Chapter 10: Ten Years Later

"She's out past her curfew again," Ryou said frowning as he sat on the couchkingking at his husband. Bakura nodded. "She has some explaining to do this time and she will be grounded," he said seriously. Marik and Malik nodded firmly. Just then, the four heard a car pull in the driveway and Kali walked in a bit bushed. "Where the hell have you been, young lady?" Ryou demanded. "It's one in the morning and you're supposed to be home at midnight! Do you have any idea how worried we were?" "Jeez, don't have a cow, Papa!" she said narro her her brown eyes. "My friends and I saw a movie." Bakura frowned deeply then. "And coming home smelling like someone's been on top of you is going to the movies?" he asked crossing his arms on his chest. Kali blushed like wildfire. "I'm going upstairs," she grumbled. "No, you're going to sit here and listen to us," Bakura said grabbing her arm rather hard and pulling her back. She winced suddenly. "Daddy, that hurts!" she cried. He froze suddenly and saw the terror in her eyes.

Just like he did with Kyra in the past.

"Kura," Ryou whispered as Bakura released his grip and she looked at her arm to find his fingernails had broke through the skin and it was bleeding a little. "Marik, go take Kali upstairs and fix that," Ryou said seriously. "Malik, come with me," Marik said as they led the frightened girl off. Bakura sank down in a chair and began crying. "Why did I do that, Ryou?" he asked through his tears. "I swore I would never hurt her and look what I did!" Ryou held Bakura close to him and sighed. "I can't answer that one, Kura," he whispered. "I wish I could." Kyra had sensed moved out and was married expecting her first child. Kali was devestated and siacteacted out severely. But he saw the look of fear in his daughter's eyes as well and it hurt him deeply.

The next morning, Marik walked in Kali's room to find her asleep. Her bandaged arm lay on her stomach and he sighed as he sat down on her bedside brushing back a strand of her hair causing her to wake up. "You ok, princess?" he asked. She nodded looking at him. "I heard him crying last night," she said. "I felt like it was all my fault." He shook his head. "Don't think that way," he said and saw tears slide down her cheeks as he held her close. "I feel so alone," she sobbed. "Kyra's gone and I feel so empty." He let her have a good cry as he held her. Ryou walked in the room and Marik looked up at him. "She's still upset from last night," he said. "And she misses her sister very much." Ryou sat down and sighed. "Kali, look at me," he said. She turned her face toward him, but her eyes stared down at the floor. "Honey, your father and I love you very much," he said. "Why don't you ever talk to us and tell us how you feel besides going off and getting in trouble? Do you realize you could get pregnant or even get sick from what you did?" "We used a condom," she said. "Doesn't matter," he said. "They can break easily." He sighed heavily wishing not to go into this, but had to.

"Your mother and I had a relationship when I was around your age that got sexual," he said. "We thought a condom would work too, but it broke and she became pregnant with you. I took the responsibility of raising you since she didn't want you. She thought I was to blame when I wasn't. The last thing I need to see is for you to go through what me and your mother did." "And back when I was growing up, we never had a such thing as protection or any of the sort," Bakura said entering the room. Marik took his leave and shut the door behind him. "Kyra came due to rape," Bakura sighed. "I was a bad father to her. So bad that I lost her and another couple adopted her. I swore the day you were born and Ryou asked me to help him raise you that I would never become like I was back in the past againwantwanted to give you better. Kyra forgave me for what I did. But...I don't want to see you hurt in any way. I'm sorry I got so angry last night, but I was scared and worried something happened to you." She could see the tears forming in his eyes and snuggled against his chest like she did when she was little.

"I'm sorry," she whispered. "Please don't abandon me." "Why would we do that?" Ryou asked. "You're our daughter. We would never abandon you. We love you too damn much to do something like that." She sniffed and sighed. "Besides, you got something to look forward to this summer," he said. "Shadi wants to see you again and Laya's gonna be there. She went under a ritual to become immortal and is in training for her powers and he suggested since you're learning some of yours now that you could join her. We'll be there and so will your uncles. It'll kind of be like when we took you to Egypt when you were five. All of us, one family, will be there...but you know Kyra can't travel. She's too far along in her pregnancy and they won't allow it." Kali sighed nodding. "I wanted to be here to see my nephew born though," she pointed out. "I told Shadi we'd leave once that happens," Bakura said. "Besides, miss the chance to see my grandson being born? You have to be nuts." Kali smiled and nodded. "That's what I like to see," Ryou said. "That beautiful smile of my baby." Kali blushed.

Two months laterra wra went into labor late at night and Bakura and Ryou had to wake Kali up so they could get to the hospital in time. Kyra was in her room on medicine to help with the pain when she looked up to see her father, stepfather, and sister appear. Her husband was too nervous to watch for now. Kali walked to her sister and kissed her forehead. "Hey there," Kyra chuckled. "You ready to see your nephew?" Kali grinned nodding as the doctor walked in and said it was time. Kali and Bakura held Kyra's hands as she pushed her firstborn son into the world. He weighed in at 7 lbs. 12 oz and was very healthy. Bakura got to hold his grandson and smiled. "He's beautiful," he said and showed Kali how to hold the baby. Kali smiled and kissed her nephew on the forehead. "We're naming him after Thomas," Kyra said finally holding the baby in her arms. "Good choice," Ryou said studying his grandson and smiling. "Get some rest. We'll come by tomorrow before we catch our flight." Kyra nodded and looked at Kali. "Don't give those two a rough time," she said. "I may not be home anymore, but the last thing I need to hear is you've been cutting up." Kali nodded. "Pinky swear?" Kyra asked holding up her pinky. Kali did the same and the deal was set.

The next morning after a brief visit to see Kyra and Thomas Jr., the group set off to the airport to head to Cairo. Joey and Kaiba, who now adopted their own son the same age as Kali, was struggling to get Nick to behave since he was pretty much cocking an attitude at his parents. "Boy, don't make me hurt you in front of everyone here," Kaiba warned sternly. "Behave or else." "Dad," Nick whined. Kali rolled her eyes. "You act like such a baby," she grumbled causing him to glare at her. "Like you don't?" he snapped. "Oh shut you, you pathetic excuse for a man!" she shot back. "ENOUGH!" Joey bellowed. "Nicholas Phillip Kaiba, dat's no way to speak to Kali." Kali snickered hearing Nick's full name when Ryou shot her a look. "Same to you, Kalista Ashley Bakura," he said sternly. "Either you two wise up or you'll be grounded the rest of the trip." "Uncle Ryou!" Nick protested. "Papa!" Kali said nearly the same time. Yami, Yugi, Marik, Malik, Tristan, and Duke stood by the fathers on this one.

In Egypt, Laya ran to Kali hugging her close. The two girls were long distance best friends and talked constantly on email and letters. She had grown into quite a beauty like Kali had and Nick couldn't help looking her up and down. "Damn, she's fine," he muttered to himself causing Shadi to glare at him. "Watch it," he said sternly. The group walked to Shadi's house and Laya led Kali to her room to find Tomb Robber sitting on the windowsill, worn, but still in tact. "I kept him all these years to remember you by," she said. "It was the first time someone gave me such and it meant a lot to me." Kali smiled. "How did the ritual go?" she asked. "Painful," Laya admitted. "I have the marking on my back. It's still fresh and the bandages won't be removed for awhile. You're lucky Kyra handed hers down to you." Kali nodded. "My sister had a baby yesterday," she said. "I'm an aunt." Laya smiled. "You'll have to send me pictures," she said. "I love kids." "You'll be a good mom someday," Kali said. Laya chuckled. "I certainly hope the man Father picks for my husband thinks so too," she said.

"Girls, dinner's ready," Shadi said. "Yes, Father," Laya said standing up. Kali grabbed her hand and the two best friends sat down together far from Nick. "He's been eyeing you since he saw you," Kali whispered. "I know," Laya said. "It scares me." "I got an idea," Kali said. "Use our powers and teach him a lesson." Laya giggled nodding. "Good idea," she said. Yami and Shadi were talking about businand and Yugi and the other men carried on their own conversations. The teens mainly stuck to their guns and handled themselves. That night, Shadi explained to the girls their training would begin soon. Laya sighed. "Father, you said once my wounds healed it would," she said. "Indeed it will," Shadi said. "Will it be that hard?" Kali asked in confusion. "Possibly depending on how much you listen and how much you're willing to train," he said. "Get some rest and we'll talk more in the morning." The girls nodded and soon fell asleep.

Neither knew that what lay ahead of them would be their biggest journey into the past that they could ever imagine
