The Rain and the Sun

Girlo- aww it’ll be alright

Setoaddict – yupers thanks. I hope I haven’t kept you waiting for too long been a rough time.

Mishiko Shinsei – really? Ooo I feel so special, thanks! And you’re welcome.

A/N: So sorry everyone for taking way too long! I’m going to finish this story even if it kills me! I had to take care of my dad for a while; he’s doing better now so I've got time to kill again and some creative juice in my belly.

The room was silent; filled with moving lips and empty laughter. Seto just couldn’t hear it, not even someone close to him. So he opted to stay away, to perhaps get his mind to focus on what was going on around him instead of that one moment that had replayed itself in his head like a broken record.

It had been the one time he could have kissed him, the one time that everything would have been made right. BUT NO! The bell just had to ring, startling Jou from him. Yes, he was hurt that the blonde duelist had made up some excuse and didn’t show up for detention later that day. Everything seemed so down hill from there, no words were exchanged not even a single glance from those gorgeous molten eyes. NO, NOT A DAMN THING!!

The thing that pissed him off more was that he didn’t have the balls to run after Jou. He knew that perhaps he could have called or perhaps simply sought out the blonde but he didn’t want to seem anxious. He could understand if Jou was nervous, hell he was nervous too! It would be a big change for both of them.

Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, Seto decided that if he was going to do something about Jou he might as well do it and not debate with himself over it. With a drink carefully balanced in his hand he made his way through the finely dressed crowd towards a back wall. It wasn’t the wall its self that had caught his attention but more of the window on the wall. As he drew closer he noticed that it had begun to rain. Setting the drink on the windowsill he made a fluid retreat to the exit. The need to be outside in the rain was almost a needed thing.

The weather was responding and displaying just how he felt at the moment, tiny, used and perhaps washed out. As he stepped out of the covered area the rain automatically drenched him but Seto paid it no mind. It felt so refreshing and it seemed to cause his problems to melt away but there was something missing, the sun. Just as he had the impulse to let the rain wash away his pain he wanted to bask in the calm and warm feeling from the sun.

But there was no sun and if he continued to hide the sun under all the clouds that he had set out for it, there would never be any. Seto hadn’t even realized that he had begun to walk away from the party; he couldn’t even remember what it was for at the moment. He hadn’t even realized how much time had passed until the sky was starting to peak into a color indescribable, like a dream. Then, there in the distance, he saw the one person who he had wanted to see.

Jou was looking out into a small forest, on the same bridge in the exact same spot when Seto had been a kitten. He was sitting on the railing, just enjoying the early morning when everything was just starting to wake up. He seemed to have no care in the world but a sense of disappointment hung over him. It was like being lost, frightened and alone. The rain wasn’t showing any signs of stopping but with the sun there was always the possibility of that one special rainbow just begging to pop out.

He hadn’t even noticed that Seto had joined him on sitting on the railing until he felt an equally wet hand land upon his. He didn’t need to say the name to know who it was, that spark was enough. It was what had scared him away when they had kissed; it wasn’t the bell or even the possibility of being seen with someone that was supposedly his rival.

“Always rain when ya need sunshine de most huh?”

“True but I found the sunshine”

“Where?”

“On a bridge, by a pond, looking lost and a bit alone”

“I ain’t alone Kaiba”

“You’re not?”

“Naw, I always knew dat dere was something in ya, I was just kinda surprised when it came at me wit full force ya know?”

“Yeah, I know, surprised me too”

They both laughed at that, it was kind of like a Christmas movie where the good always wins at the end. Even if fairy tail endings didn’t always come true how come they couldn’t have their own version? So what if others thought of them differently, it was what they wanted and nothing else could split them from it. It was then that they shared a kiss.

The rain finally ceased and the sun was just as bright and as warm as it had always been. It was a refreshing time from all the cold harsh snow they had and for the first time in several months the clouds had disappeared leaving the sky breathtakingly blue. All the natures’ beauty was lost to the two of them; it was hard to notice there was a blue sky when electricity was running all over your body like a thundershower.

It wasn’t until Shizuka arrived a few hours later that the world had started to catch up to them again. That immediately stopped when her eyes landed on their hands that were linked together like impenetrable glue.

It was then that she started to gush; the words that were pouring from her mouth never did seem to want to stop. Not even Jou could catch a single word she was saying because she was saying them so quickly.

“Slow down sis!” Jou cried rubbing his forehead a little from the small headache she had formed.

“Sorry I was just so worried about you and then I see Kaiba and then your hands, oh this is so great I mean I knew that you liked him from before but you said he was a total jerk and when I saw him in the hospital he seemed like a nice guy, oh and hi Kaiba, anyway, uh where…was I going with this?”

“Ya were stoppin’”

“No, oh well I forgot anyway I’ll just head back to the apartment, Tristan was saying something about just the two of us watching a movie and I didn’t know if that was okay with you since you seem to think that Tristan is some kind of perverted guy but mom seems to really like him because he has manners?” Jou wanted to cut in at that moment but a strong grip from Seto prevented anything. He calmed down a bit but was still kind of mad at himself, for not watching her closer and at Tristan for trying something so sneaky.

“Anyway that’s beside the point and oh yes jou where was that kitten that you were talking about? I want to see the little guy!”

“Well ya see -” Jou was glad he was interrupted by Seto who seemed just as annoyed by his sister’s rambling mouth.

“We’re going to go get him, today Jou wanted to surprise you with it but I held him up”

“Oh! Well that’s okay you two have fun at picking it out and oh make sure it’s a cute one! See you!” With that she began to head back towards the apartment, good thing it was only just a little ways from where they were.

Everything seemed to return to how it always had been, calm and collected. Well, if you minus psycho spirits, world dominators and life ruiners. The only differnce was a less agitated Kaiba who even swallowed that large lump of pride soup and joined the rest of the 'gang' in activities. The only difference was the stolen kisses here and there from Jou. At least Seto had refrained from eating any chinese.

That was, until about two months afterwards. The gang had dragged him and mokuba to a tiny place he'd never even heard of. He allowed himself to relax through out the food, which was very pleasent to say the least as well as the waiters. The only thing that urked him was the fortune cookies they brought out when the check arrived.

Grunting slightly Seto grabbed the last one and cracked it open, ignoring the sweet cookie that now lay in half.
