Together?

Sorry, this one's so short. It's getting difficult to know where to cut the chapters. Well, I'll let you get to reading. And thank you!

When the boys were busted out the next morning, by Jou, Siamun covered for them by telling the rest of the palace that they were indeed bonded. That it had happened when the older prince was very sick, for they feared that he would die. And someone needed to carry on with ruling the kingdom. For the most part, everyone agreed that it was for the best.

With Akunadin off of the council, the rest of the members voted again on the rape law, and the underage punishment. Both were shot down in flames, never to be heard of again.

Yugi, in the meantime, was to be fitted for his ceremonial attire. It wasn’t supposed to be as elaborate as Atemu’s, for he was the younger mate. Someone had forgotten to tell the tailors that, though. For what he ended up with was pretty much a duplicate of Atemu’s attire. When Seto and Jou saw the outfit, they started calling the two princes, ‘Gemini kings’ due to their almost identical looks. Yugi, though, had a feeling that his mate had a hand in what his attire looked like. And he wasn’t too happy. He figured that Atemu probably had another outfit made for himself, that wasn’t quite as elaborate as Yugi’s.

They would have a public bonding ceremony on Atemu’s eighteenth birthday, which was coming up in a couple of weeks. It was to be held directly before the coronation. Then his lover would become a full fledged king. Yugi would retain the title of prince, unless it was made clear by Atemu that the two were going to share the responsibilities. Yugi was hoping that this was the case, but he had the feeling that Atemu was going to relinquish his responsibilities as ruler and dominant aibou to him. That didn’t sit very well with the smaller prince.

Between the fittings and all the fussing, Yugi would disappear to the roof top. He would fly up there to think over the coming events and worry about the state of his and Atemu’s relationship.

On the day of the coronation, that was where Seto found him. With his hands wrapped around one of the decorative spires that graced the roof of the palace, he was lost in his own little world.

Ever since the night that he had cornered Atemu and forced him into confronting his fears, the other prince had let him make love to him almost daily. Yugi had a feeling that it was more because he thought that it was his place, now, than because he trusted the younger one. If Atemu would have believed him that night, he would have made the first move, and ended up making love to Yugi instead of the other way around. Yugi wasn’t convinced that he was back to himself.

And with the coronation ceremony coming up, he had a feeling that his mate was going to do something stupid.

Seto had watched the two princes for the last couple of weeks. He knew that they were still not really talking. Only that they would disappear after dinner, most nights. Sometimes for hours. During the day, Yugi would sit on the roof, and Atemu would lose himself in his work. All was still not right.

“What brings you up here?” Seto asked the younger prince.

Yugi sighed, “The suggestion that you made worked, kind of. He will let me love him, now. But. He never makes the first move. I think that he’s beating himself into letting me take him, if you know what I mean. He must trust me, at least on some level, to let me do that. I just don’t think that he’s back to normal. I’ll know that he’s back, when he’s making love to me, being his dominant self.”

“Do you want to be known as the Gemini Kings, or as normal Aemohans. With one of you being dominant, the other being submissive?” Seto asked cautiously. “Being as you are actually Ehrenien, you naturally have a more submissive personality. Don’t ask, it’s in the genes. It’s up to you to decide. If you want a full partnership, cut him off! Make it so he has to make the moves. Otherwise, you’ll just continue as you are. It’s going to take time. Akunadin’s little stunt really hurt him.”

“I just came up here to tell you that it is time for you to be getting ready for your public bonding, and the coronation. And if he tries to do anything stupid, like tell the people of his rape, then I will help you shut him up before the damage is done.”

“Thank you; you’ve been a good friend. To me, and to him.” Yugi replied, unfurling his beautiful wings. They took off together, flying down to the entrance to the palace.

The public bonding ceremony went off without a hitch. Of course, this was after Yugi sent Atemu back to his rooms to put on the correct attire. He even helped the older boy into his clothing. Bitching him out about looking like the submissive one.

“I have an announcement to make.” Atemu’s baritone voice rang out. The coronation ceremony was just about to begin.

Yugi aimed a spell at him, under his breath. Effectively silencing his announcement. Then, for good measure, he kicked him in the shin, and glared at him.

“Eh, he. What he means to say, is that we will be sharing the responsibilities of ruling equally between the two of us. Why don’t you tell them of our agreement, love?”

Atemu must have taken the hint, for when Yugi released the spell that held the Aemohan prince voiceless, Atemu continued to talk of how they would be equal partners in everything. By the end of the ceremony, both princes were crowned as kings. To forever be known as the ‘Gemini’, the twins.

Two nights later, Yugi was wandering the halls with Jou as his guard. Ever since one of the minor council members had helped Akunadin escape, the palace kept the two kings under close surveillance. That had been just the day before. Why the council had even allowed him to live, was a mystery to Yugi. But he supposed that it had something to do with wanting Atemu to be the one to order his death after he was crowned. It was, after all, on the agenda for tomorrow’s meetings; what to do with the man.

Both kingdoms were accepting the boys’ rule fairly well. There were a few minor problems. But other than technicalities, it was a fairly smooth transition. Yugi was still worried about his mate, though. And he and Jou had discussed the problem at length. That was the whole reason for their late night foray to the kitchens. Well, that and Jou’s bottomless pit of a stomach.

“Well, it’s a busy day tomorrow. So I’m going to bed.” Yugi stifled a yawn.

“Alright, Yugi. I’ll see you in the morning. Goodnight. Just remember, he’ll come around eventually.”

The two parted way at the corner. Yugi walked down the hall toward the suite of rooms that he shared with his mate. Taking a glance out the window across from his rooms, he thought about how beautiful it was here. And all of the things that had happened to get him to this point.

Without warning, a hand grabbed him around the waist and hauled him back into the shadows.

“Hello, little one.” A voice breathed in his ear.
