Alone

Nazo no Kisu (Mysterious Kiss)

'Nazo no Kisu' is now in its 12th chapter. Thanks all for reading this far. Your support of any kind is
greatly appreciated and welcomed. So, as we left off in 11, Yugi's headed to the hospital. Who's in
the hospital?

Chapter 12: Alone

The siren whirls as the officer weaves in and out of the busy traffic and to Domino Regional. I wonder
who could be here?

"Mutou-kun, go to the receptionist desk and the worker will tell you everything. I was just asked to
go to the tournament and find you." He says to me as I get out the car.

"Arigatou." I say bowing as he drives off.

I wonder if jii-chan is here? He hasn't been in the best of health lately...

I walk up the sidewalk and into the sliding doors. I look at the many people in the lobby of the
hospital, either waiting to see doctors, waiting on loved ones, or just waiting...for what, I don't
know. There are a lot of people here today.

Well, I guess with the increased traffic for the tournament, I guess the accident rate is sky high. Glad
I walked.

I hang a left and walk through the automatic doors to the information desk. I walk to the desk and
tap on the small bell. A lady, who's no older than about 30 comes to the desk with a clipboard in
hand.

"Kon'nichiwa, how may I help you?"

"Kon'nichiwa, I'm Mutou Yugi and someone requested me to come here immediately."

"Ahh, Mutou-kun. Are you familiar with one Atemu Ikhras?" she says looking on the paper on the
clipboard.

"Hai. I am. Is there anything wrong with him!?"

What could have happened to Atemu?

"Please go to the 3rd floor. He is in room 325."

"Arigatou!" I say literally running to the nearest elevator.

I, along with a few others get on. It stops at the 2nd floor before moving on to the 3rd. Before the door
could open all the way, I dashed out the elevator and straight to room 325. When I get to the room, I
hear crying...

Am I prepared to see what's beyond this door?

Taking a deep breath, I open the door and collapse to the floor...in disbelief of what could have
happened to him within 20 minutes.

Atemu's parents help me up and sit me in the chair nearest to Atemu. He's in bad shape; broken
limbs, swollen face, black eyes, and tubes running in all directions in and out of him. He looks more
like a machine than a man.

"What happened?" I ask wiping the tears from my eyes.

"No one knows. Someone, who was going to the tournament as a spectator, found him laying in the alley
near the dome. It appears as if he was in a fight. He has to withdraw from the tournament because he's in a
coma. The doctors can't say when or if he'll ever wake up..." his mom says as she starts rocking
back and forth.

His dad holds her and she cries into his arms. Why am I feeling that this is my fault somehow?

"The last thing he said before he faded out of consciousness was your name Yugi. He wanted to see you.
The doctors were saying that the only word that came from his mouth was 'Yugi'." adds his father.

I look over him once more...his hair which is usually kept neat is all over his head. His beautiful, natural
bronze toned skin is charred with bruises, cuts, covered in casts because of broken bones. Tubes are
literally coming and going in and out of every hole in his body.

He has one in his mouth, one in his nose, and various IV's going into his body. I notice two more tubes
on the bed, unlike the others, they're black. I guess those are for urine and feces.

"Yugi-kun..."

I turn to look at Mrs. Ikhras, who has now stopped crying for the moment and is looking at me.

"We know that our son is...gay."

Woah, so his sexual preference is men.

"He doesn't show it in public therefore too many people don't know that he is, except for immediate
family and some friends..."

Hell, I never would have guessed until that day in the gym and then I thought he was bi.

"Ever since he started to be around you, I've never seen him happier. It's like you've put a new spark
of life into him. We know how much he loves you. At home, he can't stop talking about you."

Umm..thanks...

"But I have some bad news... I didn't want to tell you this.."

I should have seen it coming.

"Atemu has to go back to Alexandria."

My world...has just stopped spinning. I look at Mrs. Ikhras and become slack jawed. There's no way
in hell he's leaving...leaving me...leaving everything behind.

"With the severe injuries he recieved, he's also contracted a fatal virus. The only cure for this virus is
found in one place in the world, Alexandria, Egypt. If he doesn't go there immediately, he will die
within 24 hours."

"Please. Go so he can live." I say. "Hurry, go to Alexandria! I don't want him to die!"

"Arigatou, Yugi." His mother says pressing the nurses button. While waiting on the doctor, Mrs. Ikhras
tells me about his virus and cure...

A minute or so later, the doctor comes in.

"Is everything ok?" he asks looking at the various machines.

"We're ready to leave." Mr. Ikhras says to him.

The doctor nods and runs out the room. A few minutes later, I see a stretcher and a few other nurses
and doctors rush into the room and carefully move him from his hospital bed to the stretcher.

"Mr. and Mrs. Ikhras, a helicopter is waiting on the roof. We will go there immediately."

They nod and follow the staff out the hospital. Leaving me...alone.

I run home and go straight to my room. Wandering about Atemu. Wandering if he will make it home in
time to cure the virus. Wandering if he will ever return to me.

'knock knock'

"Come in." I say as the door opens and my mom walks in.

"Omedetou, Yugi. We saw your duel earlier. That Esper Roper had nothing on you and your
unbeatable deck!" she says sitting on the bed and I lay my head on her lap.

"His name was Espa Roba."

"Gomen ne."

She massages my hair and smiles warmly. I see mom knows something's wrong with me...

"Why are you so sad Yugi? I thought you were out celebrating with Katsuya-kun and the others, but
they called here numerous times looking for you. I was getting worried."

"I was at the hospital."

"What?! Why?! Did something happen to you?"

"Iya. Something happened to Atemu. He was hurt really bad. No one knows what happened exactly. When
I left, he was in a coma."

"What room is he in? We can go visit him tomorrow right after your duels."

"We can't go see him."

"Why not?"

"He's in Alexandria, Egypt. He went there to get healed. His parents said that he contracted a deadly
virus that will kill his immune system...then his vital organs within 24 hours. The only cure for the
virus in the world is located in Alexandria."

"Why isn't there any anywhere else?"

"The cure has to be 100% fresh and natural for it to work. A flower, the Alexandrian Rose is only found
there in Alexandria and it can't be grown in any other environment. It's a key ingredient in the cure."

"Ohhh. Don't worry, he will return to you soon."

Huh?! Does she know too?!

Nah.

---

Three months later, I still haven't seen or heard from Atemu. I haven't completely written him off... I
know he'll come back. I've been getting an unual number of phone calls from females lately asking me
out. Even though I'm single, I tell them that I'm attached to a special someone. I have been saying
that since that day at the tournament.

The tournament? How'd it go? I won it. I'm just waiting for Worldwide in the next 3 weeks. I beat Jou
in the finals using jii-chan's Exodia deck. I knew my regular deck wasn't going to put a scratch on
his life points.

Jou and I are still best of friends, of course what happens with our significant others shouldn't effect our
friendship. As for Anzu, we're still friends, but not as close as before. We hardly talk as much because
she now accuses me of being gay every chance she gets...which I'm not. I've come to the conclusion that
I am bi, but the yaoi part only applies to Atemu and no other males.

What still baffles me is exactly what happened that day to Atemu. I've been trying to figure it out. I have
a strong feeling someone knows more than they're telling.
