Chazz, much to his dismay, woke up early due to the sound of cowering ojamas and whip cracks. Maybe he could use this early rise to his advantage and straighten out some of his jumbled thoughts. Currently, he thought most strongly about what Curran told him last night. Today he’d go easy on his tutor, maybe.
Perhaps he’d consult with Atticus later on too, as it seemed he could safely say he no longer felt the same feelings of love for his previous crush. The slifer had no idea what prompted his sudden change of heart, but he knew he had moved on due to the fact that she never appeared in his dreams anymore. He also didn’t feel the same around her as he once did. In his current state of mind, he wasn’t entirely sure how he felt about romance anymore. In fact, perhaps only Duel Academy’s self appointed love doctor could sort out the strange new feelings.
And of course, he’d have to give the test deck back today. There would be no reason for him to keep it past tomorrow, since that’s when the test was. Too bad though, as the annoying duel spirit within proved useful in some ways.
Chazz elevated himself out of bed and got ready for class. He grabbed his deck and his tutor’s and headed out. Strangely, Curran decided to keep quiet.
* * *
Class didn’t seem so bad today. Just like yesterday, the tutor came and sat next to his student. The ra greeted his student and mentioned he was happy to see Chazz feeling better. All the while, Atticus and Syrus continued their usual routines. If the former obelisk played his cards right, perhaps he could accomplish everything he wanted to do today.
“Are you ready for today’s lesson?” No day of school would ever be complete without that line.
“You know I am.” The slifer said calmly. “Are we having it here?”
Bastion, dumbfounded by his student’s sudden willingness to comply, replied, “well, sure, if you want to.”
“Good. What are you talking about today?”
The tutor gave his student a suspicious look. “What are you getting at?”
“What do you mean? Can’t a guy be interested in studies?”
“That’s not what I meant, it’s just you’re acting strange. Have you not fully recovered from yesterday?”
“I’m fine! Get on with it already!” And he thought trying to be nice was a good thing. Last time that’ll ever happen.
“Very well. Did you bring your note book?”
“Psh, of course! Do you think I’m stupid or something?”
“Not at all. Now please write quickly, I have a lot to cover today...”
And so it began. When he really thought about it, Bastion was a really nice guy. After all, he spent a lot of time tutoring anyone who needed help. Duel academy surely isn’t paying him, so he’s just doing it to help out, right?
“...You can make a powerful combo if you combine these cards with the right timing...”
He was helpful too, like that time he helped Chazz out of the well, he didn’t have to do that. He also didn’t have to give up his Pikeru card. He did those things because he wanted to, right?
“...watch out for your opponent’s spells and traps, because you could be foiled if...”
There was that time with Alexis too, he seemed to have Chazz’s interest in mind. He could have told her the truth, he could have stayed there with them, but he didn’t. All he did was help the love sick slifer out. There couldn’t possibly be malicious intent behind that right?
“...It is important to make sure you have another plan in case of cards that prevent fusion...”
Really, the most underhanded thing the tutor had done so far was draw attention to some mistakes Chazz made during a duel. It didn’t seem so bad now, as the group of failing slifers still seemed to be adamant fans. Actually, that was nice of him to allow him to perform for a group of people who idolized him.
“Chazz.”
He never once mentioned the deck incident. He could have been a real bastard about that, but he acted like he didn’t even care. He didn’t ever talk down to his students, he didn’t assign unreasonable homework, he always seemed concerned about how his students were doing.
“Chazz!”
Perhaps he wasn’t a bad person. Maybe there was no double meaning in his words. Quite possibly those dreams came about because maybe, deep down, it was what Chazz really wanted. Could that be so?
“CHAZZ!”
“What?!”
“You’re not paying attention. Did you catch anything I just said?” His voice was stern.
“Err, well.”
The tutor sighed, “honestly, can you focus on what I’m saying for just one hour? I know you don’t like me, but at least pay attention to what I’m trying to tell you.”
“Whatever!” The rich slifer said, gripping his pencil. His tutor began talking again, and this time he wrote down notes. Although, he felt terrible. All he wanted to do was tell him he was sorry, and that he did actually like the sessions. Hell, to be more precise, Chazz did like his tutor, if even just a little.
* * *
“Well, that concludes our lesson. Do you have any questions?” The ra asked blandly.
“No.” The former obelisk replied in a flat tone.
“Then you’re free to go. I’ll see you tomorrow.” He said, getting up to leave.
“Bastion.” Wow, saying his name like that was a lot harder than it seemed. There was only one thing left undone right now.
The tutor turned to face his student. He seemed surprised, as said student never called to him by his name before. “Yes?”
“I- err, was just wondering if you’re still mad about your deck.”
“What do you mean?”
“You know, the one I threw in the ocean. I want you to know, I’m sor-” he couldn’t say it, it was simply too hard.
“Don’t worry about that. I don’t mind. Is there anything else on your mind?”
Only a whole lot. “No. I guess I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“I bid thee farewell.” The ra stated, then took his leave.
It was official, the Chazz was in hot pursuit of someone else now. Next objective, find Atticus.
