DISCLAIMER: I don't own any of the Yugioh characters mentioned in this story and the Shadow Realm does not belong to me either.

Author's Note: Yes, I realize that I never answer Yami's questions about this realm. You have to wait and see.

Chapter 11

The air was dark and cold but there’s something different. This was not the dream that has haunted me for so long. I looked around…where was I?

“Xenobia…can you hear me?” a disembodied voice called.

“Yes; yes, I can. Where am I and who are you?” I pleaded desperately. “I don’t understand what’s going on…please help me!”

A man with tri-colored hair stepped out to where I could see him; he looked very familiar to me. His amber eyes were filled with compassion and concern. Dressed in black, I found myself looking at the necklace he was wearing; that looked just like the one Yugi wore.

He smiled and nodded. “Yes, you do know who I am. Many millenniums ago, I was known as Pharaoh but you may call me Yami. I share a bond with little Yugi through the Millennium Puzzle he wears around his neck. Why do you call to me to this place? It looks like the Shadow Realm but it is not.”

“I don’t know…I don’t understand,” I replied brokenly. I felt tears forming in my eyes and weariness in my heart. I was tired of the confusion and fighting the turmoil in my soul. I wanted to give up but I didn’t know how. I dropped to my knees and bowed my head.

Yami moved to stand in front of me. He reached out, took my chin in his hand, and raised my face. He searched my eyes, as if he could find the answers there. After a brief moment, he nodded.

“This place is a realm of your own making. Something has happened to your soul on any number of other levels and it has become lost. You are frightened but you don’t ask for help. The scars on your body cannot compare to the ones left on your spirit.” He said softly. “Now, your physical self is in danger.”

I gasped as an unseen knife slashed across the backs of my hands. A design had been cut deep into the skin. It was as if my body had become a book and an unknown hand was writing in it. Yami glanced at the symbols grimly. “These symbols are part of an ancient ritual of retribution. Tell me…who would hold such a grudge against you to attempt such an act?”

I tried to remember what had happened before I woke in this place. The pain from the cuts made it very difficult to think clearly. Bits and pieces of memories flashed in my mind: strawberries, buttons lying on the floor, crimson streaks of blood on a bed sheet, and icy blue eyes staring at me. I started suddenly; I remembered the sound of a voice telling me that payback was going to be such a bitch.

“I remember! I’m at the club owned by Bakura and Marik. I had a huge t wit with Seto and came to the club to talk to Bakura about it. I walked into the office and Marik was there instead!” I cried.

“Why are you in this realm?” Yami asked as he became more concerned.

“The last thing I can really recall was Marik moving behind me to close the door to the office. Then, I felt pain across the back of my neck; like something had hit me.”

Yami pulled me to my feet. “You must leave this realm at once and return to your physical self. If your body dies while you are here, your soul will be completely lost. I will send someone to help you as quickly as I can. Do not give up…I will help you now and always.”

I reached out to touch Yami’s hand; he pulled me into an embrace. “Thank you…” I spoke softly before the darkness faded.
