Chapter 10
Yugi walked home with Joey, Honda, and Ootachi by his side, covering him from any relation from Ushio. Good thing too, but they spotted him and his thuggish sidekicks not too far from the Game Shop. However, they knew better than to attack Yugi with the school’s top three street fighters around and slunk off.
Yugi was surprised to find the shop’s front door open when he got home. He ran inside, straight to the storeroom with his three schoolmates following behind in confusion. Yugi leaped through the open door with a delighted shout of, “Grandpa, you’re home!” and a muffled, “Oomph!” following seconds later as he landed on someone. The three delinquents peered into the room and chuckled at the site of Yugi giving an elderly man a bear hug.
“We-welcome home, Yugi,” the old man gasped, trying to pry Yugi’s arms off him. “Now let go so I can give you your present.”
Yugi let go immediately and was almost bouncing with anticipation as Grandpa pulled out a dusty box. The boyish teen took it excitedly and and practically ripped it open. Inside was a game he had never seen before, and he glomped his grandpa again in appreciation.
“Hohoho, I take it you like it?” Grandpa asked.
“Like it? I love it, Grandpa!” Jou, Honda, and Ootachi were still in the doorway, beaming down at Yugi. Now they knew why he loved games so much: They would one day be momentos from his only remaining family member. Grandpa looked up and spotted them, a look of pure joy on his face.
“Yugi, you brought friends home?” he asked in shock. Yugi stood up and looked behind him to see his three newest friends smiling with happiness for him.
“Yeah. These are my new friends from school: Jounouchi, Honda, and Ootachi. I was only able to become their friend because of the Sennen Puzzle.” Yugi touched the Puzzle gently, almost tenderly. Grandpa raised an eyebrow and gasped.
“You finished it?” he cried in utter shock. Yugi nodded. Grandpa was stunned. He knew the legend of the Puzzle, even though he never told Yugi. He knew an ancient being dwelt inside with immense power and that only one could complete the Puzzle: the being’s soulmate.
“You told me that if I managed to complete it, I would never be alone again. You were right, Grandpa. I’d like you to meet Yami,” Yugi said happliy. He looked down at the Puzzle, but paused. “You might want to shield your eyes.”
Grandpa nodded and did as he was told. The Horus eye glowed with intense light and the black clouds began to swirl out of it as Yami emerged.
