be happy again. Leave. And you are forbidden from setting foot on this property again! All of you!!” Yami’s arms and jaw dropped.
“You can’t¡X”
“I CAN AND I AM!! GAURDS!!! REMOVE THEM!!!” Set roared, standing.
“NO!!” Bakura screamed, and dodged the guards and hurled himself at the base of the stairs. “Please... If you will not sell Ryou to us, then... please. Take me as your slave.” Everyone froze and stared at Bakura, on his knees.
“What?!” Marik screeched.
“Please...”
“And why would I do that?” Set asked, amused, though Ryou was staring at Bakura, shocked.
“He’s my hikari! I can’t live without him...” Bakura said, and Set blinked.
“You’re not alive.” He said, and Bakura glared.
“I WOULD RATHER GO TO AMMUT THAN SPEND THE REST OF MY AFTERLIFE WITHOUT RYOU!!!!” He screamed. Set smirked.
“That can be arranged.” He said, and Ryou’s eyes widened.
“Master!!!” He gasped, and Set laughed.
“I’m not serious.” He said, ruffling Ryou’s hair, then stood. “I do not find this amusing. All of you, remove yourselves from my home. And no, I will not take you as a slave. I have no need for another slave. Now go.”
“NO!! I won’t!!” Bakura screamed, leaping to his feet and running up the stairs, his eyes on Ryou who was sitting on Set’s hip. Set’s eyes flashed and he seized Bakura by the neck.
“You are becoming annoying...” He growled, and Bakura fought to free himself, his eyes still on Ryou, who had hidden his face in Set’s shoulder.
“He is... MINE!!!” Bakura choked, lashing out with his foot, nearly slamming Set in the groin. The god snarled and he flattened his ears in his anger, which Ryou had not seen before. Ryou yelped as he was dropped to the floor, and Set lifted Bakura and hurled him across the room. Ryou sat up.
“MASTER, NO!!”
“STAY WHERE YOU ARE!!!” Set roared, and Ryou froze. Set turned and glared at Bakura, who was slowly staggering to his feet. He reached over and grabbed a sword from the wall.
“I have had enough of you...” He growled, and strode across the room, his intent clear; he wanted Bakura destroyed. He raised the sword as he got closer to Bakura, who was leaning against the wall, blinking his eyes. In a flash, Set suddenly found Marik standing between the god and the yami, his arms spread out in a protective stance.
“Move...” Set growled, and Marik narrowed his eyes.
“No.” He hissed, and Set growled. Ryou screamed as Set ran his sword right through the tan yami, who shouted in pain. Set lifted up the sword and swung it around, flinging Marik to the side. Marik hit the ground and rolled. Malik let out a cry and ran to his yami. He dropped to his knees, but froze when he found the bloody blade of Set under his chin.
“Keep him away, or he will lose his head next time.” The god growled, and Malik closed his eyes and gulped, nodding as tears streamed down his face. Set then turned and looked at Bakura, who was flattened against the wall and staring at Marik in horror. Set raised the blade again. “YOU, however... Are no longer being warned.” And he raised the sword again. This time, when he brought it down, there was a clang and a shower of sparks, and Set stared in shock. This time, Ahmose stood between him and Bakura, his Kris crossed, and it was these twin blades that had caught his sword.
“You dare to challenge me, Inarus?!” Set rumbled, and Ahmose narrowed his eyes.
“Yes. When you are wrong, I do.” The sorcerer snarled, and attacked, shocking everyone. Ahmose moved quickly, his fighting flawless... But he had never fought a god before. Set knocked Ahmose’s blades aside, and with a sudden dark blast, Ahmose hurtled across the room and into the wall, where his body cracked into the stone, leaving a deep impression when he fell to the floor and did not move. Yami ran to his fallen friend.
“AHMOSE!!” He gasped, dropping to his knees and turning the sorcerer over onto his back. Blood trickled down Ahmose’s face, and his eyes were closed. “Ahmose...” The yami gave no response.
“Holy shit... he killed Ahmose!!!” Joey squeaked.
“He was already dead, you idiot.” Seto snapped. “He’s just unconscious.” Then, to everyone’s shock, Seto turned and faced Set. “You will NOT hurt Bakura.”
“You challenge me as well, Sethos?” Set growled, and Seto narrowed his eyes.
“I do.” He said, and a pale but determined Mikado stood up behind Seto.
“As do I.” He said in a shaky voice, obviously terrified after seeing what had been done to his powerful yami. And he darted by Seto and attacked the Chaos Lord with his favorite weapon; his bare hands. Set dodged a few blows, eyeing the hikari’s quick reflexes. He was fast, but he was not on his yami’s level, and in no time flat, Set had grabbed Mikado by the arm, and with a snap and a scream, he broke it before flinging Mikado across the room. Now, Set faced Seto.
Ryou was still slumped to the floor beside his master’s throne, watching his master hurt his friends. Bakura looked terrified. Seto had learned to use powerful Shadow Magic, and now, he used it. He erected a shield between Set and himself as the god brought the sword slashing down. The sword slammed into the shield and shattered. Set looked startled. One of the few things that the gods had no control over was the Shadow Realm, and suddenly Set realized that he was in a room with almost all of the chosen few who were able to properly wield that powerful magic. All that was missing were two men named Pegasus and Shaddi and a woman named Ishizu. Set looked at his blade, then glared down at Seto, who stood, waiting for Set to make his move.
“Impressive....” He rumbled. “I had forgotten that you can wield Shadow Powers.”
“Wanna try again, or are you going to back down?” Seto snapped.
“You think that the God of Destruction will back down?!” Set hissed, and his eyes flashed. Ryou screamed when Seto was engulfed in a dark explosion. They all heard him scream from the center of the blast. When the smoke cleared, he was still standing, but he looked ready to fall. He raised his hands and sent a blast of Shadow Magic, but shielding himself from the explosion had taken too much out of him, and Set didn’t even stumble. He reached out and seized Seto, lifting him up and slamming him down over his knee. There was a loud crack, as Seto’s spine snapped. Set threw him aside and he rolled into Tristan, who knelt.
“Holy shit!!” The boy gasped, looking down at the unconscious ex-High Priest. Set turned and glared at Joey and Otogi. Both were shaking in terror, but they did not move from the place they had taken up before Bakura.
“Do you wish to be in pain?” Set hissed.
“Bakura’s our friend.” Joey snapped. “An’ we ain’t movin!!” Malik slowly stood and joined them, followed by Yugi and Tristan. The five of them looked terrified, but they didn’t back down. Set narrowed his eyes at them as Yami moved between the god and the five terrified boys, the Sennen Eye blazing on his forehead.
“You will back down now.” Yami commanded, and Set’s eyes widened.
“YOU are ordering ME around?!”
“YES! No one hurt my friends. I would stand against you if you were Ra himself!!” Set slowly backed away, walking over to the wall and pulling down a spear. Then he whirled, and hurled it.
“GYYAAAARRRHH!!!” Yami screamed as the spear went right through him, and right through Joey behind him, pinning them both to the wall. Yugi stood frozen, staring at Set with wide eyes as Set pulled down a sickle and advanced on them. With a few slashes, Yugi fell in a shower of blood, and Malik was tossed across the room leaving only Tristan and Otogi. Both glanced at each other before tackling Set. Otogi shot one of his dice into Set’s eye, making the god bellow in pain and bury the sickle into Otogi’s chest. Tristan turned and ran, leaping up and grabbing another sword, he turned, swinging it. Set caught his wrist and tore the sword from his grip, slicing open his stomach, then turned and advanced on Bakura.
“MASTER, NO!!!” Ryou screamed, leaping to his feet as Set charged at Bakura, who sat with his back to wall, watching in terror as the Chaos Lord barreled down on him. Set pulled the sword back, ready to thrust it forwards, and Bakura closed his eyes. There was a roar from Set, screams from all those who were conscious, and it ended in a sudden choked cry. Bakura opened his eyes and gasped. Ryou stood between him and Set, staring up at his master, whose mouth was open in shock.
“R-Ryou!!” Bakura gasped, seeing the sword protruding from the boy’s back, as Set held the hilt against Ryou’s stomach.
“RYOU!!” Set gasped, kneeling and catching his slave as he fell forwards. “AKUNOSH!!!!!” Set bellowed, his shout reverberating throughout his palace. Set slowly began to pull the sword from Ryou’s gut, cradling him in one arm.
“WHAT DID YOU DO TO HIM?!?” Bakura screamed, struggling to his feet.
“If he had obeyed orders, he would not be injured.” Set snapped. “And you’re lucky I don’t destroy you where you stand. But if you, or any of your friends are still on my property by the time Akunosh has healed him, I will send you to Ammut. And I can do that; you have attacked a god, and that is the penalty. You are lucky I am giving you a chance to leave. Now go.” And he dropped the bloody sword and lifted Ryou into his arms.
“B-Bakura...” Ryou whimpered. “Bakura¡K Bakura...” And Set turned as Akunosh burst into the room, freezing and staring at all of the carnage.
“To the clinic.” Set snapped, and Akunosh followed.
“We... We have to go...” Marik groaned, staggering to his feet.
“No! Ryou, he¡X”
“WE HAVE TO GO!!!” Marik screamed, watching Mikado slowly climbing to his feet. Malik was also standing, and he ran over to Yami and Joey, still pinned to the wall by the spear. Malik grabbed it with both hands, and Mikado lent his one good arm. Suddenly, a door opened and a face poked around the door. Then, three slaves hurried across the room. The man and two women grabbed the spear and helped pull it out from the wall, Yami and Joey.
“I am Iras, this is Kiya, and this is Hemaka. Master will punish us horribly if he knew that we were helping you, but...”
“Ryou is so sweet.” Kiya said. “We have to help his friends... Get out and go to Lord Thoth. He can help.” Malik looked around, then moved and hefted Seto to his shoulder as a bleeding Otogi managed to wake Ahmose. Slowly, the group staggered from the house and into the wagon they came in, and made their way to Thoth’s house.
Back in the house, Akunosh was concentrating on Ryou’s wound, Set standing over, anxiously. He knelt and gently stroked Ryou’s cheek. The boy slowly opened his eyes.
“M-Master...” He whispered, and Set smiled.
“I am sorry, little one. I had no desire to harm you.”
“Then... why do you try and harm my friends?” Ryou asked, then winced slightly as Akunosh continued to work. Set scowled. “My friends are my heart, Master. If anything were to happen to them, I’d...” And Ryou shook his head, tears trickling down his face. “Master, please... Promise me...” Set blinked. “Promise me that you will not hurt them again. Please. It is all I ask.” Set frowned and stood.
“You dare to ask me for a favor after what they did, and after you disobeyed?”
“Yes.” Ryou said, and Set’s eyes widened. “I would do anything for them. Please, Master...” Set sighed and sat down beside the cot that Ryou was on.
“You care for them that much?”
“Yes, Master. They are all I have ever had, in my life and after life. Master, please. It would hurt me more than you could know, to hurt them. Please...” And Ryou grabbed Set’s finger. Set couldn’t help but to move closer and pet Ryou’s face. “Please... even if I never see them again, at least promise me that you will do nothing to hurt them.” Set blinked.
“You will not try to run away to them?”
“Of course not, Master. All I ask is for their safety.” Ryou said. Set smiled at his beloved slave.
“Very well, Ryou. I swear it. I will not harm your friends. Or your yami. And I will not hire anyone to harm them for me. But you will not see them again.” Ryou closed his eyes as if he had been struck, but he slowly nodded.
“Thank you, Master. I will be a good slave. I promise.” He said, and Set smiled.
“You already are a good slave, Ryou.”
“I am glad that I please you, Master.” Ryou said softly, and Set kissed Ryou’s forehead.
“Done.” Akunosh said. “He needs rest. He’ll be fine.” Set nodded and stood, taking Ryou into his arms.
“Very well. Akunosh.”
“Yes, Master?”
“I want a spell placed on my home. Those people are not to set foot on my property again. See to it immediately.” Set ordered.
“Yes, Master.” Akunosh said, with a bow, and Set left the room.
...................
Bakura leaned on Malik, crying, as Thoth and his slaves worked on their injured comrades, Thoth himself taking care of Seto, who had sustained the most extensive injury. Thoth’s other slaves watched the more experienced one’s work. Thoth took in slaves from other gods who wished for the slaves to learn the magic of healing, and Thoth and his top students taught them. A door burst open and Anubis stormed in and moved to Ahmose, kneeling and laying a hand on his head. Ahmose blinked slowly, having suffered a concussion.
“Inarus.” Anubis called, and Ahmose looked up at his patron god. “My father did this?” And Ahmose slowly nodded, wavering slightly. Mikado sighed and moved over, laying his head on his yami’s shoulder. Anubis, seeing that Ahmose was in no condition to talk, turned to the hikari.
“Mikado. Come with me, please.” He said. Mikado blinked, and obeyed. “Tell me what happened.” Anubis said as they entered Thoth’s conference hall. Mikado sighed and nodded, and began.
