*Chapter 9: Drowned Sorrows*

Yugi was walking down the street, his hands jammed into his pockets trying to fight off the cold.

‘I can’t believe he lied…well, I guess I should have expected it. He did do all that other stuff, what’s one more wrong doing?...or rather a hundred? Oh, why did I ever trust him? I was so stupid! I should have known!’

The streets were . Th. The only lights were the moon, stars and minimal streetlights which cast an eerie yellow glow. Some were out while others were blinking franticly making the scene even more sinister.

Then the sound of a car approached the young boy’s ears. He looked up to see a car racing toward him. The horn was blaring and there were all kinds of hoops and hollers coming from the boys inside, most likely drunk.

‘Well, at least someone’s having a good time.’
Then, Yugi looked up to see flashing green and yellow radiance from one building all alone. In neon lights were the words ‘Joe Shmoe’s Bar & Pool Hall’.

Yugi sighed. ‘Might as well.’

He opened the rusty door. As it creaked, the air flew into his mouth and nostrils like nothing he had ever experienced before. The smell of strong cigarette and cigar smoke, the taste of tobacco and hard liquor was almost too much for him to bare. Up at the counter sat what could have been fifty people in about thirty stools.

Yugi made his way up to the bar with out vomiting which, in his opinion, was a great feat. He squeezed through the mob and placed his hands on the counter.

“Well, hello there,” said the young man behind the counter.

Yugi looked up. He didn’t look a day over twenty.

“What can I get you? Wait, aren’t you a bit young to be here? Whatever.”

Yugi just stared at the man.

“Um…is there anything I can help you with?”

Yugi shook his head to try and clear the smoke screen on his mind.
“Oh. Umm…can I get…uh…”
Yugi laughed and rubbed the back of his head timidly.
“Sorry. I’ve never been to a bar before. I actually have absolutely no idea what you have.”

The bartender laughed.
“Don’t worry. Plenty of people have never been to a bar. My name’s Aaron. Here, I’ll help you out. There’s an Fruit Daiquiri which is good, there’s Collins, Cooler, Alexander, Highball, Ricky, Sling, Sour, Spritzer…”

“Uh, I think I’ll take your word for it on the Fruit Daiquiri.”

“Coming up!”

Yugi sighed as the bartender walked away.

‘I didn’t know that there were that many drinks.’

After a few minutes, the man came back with an exotic glass and a purple straw.

“Here you are, sir. That’ll be 5.80.”

Yugi dug his hands in his pocket to look for some bills. Aaron was eyeing him rather closely.
“I know I’ve seen your face before…Oh! I know!”

Yugi looked up.

“You’re Yugi Moto, King of Games, right?”

“Um…yeah. That’s me. Well, sorta…”

“I saw all your battles. You’re one hell of a duelist. No one’s beat you yet, right?”

“Well, almost.”

“Alright then. Prove me wrong. Name two different times that you lost.”

“I’d rather not. 5.80 you said?”

Aaron waved his hand.
“Never mind that! It’s an honor just to be talking to you. All your drinks are on the house.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yeah, why not? Hey, I’m on break in about five minutes. I’d love to talk with you, if that’s alright.”

Yugi thought back to the last time he said that he would go and talk with someone.

“Um, I don’t know…”

“Oh, come on. Just for a bit.”

Yugi thought.
‘Well, he is buying my drinks. I guess I could talk to him for a little while.’
**

Bakura was walking down the street.

“Hey, Bakura?”

“Yeah, Marik?”

“Why do you think Yami left? I mean, you’d think him being a past Pharaoh and all that he would have had half a brain.”

“You’re asking me because why?” asked Bakura irritated.
“Why must you always talk about the Baka Pharaoh? He made a mistake and now he’s suffering the consequences.”

“But, doesn’t it seem like it’s been a long enough time? I get why Yugi was mad at Yami. Hell, his leaving didn’t affect me any and I still wanna bash his head in till he bleeds out his ears.”

“True, it has been a long time but apparently not long enough for the little one. And what do you mean his leaving didn’t effect you? Do you not remember the pain that we had to see little Yugi go through? The pain that our hikari’s went through to watch Yugi? And don’t you even think about lying to me about feeling great pity and sympathy for the young one because I know you, just as I, did. Don’t you remember the counseling we all had to do for him? By the gods, did I feel bad. I was so angry at Yami back then that…Gods, I’m still pissed at! I ! I need a drink.”

“Well, you’re with the right person!” Marik ye as as he wrapped his arm around Bakura’s shoulders.
**

Yugi had been at the bar for several hours now talking with Aaron as he switched from being on break to off break and back on with each hour.

“Yeah! Play that song! Louder!” Yugi yelled as he stood on the table.

“Uh, Yugi? You might wanna think about coming down now,” Aaron said.

“Nonsense! I’ve never had such a view in my life! Look at all the people!”
Yugi tilted his head back as he finished off his fourth Daiquiri.

“Get me another, please!”

“Yugi, I think you’ve had enough already. Please come down.”

Yugi hopped off the table and fell as his feet made contact with the ground.
Aaron leaned over to help him up.

“Okay. I’m taking an early leave tonight and taking you home. Come on, my car’s out back…”

“No!” Yugi shouted as he squirmed in the grip.
“I wanna stay! Get me another drink!”

“Yugi, you’re drunk! You’re way past drunk! You past drunk a hundred miles ago! I’m taking you home now!”

“No!”

Yugi kicked Aaron in the shin as he ran off into the crowd.
“OWW! Hey, Yugi wait! Ugh!! FiSee See if I care! Huh. I try to help but nooo…”

Yugi ran into the crowd and saw a woman holding a tall glass with ‘amber water’ in it and to Yugi, it looked good.
He walked over to the girl and snatched it from her hand.

“Hey!” she protested but Yugi had already gulped down the whole glass by the time she turned around.
“Jerk,” she mumbled under her breath as she turned to order another drink.

Yugi stood there with the glass in his hand staring at the people. The glass dropped and shattered on the floor. The music had suddenly become very loud and was pounding in his ears. The floor started tilting on him as the people started swirling into different shapes and colors.

It was becoming hard for him to keep his eyes open as he reached out his hand to stabilize himself. His hand reached a table in which his hand knocked three glasses off.

Bakura and Marik had just come into the bar.

“Ah, how I love Mr. Shmoe!” said Marik over the music.

“Hey! I see a free table!” Bakura yelled as he and Marik ran over to grab it.

Just as they had almost reached it, Bakura ran into something or rather someone.

“Hey! Watch where you’re going, pompous…”
He looked at his interceptor and was astonished to see tri colored hair.

‘Yugi?’ thought Bakura but the said boy just wondered past him as though he weren’t there and back into the crowd.
He was muttering incoherently under his breath.
“Yami………Sena……both happy……gods hell…………Yami……haha……Yami………………”

Bakura snapped out of his shock.
“MARIK!!!”

“What?”

Bakura pushed his way over to his friend.

“You’re not going to believe who I just saw!!”

“Is Franky here? He owes me fifty bucks! Where is the sleeze…”

“No! ‘Franky’ is not here! I just saw Yugi and he was drunker than we have ever been!”

Marik spurted out the nuts that he had just jammed into his mouth.

“Yugi? He’s here?!! Drunk?”

“Yes!”

“Why would he be here?”
Marik gasped.
“You don’t think Yami…”

Bakura growled.
“I’ll bet that he again did something rash and absolutely foolish once again! Come on! We have to find Yugi!”

They went out in the crowd in search for the small boy but to no avail.

“Anything?” asked Bakura.

“Nothing! He could have left already for all we know!”

Bakura sighed.
“You’re right.”

Marik glared.
“I think it’s time we paid a little visit to the Pharaoh no Baka.”
**

Yugi was on his knees.

‘Why? Why did I have to have that last drink? Why did Yami leave me? Why didn’t he stay? Why didn’t he let me come with him? Why…’

Before he could finish his thought, vomit came up and out his mouth and into the toilet bowel before him.

He coughed and panted for a while, then,

‘Why can’t I stop loving him?’
**

The door to the shop burst open as Bakura and Marik stormed in. Yami and the others jumped up at the sound.

“Hey, what’s up? Why did you…”

Before Yami could finish, Bakura had grabbed him by his shirt collar, lifted him off the ground and slammed his back into the wall.

“What did you do to him?!”

“What? To who? Get the hell off me, Tomb Rat!”

“Not until you answer!” said Marik who was close behind.

“Guys, what’s the meaning of this?” asked Ryou. “Put Yami down.”

“No!” said Bakura. “Answer me, Baka!”

“What did Yami do to who?” asked Mai.

“Little Yugi, that’s who!” snapped Marik.

Yami’s eyes widened.
“What? What do you mean? I didn’t do anything to him. Why? Is he alright?”

“Is he alright?” Marik repeated. He brought his fist up and struck Yami in the gut as Bakura let go and Yami slunk to his knees, winded.

“Marik!” Malik yelled as he and Ryou went to push their yamis away from the hurt man.

Yami coughed.
“W-what’s wrong with Yugi? Why are you accusing me?”

“We just saw Yugi at the local pool hall, drunker than a stuffed pig muttering your name over and over!” said Bakura.

“Tell us now what happened and we might let you live depending.”

“Yugi? Drunk?” said Duke. “I didn’t know he drank.”

“He doesn’t, stupid,” said Tristan. “Or, at least he ‘didn’t’.”

Yami was looking at the ground.
‘Yugi was at a bar? Drunk? Saying my name? Did I……do something wrong? Was it the kiss? The hug? But he hugged me back and said that he missed me. But then…why did he just disappear like that?’

“Yami,” said Bakura calmly.

He looked up.

Bakura was eyeing him coldly.
“What happened after Ryou and I left?”

Yugi said…he had to go, but he didn’t. He stayed and…I said some things. Then he started yelling at me and started crying…and then he hugged me. I hugged him back. I got up to get some water but when I came back, he was gone.”

“…That’s it?” said Marik waiting for the part where Yami did something idiotic and stupid.

“That’s all.”

“Then something must have happened,” said Joey holding his cheek. “Something that Yami didn’t see.”

“Like what?” asked Mai.

“I don’t know. Maybe something scared him?”

“But what could have scared him that Yami didn’t notice?” asked Ryou.

“Who knows,” said Tristan. “Joey and his ideas.”

Malik was pondering at the idea.
‘Something Yami didn’t see…’

He started at one side of the room and panned across the length of the space.

He had covered almost the entire room when he finally came to the last corner where something was ticking out from under a table. Now, this being the Moto household, this was quite unusual. Everyone, even Yami, were pretty much neat freaks so seeing a stray piece of parchment was rather peculiar.

Malik walked over and bent over to pick up the object.

“Malik? What are you doing?” asked Duke.

Malik stood up holding an envelope in his hands.

“Yami, do you recognize this?”
He held it out with the word ‘Yami’ in pink pen facing the others.

Yami eyed it suspiciously.
“No, I do not.”
He walked over to take it from Malik.

Yami opened the packet, took out the letter and read it silently.

It wasn’t until Yami’s eyes grew wide and he gasped that the others burst.

“What’s it say?”

“Someone is playing with Yugi’s mind! That someone is going to die…tonight,” Yami said quietly yet everyone knew that that tone was reserved for people he truly and undoubtedly hated to the deepest pits of Ra’s hell.

He looked at the name on the bottom:

Sena Senamoto

‘Senamoto…why do I know that name?’

It then hit him where he knew the name.

Ramrik Senamoto.
