Title: The Last Merman

Description: Mokuba finally convinces his brother to go on a boating trip to get him away from work. Kaiba goes, but ends up meeting a very unusual friend.
Chapter 1: The Enounter
“Nii-sama! Are we still leaving?” asks Mokuba as he stands impatiently near the front door.
“Yea, I’m coming.” Replies Kaiba before putting his cell phone back to his ear.
“Will you get off that phone! You don’t have anything to worry about. You left the company in reliable hands. If anything goes wrong, then someone will call us.”
After another 5 minutes or so of confirming everything, to the smallest detail, was in good order for the next week. Kaiba had planned on not being disturbed anytime this week or few people were going to be fired.
“Let’s go Mokuba.” Kaiba says as they walk out the door to the limousine.
“I’m so excited we’re finally taking a vacation nii-sama!”
“Is that what you call this?” replies Kaiba as he slowly relaxes.
“We haven’t taken the yacht out in so long; I’m surprised it still works.”
“I pay enough for yearly maintenance and upkeep, so it better work!”
Mokuba laugh and Kaiba even smiles.
As they reach Domino Dock, they see their medium-sized yacht, The M.S. Kaiba. The butlers and maids waiting at the port make sure their luggage is in their room. Kaiba and Mokuba board the vessel before the captain guides the liner out the dock at into the Pacific Ocean.
The two brothers change into their bathing suits and swim in the pool.
‘It’s good to be me!’ thinks Kaiba as he calmly floats on his back as Mokuba swims laps around him.
“Nii-sama, it’s been a while since I last saw you relaxed like this.”
“Yes, it feels great Mokuba. I have to admit that you were right, I needed this.”
They continue swimming and playing a few games of water volleyball before getting out, preparing for dinner. After dinner, the two play board games and watch TV until Mokuba falls asleep. Kaiba changes his brother into his PJ’s and puts him in his bed, before returning to his room.
“This is wonderful. I’m taking the boat out more after this.” He says before looking around the rather large master bedroom.
He leaves his room and goes to the deck to the side railing and looks out the side at the calm ocean waves.
“So beautiful.”
~~Below the Ocean~~
A fish…unlike any other quietly swims beneath the waters of the Pacific Ocean. Occasionally, this fish would appear above water to see the stars and the various vessels that sailed by. Little did this fish know that it was a local legend. Many sought to catch this creature, but none successful.
“I think it’s going to be a beautiful night.” It says as it swims closer to the water’s surface.
As it surfaces, it spots a medium sized yacht with images of a dragon decorating it. For some reason or another, the fish unconsciously swims closer to the vessel, gawking at the beautiful designs.
“What the hell?!” the fish hears something yell before suddenly stopping…seemingly frozen in its path.
The fish looks up and sees a human with an astonished look on its face before quickly going beneath the ocean’s surface.
The fish gasps as it finally stops swimming for a breather. “That human…saw me…”
~~On the Ship~~
Kaiba falls back and ends up losing his balance, landing on his backside, surprised at what he just saw…or thinks he just saw.
“Mermaids don’t exist! They’re a myth, a legend, something I just imagined. Yea, that’s it…I work way too hard!”
Kaiba slowly crawls back to the spot he was standing and peeks between the railings.
“Nothing, see I was imagining things.” He says as he slowly stands.
He once again looks out at the somewhat memorizing ocean, still caught up in the image of what he saw. Eventually Kaiba’s position switches to where he is looking at the moon, shaking off what he thought he saw…
“This is too relaxing. I may never go back.” He quickly shakes his head before saying, “Like that’ll ever happen. I probably wouldn’t have a company when I decided to return. They lucky they only get a week free of me and that’s only because of Mokuba.”
Kaiba’s eyes suddenly wander towards the right as he hears a rather large splash. Out the corner of his eye, directly in front of him, he sees the full version of the mermaid as it once again dives in and out the ocean. With each splash, it gets closer to the ship. Determined to prove his vision wrong, Kaiba just stands there as it comes closer and closer.
“To hell with a mermaid, it’s a merMAN!”
With curiosity getting the best of him, he continues to stay, now determined to communicate with it. The merman finally stops his display and swims close enough to where Kaiba has a perfect view of him.
‘What the hell do I say to a merman?!’ thinks Kaiba before opening his mouth to yell, “Komban wa!”
Apparently the merman hears him as he stops and looks up at the man talking to him. He waves.
“Hello.”
‘It spoke to me…I must be sleep-walking. Yea, lack of sleep…’
“How are you, human?” yells the merman.
“You can understand me?!”
“Yes.”
“Wait a minute; I’m coming down closer to you.” Kaiba says before running down to a lower level. He goes to the side window and slides the circular glass up enough for him to stick half of his body out of it.
“Hey, merman!” he yells as he looks around for the mythical creature.
The merman slowly emerges from the water up to waist. Kaiba could only gasp at the beauty of the creature from the occasional green of his torso up to the tips of his rough shoulder-length blond hair.
The merman was in equal awe. It was the first time he had allowed himself to be seen up close by a human. But to him, it was well worth it. He reached a scaly-webbed hand out towards the human and touched his face and hair.
“You’re very smooth.” The merman said.
In return, Kaiba had reached out to touch the merman’s face and hair.
“You’re not as rough as I though, especially since you’re covered in small scales like a fish.”
“I’m not only a fish, I’m part human. I’m what you call a merman.” He says before allowing Kaiba to see his large greenish-colored fin.
Kaiba reaches and takes hold of the merman’s hand.
“Your hand is webbed like a duck, but you still have the freelance opposable thumb like a human.”
“I must go now. Please don’t tell anyone about me. All of your kind is not nice and most want me dead or locked up.”
“You have my word.”
“Will I see you again? I want to get to know you better.”
“I will be further east of here. I’m headed to my private island about a hundred miles from here.”
“Ok. I will see you around this time, when the moon is high.” The merman says before quickly disappearing beneath the ocean’s surface once again.
Kaiba pulls himself back into the boat and closes the window and locks it. When he turns around to leave, he sees Mokuba standing in the doorway running his eyes.
“Mokuba! What are you doing up?” asks Kaiba as he lets his brother ride piggyback.
“I was dreaming and then I had to pee. I heard something down here and came to see what it was.”
“Oh, I didn’t mean to disturb you.” He says as he walks upstairs to their bedrooms. He stops at Mokuba’s room and puts him in bed, covering him up, and giving him a small kiss on the forehead before going back to his room.
Kaiba goes into the bathroom and turns on the shower. He strips himself before getting in and allowing the steamy water to soothe his body.
‘I wonder if he has a name. For something that is so mythical, it was handsome. I guess I’ll ask him tomorrow.’
