Hope you enjoy ^_^
Tied Together - Chapter 1
“What it the matter with you two!? Can you not go one day without making a spectacle of yourselves?!” It was Wednesday and Joey and Kaiba were once again in the principal’s office for fighting on school grounds. Joey swore that this time it was totally Kaiba’s fault; there he was just minding his own business when Kaiba had strolled in being all Kaiba-like and he had just snapped...ok so maybe he wasn’t completely innocent but damn it Kaiba had started it! “It’s barely half way through the week and you two have been brought in here five times already!” Mr Matsumoto, their principal continued.
Neither Jou nor Kaiba said anything; they had said it all before anyway. They knew how this went, the principal would shout then give them a lecture about the school rules, before sending them off each with an after school detention. It didn’t matter what they said it was always the same. Mr Matsumoto sighed heavily, falling back into his seat.
“I’m seriously running out of ideas about what to do with you two. Detention or any other form of punishment doesn’t seem to be getting through. Luckily I have a person who has requested that they take over.” Joey looked at their principal in surprise. Ok so this was different. I wonder who it is. He thought. An annoyed frown had settled on Mr Matsumoto’s face, so it didn’t look like it was gonna be anyone good. “Ok,” he said standing again. “Let’s get this over with. Come with me.” He headed out of his office, Kaiba and Joey exchanged an awkward glance before following him out.
They soon found themselves in front of the student counsellor’s door. Joey could now understand why the principal was annoyed. He had heard strange things about the new counsellor; she had only been there for a few weeks but had already built up a weird reputation. She was rumoured to be a something of an odd ball and because she had rarely been seen around the school since she got her, Joey had been a little curious to see what she was like. Of course it would have been better if the circumstances where different. Oh well you can’t win them all. Mr Matsumoto knocked curtly on the door, but received no answer. He tried again, louder this time. Still no reply. Jou could see that his hands had fisted at his sides in irritation and backed anyway slightly. Kaiba cast him a strange look but reframed from saying anything.
Growling low in his throat Matsumoto open the door, his mood not lightening any at what he found within. Joey peeked around their angry principal to see a figure lounging back in a chair. It was almost a comical sight. The woman was leant back, feet resting on the desk in front of her and her head thrown back with a book perfectly balanced over her face, making it hard to tell whether she was passed out, asleep or just ignoring them on purpose. Mr Matsumoto cleared his throat and as Jou expected it got no response.
“Miss Ohana!” he finally called out. “You are seriously trying my patience. Get up!” A soft yawn reached their ears has the figure shifted lightly. A hand came up and lifted the book so the woman’s young face could view her visitors. Amber eyes took in each of them in turn, a lazy expression present over her features. Ohana’s eyes moved back to Matsumoto.
“Oh principal, I didn’t hear you come in.” Joey thought that Matsumoto was ready to explode at her words, it wasn’t funny really but he couldn’t help the smile that pulled at his lips. Unable to suppress it, Joey had to cover his mouth with a hand not wanting to get into more trouble than he already was. He then snuck a quick glance at Kaiba wondering if the ever serious guy found something like this amusing. The answer to that would be no, shocking I know, but the obvious wrinkles on his forehead plainly stated his opinion on the matter. He almost looked as pissed as Matsumoto. Joey could easily imagine what the other boy was thinking, something along the lines of Why am I here? This is all the Mutts fault! This woman is clearly an idiot. What a waste of my time. Yep that’s exactly what’s going on inside that arrogant head of his, he would bet money on it.
Ohana removed the book completely revealing a pretty face with shoulder length black hair. Sitting up properly in her chair, she gave the principal a concerned look. “Is something the matter? You look somewhat flushed.” Joey could literally see the man count to ten before answering. Thinking it better to just ignore that question Matsumoto decided to stick to business.
“I have brought the two students you requested to see.” He said in an extremely forced calm voice. “So I’ll just leave you...”
“Students?” She asked bemused. She still looked to be half asleep, her lazy expression back in place. “I didn’t ask for any students.”
“Yes you did. They’re the ones that have been fighting.”
“Fighting?”
“Yes! You said you could help stop their aggressive behaviour.” Mr Matsumoto said sounding very exasperated. Ohana leant forward on her desk, brow furrowed as if struggling with the memory.
“I did?” she questioned. “When?”
“Yesterday!” Matsumoto said through greeted teeth. Ohana seemed to be a little shock by that.
“Yesterday, really?!” she said leaning back in the seat again. Suddenly her face lit up. “Oh! Yes, I remember now.” She finally got up from her chair. “The fighting students...yes... I’m there...” She seemed completely oblivious to state she had put Mr Matsumoto into. “...and where are they?”
“Right Here!!” he all but screamed at her, gesturing to where Kaiba and Joey stood by uncomfortably. Ohana didn’t even give them a glance; instead her attention was aimed solely on the fuming head teacher, giving him a worried look.
“Now are you sure there’s nothing brothering you Mr Matsumoto?” She says in that calm patronizing voice that people in the medical industry tend to use when speaking with patients. “Anything at all you would like to talk about? I mean... I know that is says “student” counsellor but I like to think that I can be of use to the staff here as well.” Matsumoto just looked at her as if she was insane, desperately trying to get his anger under control while he had to deal with this woman.
“Why in the hell did I hire you?!” He says aloud, following his train of thought.
“Well...” Ohana starts seemingly unaware that the principal was leaving her office, making a break for it while he saw an opening, clearly not wanting an answer to his rhetorical question. “... I guess because I was the only....”
“Um...” Joey interrupts, not being able to watch her continue speaking to herself. “...he’s left.” Ohana looks to him then back to where Mr Matsumoto was moments before.
“Oh...well why did he ask if he didn’t want an answer?” Yawning again Ohana heads back over to her desk, opening a draw and rummaging through it. Joey wondered if he should say something when he heard her utter a triumphed “Ah ha!” Clearly she had found what she was looking for; however Joey didn’t get a chance to see, as whatever it was, was hidden behind her back. “Now... it is you two isn’t it?” She asked as if making absolutely sure about what was going on. Joey merely nodded while Kaiba did his usual hmph. “Ok then, could you both hold out your arms please.” Joey did so without thinking, not stopping to consider whether this was a smart thing to do or not. But it was their teacher after all, so what was the worst that could happen? (Ah famous last words!) Kaiba on the other hand didn’t move an inch.
“No, why should I?” he stated moodily arms folded across his chest.
“Because I asked you to.” Still Kaiba didn’t budge, his whole being radiating irritation. Not even remotely phased Ohana continued. “Look at it this way the sooner you do this, the sooner you can leave. Just humour me for a minute.” Deciding that the faster he could get out of here the better Kaiba finally conceited and unfolded his arms, holding them out in front of him. Before either could ask what was the point of all this, Ohana had slapped one side of a handcuff on Joey’s left wrist and the other side on Kaiba’s right. “There. You can go back to class now.” Dismissing them from her attention, Ohana promptly returned to her seat behind her desk, book in hand, ready to revert to her previous position before she got disturbed.
“What the hell is this?!!” Kaiba choked in outrage, staring horrified at the metal bracelet around his wrist.
“A pair of handcuffs.” She answered as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. “Well a special pair really. I had them modified just for you.”
“I don’t care! Remove them.” Kaiba demanded striding forwards to her desk pulling Joey with him.
“I’ll remove at the end of the day and not before. Now I really think you should get back to class, you might be missing something important.”
“I’m not leaving until you take these off of me. I will not walk around this school with a mutt on a leash!”
“Watch it Kaiba, I don’t want to be attached to your pompous ass either!” Joey growled glaring daggers at the brunet who narrowed his eyes back. An “ahem” brought both of their attention back to their counsellor.
“You either wear them or get expelled. Your choice.” She said leaning back putting her feet up on top of her desk. “Personally I would just head off to class.” With that said she placed the book back over her face, hands resting limply at her side.
“Expelled?! You can’t! That’s not fair!” Jou exclaimed, a hint of a pleading tone creeping into his voice. It seemed to go unheard however as it elicited no response from Ohana. It appeared that she had gone back to ignoring them cos there was no way that anyone could fall asleep that quickly. Apparently it had all become too much for Kaiba, his patience which was already wearing thin had snapped completely. Marching over to the door, he wrenched it open and stormed out dragging Joey along behind him.
“Whoa Kaiba! Stop! Quit yanking me around!” Jou called out but to no avail as Kaiba continue to stroll briskly down the corridor. Not wanting his hand pulled off and refusing to chase after the CEO, Joey grabs the chain that binds them together, pulling it back, hard. He soon realised that this may not have been such a great idea, sure Kaiba didn’t fall over, Joey never really expected him too however he did not look to happy at being yanked backwards in a rather undignified way. It was when he saw the murderous glare directed at him that it hit Joey that now being chained to Kaiba he had nowhere to run. Shit was the only thought that entered his head when the brunet started to advance towards him. Unable to do anything else, Joey stood his ground fighting the urge to back away.
“What was that Wheeler?” Kaiba breathed out in a deadly tone of voice.
“You wouldn’t stop.” Joey said hoping he sounded braver than he felt. Apparently not. Kaiba didn’t seem at all phased as he reached out for Joey’s shirt collar, grapping it and pulling him close.
“Don’t you dare do that again.”
“Fine.” Joey snapped fighting to get out of Kaiba’s hold. “Then stop trying to rip my arm off!” As if concluding that Joey was no longer worth this, Kaiba releases him. He then turns on his heal, walking calmly towards their classroom door. Taking a few seconds to roughly smooth down his uniform, Jou begrudgingly follows after him.
Their teacher looked over at them as soon as they opened the door, Joey wondered briefly what the teacher would make of this situation and how in the hell they would explain it but it appeared that Mr Naruse already knew what to expect.
“Ah I see you two have been to see Miss Ohana. I have set aside desks for the pair of you over there.” He says pointing to the far corner where there are two empty desks, one in front of the other. “Can you take your seats please, so I can continue with my lesson?” Joey and Kaiba crossed the room to their chairs, desperately trying to ignore the stares from their fellow classmates. Joey could see Yugi and Tristan giving him concerned looks, no doubt eager to hear about how and why he was now chained to his least favourite person.
AN: I've had the idea of putting these two together like this for a while now, even before watching Death Note. I'm glad I've finally got round to writing it. I'll try to update as soon as I can but I haven't finished writing it all yet so please bear will me. Thanks for reading.
