*Chapter 11: The Offer*

It was the morning after the ‘incident’.
Yugi was still lying on his bed, his tears dried onto his face.

‘Did that really happen?’ he asked himself.
‘Did that really happen? Did Yami come for me? No…Yami would never come for me. Not anymore.
He’s with someone else now. And he’s going back to America soon…

I can’t believe Ramrik actually tried to… Was he lying to me the whole time? Gods…I can’t trust anyone anymore.’
**

Yami sat in a large armed chair, listening to his hikari’s thoughts and sensing all of his feelings of sadness, betrayal, unlovedness, unwantedness, humiliation, and anger.

Yami sighed, blocked the river of emotions, and stood as he went into the kitchen to find Joey, half swallowed by the refrigerator.

Joey looked up with a bag of marshmallows in his mouth, milk in one hand, and a few packets of Hot Cocoa mix in the other.

“Anything?” he asked as he placed the items on the counter.

Yami sighed looking down to the ground with sorrowful eyes.
“No. He won’t stop feeling the same feelings over and over and over in a huge, never-ending circle. He keeps saying that he was stupid and should have known better and was angry at himself for all the wrong reasons. He just can’t see that it wasn’t his fault…the getting completely drunk part, I’m glad to say, he feels embarrassed about and swears that he ‘will never touch that accursed devil’s wine ever again!’ I believe were his words.”

“Mmm,” Joey nodded. “Well, we’re just going to half to give him some time…again.” He sighed. “Why does everything have to happen to the little guy? I mean, first the whole thing with Duelist Kingdom and Gramps, then Battle city with Marik, then the three dragon thing, now this. I swear, I think the gods themselves are out to make his whole life miserable.”

“Yes. I have felt that way for so many years. I never really could understand how a teenager could ever go through so much physical, emotional, and mental trauma. It sickens me that it has to be my aibou that receives it!”

“Well, for the moment, Yugi is safe at home and all he needs now is space. In the meantime, I’m making some Hot Chocolate with marshmallows. Would you care for some?”

Yami pondered the thought.
“Yes. That would be nice, thanks.”

Solomon was downstairs in the family room of the store allied house watching the afternoon news.

‘And, for our breaking story, a young man, by the name of Ramrik Senamoto, has gone missing. The last sightings of him were at ‘Joe Shmoe’s Bar & Pool Hall’ on the corner of Fifth St. and Berlington Blvd.. Traces have been found in an ally not to far from the saloon: a gun, $400 in cash bills, and an illegally smuggled Cuban Tequila. If there have been any sightings of this man, please call 1-800-MISSING. More on that later tonight…
In lighter news, The Witchahatchy River has finally……’

Solomon shook his head.
“Teenagers and the trouble they get themselves into.”

Then he heard the phone rang. He stood and moved over to the phone to answer it.

“Hello, Moto Residence……Eijiro, nice to hear from you again. How are you?......Oh?......Is that so?......Really?...Well I think it is worth a shot. You should go for it………Hmm? Oh, yes, Yugi is fine. He just got out of a little bit of a troublesome night last night……Yes, the poor boy. Would you like to speak with him?......Alright. One moment.”

Solomon placed his hand over the bottom speaker of the receiver and yelled up.

“Yugi? Yugi, your cousin Eijiro is on the phone. He wants to talk to you. Won’t you come down?”

When no answer reached his ears, he started up the stairs and stood at Yugi’s door.

“Yugi, please talk to Eijiro. You haven’t seen him in so long. Can I come in?”

“Hmmm,” was his reply.

Solomon entered the room to find Yugi on his bed, right where he had let him.

“Here, Yugi. Please talk to him.”

Yugi slowly turned over and took the phone from his elder.

“Hello?” he all but whispered.

“Good evening, Yugi! How have you been?”

Yugi pondered the question.
“Well, I’ve been better.”

“Yes, I heard about your little predicament last night. I’m really sorry. Regarding that, I have an offer for you. As you may know, I’ve been studding abroad for the last five years now in several different countries. You’ve lived in that town your whole life and I can only imagine the memories you must have there. So I am willing to offer you a seat next to me as we study the world.”

Silence was heard on the other end.

“Yugi? Are you there?”

Yugi shook his head.
“Yeah, I’m here but…you really want me to come with you?”

“Yes. My next stop is going right past Domino City anyway. Actually, I will be docking tomorrow afternoon for a quick fuel up. So what do you say?”
**

Joey, Ryou, and Malik came over to the game shop.

“Hello, boys,” greeted Solomon.

“Hey, Gramps,” said Joey.
“Is Yugi here?”

“He hasn’t left his bed, much less the house, since he came back last night.”

“Can we see him?” asked Ryou.

“Sure. Go right head.”

“Thanks,” said Malik as he and the others passed.

They all reached Yugi’s door as Joey knocked and entered.

“Yug?”

He lookedund und to find Yugi sitting on his bed, hunched over, holding the phone in both hands rather tightly, a far away look in his eye.

“Hey, buddy. How ya been?”

Yugi didn’t answer for several seconds.
“Been better.”

“I’m sure. So, did you just call someone?” asked Malik.

Yugi shook his head.
“He called me.”

“Who?” asked Ryou.

“My cousin Eijiro.”

“Oh, yeah, I remember him,” said Joey.
“He’s the one who’s studding abroad, right?”

Yugi nodded.

“What di wan want?” asked Ryou. “If you don’t mind…”

Yugi was silent.
“He wants me to come with him?”

“What?” asked Joey after a beat.

“He wants me to travel and study abroad with him.”

“What did you say?” asked Malik, carefully.

A long pause…

“I don’t know…”
**

Yami was sitting in the kitchen with the other yamis when they heard the door open and close and saw the others come in?”

“Well?” asked Bakura.

Joey sighed.
“Eijiro, Yugi’s cousin, asked him if he wants to study abroad with him.”

“What did he say?” asked Marik.

“He didn’t give a definite answer,” said Ryou as he hung his light jacket on a hat rack and sat down with the others.

Yami closed his eyes and let out a long sigh.
“Now it is up to Yugi to decide what he wants…what he needs."
