Nobody LIves Happily Ever After

Nobody Lives Happily Ever After
by Evil MJ

Disclaimer: I don’t own Yu-Gi-Oh, the stories relating to Yu-Gi-Oh, or any of the characters. I simply do this for fun, because if attempted to do any of these things to anyone in the real world I would be serving a life sentence

Warning: This story contains violence, sex (of both same and opposite sex partners), offensive language, and somewhat twisted humour. If you don’t appreciate these finer aspects of life, might I suggest using the back button on your browser and finding some thing happier?

Note to the readers:

Although I have never posted a story here before, some of my writing has appeared. I write the MJ parts in the stories ‘Angel’ and ‘You Can’t Destroy Evil” by Dragondreamer and YamiDragon. I tend to enjoy evil mind twisting stories, so if you are looking for romance and roses, you have come to the wrong place. However, if you enjoy a good romp on the dark side, WELCOME!!

Oh, yes, (…) indicates Joey’s thoughts.

Chapter One

Detective Joey Wheeler sat at his desk and stared at the computer screen intensely. It had been a good half an hour and no matter how many times he reviewed the information before him, one undeniable fact remained the same; five young women were dead. If something didn’t happen soon to break this case his ass was on the line. He had already attended three ‘production meetings’ which were just polite ways of saying the mayors office wanted this taken care of and fast. The last thing the mayor needed during an election year was a serial killer roaming his city at the height of tourist season.

(Shit, I know there is something here that I’m missing)

Joey ran a hand through his already tousled sandy blond hair in frustration. He couldn’t even look at the photos without feeling their eyes pleading, desperate for his help, it was too late to give them back their lives, but at least he could give them some justice, and maybe some closure for their grieving families.

“Yo, Wheeler, you gonna stare at that box all day or are we gonna get out of this nut house and fight some crime” He looked up to see his partner Lisa Benneti perch herself on the edge of his desk, a cocky grin on her face. A native New Yorker, she had moved to Japan with her husband, a computer nerd of some type, when he took a position with the Kaiba Corporation. Most of the time she tried to tone down the native Bronx accent, but for some reason she never did with Joey, he often suspected she was making fun of him.

“Yeah, sure Bennetti , I gotta get some coffee anyway.” He got up from the chair and groaned as his muscles ached in protest. ‘Man, I gotta start working out more.” Lisa chuckled and tossed an envelope at him

“Marc said to give you this. He found it at reception, but he didn’t see who left it”

Curious Joey ripped open the plain brown envelope and pulled out the contents. His mouth suddenly went dry and his heart thudded loudly in his ears when he realized just what it was that he was holding.

“Oh man Wheeler, is that one of those Duel Monsters cards? I haven’t seen one of those since they outlawed them, what was it, twenty years ago.”

“Twenty five.” Joey answered quickly. He gripped the card in his hand tightly and tried to shut out the images that played out in his head. The blast of light and a noise so loud he ears rang through the following week, waking up to find Yugi and Yami had disappeared, Anzu laying broken and bleeding on the ground and looks of loss and horror on the faces of Bakura and Ryou. Even all these years later he could not remember any of the events preceding this, the doctors told him that it was the minds way of protecting him from a traumatic occurrence. All he knew was that his best friend had died and his world would never be the same again.

He had screamed at Bakura to find him, to go to the Shadow Realm and bring them back, but Bakura looked at him and in a shattered voice told him that there was nothing he could do. He had shown him the millennium ring, fractured down the center and told him he was unable to tap into it’s power and was as mortal and human as the rest of them. He disappeared the next day, unable to face his new found limitations.

Anzu had been paralyzed from the blast, and spent the next year learning how to walk again, her dreams of studying dance in America shattered like the bones in her body. She had become bitter and turned away from her friends. She claimed they only reminded her of happier times and things that she could no longer have.

He and Tristan stayed tight for a while. Until things with Mai became serious, things quickly heated up and their friendship became an intense romance. Tristan started to change after that, claiming that Joey was spending all his time with her. One night they both got drunk out in Joey’s back yard, the usual banter quickly turned into a loud argument. It was then that their friendship ended, in a rush of tears, his tongue freed by the alcohol Tristan admitted not only that he was bi-sexual, but that he was in love with Joey.

Joey still couldn’t think of that night without feeling that he could have done more, instead he let Tristan run off into the night and he never saw him again. He had found his solace in Mai. The woman he would love for the rest of his life. They married several years later and then Mai gave birth to Kyla, his angel, and for a while things were wonderful. Joey was accepted into the police force, and Mai juggled motherhood and academia until she attained her law degree. He closed his eyes and felt a sharp pain deep in his chest in remembrance of how happy they were, until the incident with Serenity. Angrily forced himself back to reality. He was not going to think about that now, it was far to painful, like nerves too close to the skin. The truth was he fucked up, and now he was alone. If it wasn’t for the fact that Mai had let him and Kyla continue to have a close relationship and allowed him to be her father, he was sure things would have turned out much differently.

“Joe, hey, Earth to Joe! You there buddy, what’s up?” Lisa gave him a little shove, bringing him out of his reverie and back into reality.

“Sorry Benneti, gathering wool. Look, we ain’t got time for this crap, we got more important things to deal with. Did you say we have a witness to the Lee abduction?” He asked trying to take her attention from the card he slipped onto his desk.

“Yeah, some guy thinks he may have seen Amana Lee on the night she was taken. He claims he couldn’t see the person she was with clearly, but he has a good description of the car they left in. Said he would meet us on his lunch break down at the dock yard.” She grabbed her coat off the desk opposite his.

“Great, we could use a help on this one. It’s starting to feel like these girls are just vanishing into thin air.” He followed Lisa out the door, the card already moving to the back of his mind.

Meanwhile on his desk the Dark Magician waited.

Well, there it is my friends. I would appreciate the reviews and any constructive criticism you can offer, however no flames please, I am a pyromaniac and would most likely to set the fire that will destroy California.
