Yugioh Genex : War Games

by Manjoume-nyah

The balance is slowly losing it’s ground. Should we leave this to continue, our worlds may suffer the
consequences...Many people could die. There won’t be much left for you after which...

“But if I do this and I send them back...”

I’ll be gone. Not one to excuse, even me. But you are a survivor now, a fighter, it isn’t as if you would be
completely lost without me.

The whir of the spinning blades was relatively relaxing. As was the expanse of bright blue sea, that
stretched out as far as the eye could see. A solitary island in the southern Pacific Ocean was slowly
coming into view. It wouldn’t be long now, soon he would be in the midst of duelists competing in the last
legs of the Genex tournament. He had no medal with which to enter, but that was a moot point, sighing as
he adjusted the Masquerade mask of blue trimmed with gold resting over his eyes.

You have no medal.

“I’ll get one. Steal it, lie for it. I’ll get a medal and be in the tournament officially.”

And your brother?

“It’ll take him a little while, but I’m sure there’s at least one servant willing enough to snitch. There always
is.”

The pilot looked over his shoulder at the passenger seemingly talking to himself. His employer had been
doing so the entire flight thus far and didn’t seem on the verge of stopping yet. The sooner he dropped the
man off at his destination and received his paycheck, the better.

Awfully stoic. More so than usual.

“Considering what I have to do, all for the best.”

If that is so.

There was no further conversation, as the view of the island grew in size. The helicopter rocked slightly as
it prepared it’s landing on the pad overlooking the docks. While a trip via ferry would have been much
nicer; quiet, time to be alone...Said time was of the essence. Seven days. The thought had the man’s
stomach knotting up unexpectedly. He took a soothing breath to relax himself. A final shudder and they
were no longer moving. It was time to step off and face the inevitable.

Slipping a sealed envelope over the shoulder of the pilot’s seat, the relieved pilot took his pay. It was pay
not only for the trip, but also for his silence. But a bribe on the other side would have him talking. That or
the threat of being fired. His passenger made a neat, hasty exit of the vehicle, ducking under the blades
until he was clear.

His Victorian black spool heels dug into the grass once he had descended the steps of the flight landing
and moved onto softer ground. The man’s entire choice of dress looking something akin to an entertainer
at a Masquerade ball. It was dark blue in color, save the short gloves and the boots he wore. Gold thread
was woven in a spidery pattern on the long coat, underneath was tight hose. A short jacket with puffed,
exaggerated shoulders that belled out at the end of the sleeve was with out decoration. A cat mask was
fitted over his face, his dark hair ruffled considerable and hanging in wisps about his slender face. A duel
disk was strapped to his left arm.

You look a lovely sight.

“It’s no different than what I wore in the circus. You know that. Besides, it helps to keep me undercover.
The incredible Mesmer.” The man smiled to himself, the voice that spoke to him and only him laughed
with good-natured mirth. A pair of students, standing by who had observed the new arrival, scoffed at him.

“That explains where he came from...the circus. What a freak.” The two boys, both from the Ra Yellow
dorm as per their yellow blazers indicated, laughed at him. “And he talks to himself to boot!”

An unseen, slim brow rose as he regarded the two. “I suppose one of you have a Genex medal...How
about a challenge, mm?”

“Whatever. I’ll mop the floor with you and take your medal. Then you can go back to the big top!” The
taller boy, thick in build with a broad chin, held up his duel disk. Unwilling to decline a challenge. The gayly
dressed arrival held his up as well. The device came to life, lights aflare and platform extending. Their life
points read 4000 each.

“If you don’t mind, I want to go first. I have things to do, people to duel, and spirits to banish. First, I will
play the spell card Wave-Motion Cannon. In my main phase, I can send this to the grave and you’ll suffer
1000 damage for every one of my stand-by phases it survives. Next, a face-down and I will summon
Breaker the Magical Warrior.” The beginning move was smooth, setting in motion a means for decent
damage and a 1900 strong warrior, who rose on the field, crimson armor glittering in the dying sunlight.

The Ra Yellow snorted. Obviously, he was less than impressed. “You suck, old man. Since you have a
monster and I don’t, I’ll be special summoning a Cyber Dragon in attack mode.” The serpent of steel rose
on the field, giving a shriek as it showed Mesmer it’s impressive 2100 attack. The boy pointed at the card
he had face-down, “And I don’t trust that, so I’ll play Mystical Space Typhoon on it!”

A small, but powerful tornado blew onto the field, twisting towards the face-down card sitting behind the
man’s Breaker. Mesmer smirked. “While I would like to let you just destroy my card, I want to put it to use
first. I activate my Magic Jammer, discarding Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke in the process.” The trap flipped
and an arcane pattern appeared on the played spell, shattering the hologram. Both boys stared at him as
if he had grown a second, grotesque head.

“What the hell! Why did you destroy the spell that was going to destroy that trap anyway? You just wasted
a card! I’ll set a face-down and now, Cyber Dragon, attack his warrior.” The machine powered a bright
blast of light in it’s mouth, expelling the ball of energy on Breaker, destroying him and dealing meager
damage.

Drawing, Mesmer smirked at them, rather evilly. “I didn’t waste a card. You see, you just helped me a little
more. But that will come in a moment...first, I activate the effect of my Wave-Motion Cannon. I send it to
the grave to deal you 1000 in damage!”

The cannon took it’s turn, blasting the man’s opponent with it’s own surge of light, hitting the boy square in
the stomach and bringing him to his knees. The Ra Yellow grunted as he brought himself back to his feet,
shaken but still in the game.. “Lucky son of a...”

“Next, I play the spell Soul Absorption. While this is in effect, the controller of this card gains 500 life points
every time a card is removed from play. Now, you should know what may come...because I remove
Breaker and Sasuke from play...Dark and Light.” As he removed the two monsters from play, their spirits
left the graveyard, floating around their owner before the flew into him, raising his life points by 1000. “And
I will now special summon the Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End.”

A fissure ripped open in the scenery just behind Mesmer, revealing a black void crackling with electricity.
From the void emerged a great, demonic beast. The dragon’s head, skull like in it’s appearance, reared
back as it howled into the air. Long orange hair flowing from the back of it’s head settled about it’s gnarled,
golden shoulders and green scales. The students looked shocked, realizing that the move they had
ridiculed a moment ago had actually been frightfully clever. All instrumental in bringing out a most powerful
beast. Mesmer smiled blissfully, having summoned his favorite monster, he was pleased.

“While I adore this monster, I have to say good-bye as I put his effect to use. Paying 1000 life points, all
cards on both our fields and both of our hands are sent to the grave. And for every card, you lose 300.”
Bounding to the center of the field, the Envoy of the End was slowly engulfed in a blinding light, which
spread out from the center in an agonizing, sluggish pace. Soon the sphere of light exploded with a
thunderous roar, slamming the boy back and dealing 2100 in damage. Now their fields were clear as well
as their hands. “Ready to start with a clean slate if you are, twerp.”

“Damn...I hate top decking...” The Ra Yellow sneered to himself, drawing a new card when his turn began.
It was a dud, absolutely useless at the moment. With a snarl, he ended his turn, field still empty or either
offense or defense. He hoped his opponent came up equally empty handed as well.

“That’s too bad. I rather enjoy it myself. Gets the blood pumping, in a way. Makes you pray to a God that’s
not there...” Mesmer drew and smirked. Luck was with him. He had the perfect way to beat the boy. To
beat him slowly with a good dose of humiliation. “It seems my deck was eager to run you into the dirt...I
summon another one of my favorite monsters, Yata-Garasu.”

Giving me a bite to eat, I see. Before the man, a dark, iridescent raven appeared on the field. A large skull
gripped in it’s black talons, spreading it’s violet wings as it cawed at the boy who frowned at the weak stats
of the monster. The stats were not what the boy had to fear. “When this monster succeeds in attacking
you directly, you have to skip your draw phase. So, now, you are in the infamous Yata-lock and there is no
way for you to save yourself.”

Turn after turn, the man re-summoned the spirit monster, hitting the boy repeatedly who had to end his
turn, practically empty handed each time. It wasn’t long before the boy crumpled to his knees once his life
points finally dwindled to nothing. Stalking forward like a cat on the prowl, Mesmer crouched down and
took the medal that fell before his opponent. “The power of Chaos, not something to take lightly. There’s
your lesson for the day. Class is dismissed.”

He turned to the other boy, who looked dumbfounded beyond anything else. The man raised a hand,
crooking his finger to gesture him over, “I’m not finished yet...I need a few more medals, kid. Time for your
lesson now.”

-=-=-

“Gotcha!”

Manjoume sighed. Another medal for the drop-out boy. The tournament had been going on for days now.
But in the course of the previous two days, a startling number of participants were suddenly disqualified,
their medals won from them by someone else. Someone with a date to meet, obviously. The pickings
were getting slimmer. Now only the strongest of duelists were left with medals. When there was only a
certain number left, it would be time for the main event.

The perky brunette bounced towards his rival, while he had serious things in mind, mostly involving Saiou
and his plans, it didn’t seem to affect his outward cheer. Manjoume couldn’t help but envy him a little for
that. He himself had been relatively stressed since leaving the Hikari no Kessha. Memories on things that
had happened were still fuzzy. He figured after some time, he would remember them. But that did not
keep the guilt of winning that mad-man so many followers from nipping at his heels.

Jun was shaken from his thoughts as arms circled around his waist and pulled him into a snug, somewhat
unwelcome hug. He growled, feeling himself pressed into Juudai’s chest as the brunette, Gods knew why,
hugged him as if they were the best of friends. With a hiss, like a disturbed cat, Manjoume grabbed his
shoulders and pushed him off. He took a step back, “What the hell! Off...Now! And stay that way!”

“Aw...But Manjoume-“

“San-daa!”

Ignoring as the red-clad duelist gave him a severe pout, the black haired boy turned away from him as
their resident Pro Leaguer joined them. Edo shot Juudai a bemused look, having stood by and observed
the duel. With so many medals in hand, the silver haired boy was secure in his position in the tournament.
He was going no where. None of them were, considering the number they had in hand. “As fast as some
of us are prone to working, I’ve yet to see anyone work as fast as the new duelist. Even if I’ve yet to
witness a duel. Then again, Chaos decks are prone to being especially vicious...”

“Chaos decks, eh? I wanna duel him!” Juudai bounced up, waving his hand in the air. He had practically
called dibs on the next opponent. His dark haired rival merely rolled his eyes. The former Obelisk gone
Osiris made it his silent resolution to find the Chaos duelist before the brunette could. Who would be
laughing then.”Don’t gimme that look, Manjoume, I’m going to be the one to duel him. Me!”

“San-daa! You ninny!”

Edo was inclined to let them continue, watching several members of the Kessha move by them. Each one
giving them a deathly glare. Right back at you...The silver-haired boy shook his head. It was next to
impossible, getting a hold of his manager now. But according to the fortuneteller, they were officially
enemies now. Give or take a few words. The message had been damningly clear. “Mystery duelists
aside...It’s time for lunch. I’ll let you two have your fun.”

Manjoume, in mid-swing to swat Juudai upside his head, froze. He glared at Edo. There was no having
fun with Juudai. Not for him anyway. “Fun my ass. Loser minds think alike, you take him, Hero-boy.”

“Oh, but the display of affection between you two is so sweet, I couldn’t possibly tear you apart.” The
younger boy countered with a sickly sweet tone, well on his way before Manjoume, who went slack jawed,
could devise a reply. His blithe laugh could be heard as he put distance between the two Osiris students
and himself.

“Affection between us?” Juudai shot his long time rival a clueless look If Edo had implied anything, it flit
over the boy’s head with amazing speed. Sometimes Manjoume was stumped by it.

As he sighed, Manjoume nearly jumped from his skin. A loud clap of thunder had intervened before any
snide commentary could ensue. Somewhat ruffled, more from the boom than from what Edo had
insinuated, the dark haired teen grimaced. It sounded as though rain was on the way and he had no desire
to be caught in the downpour. Plus it was about that time for lunch and he was a little hungry. He did not
want to watch Juudai stuff his face like usual, but the idea of fried shrimp and sticky jasmine rice was most
appealing. Very much so, he smirked to himself. “Lunch sounds good. Go fall in a ditch somewhere.”

“Hey, I’m not going to be falling in a ditch! My lunch!” Shooting past the former Obelisk, Juudai blew him a
raspberry as he raced on his way towards the run-down Osiris dorm. Manjoume sniffed daintily. Part of
him wanted to laugh with amusement at the other teen’s gluttony. And if the boy thought he was going to
race him back to the dorm, he had another thing coming. Most likely, Sho and Kenzan were waiting on
them. Juudai’s two stooges. Manjoume was not one, he would not indulge as such and he still had yet to
figure out what the two adored in Juudai.

“Loser...”

He watched the trail of dust that had risen in the brunette’s wake settle back to the dirt road where it
belonged. The long, empty road traveled by a few small handfuls of people. With so many duelists out of
the Genex running now, the island was considerably quieter. In fact, when he rolled it over in his mind...

Manjoume stopped. He looked around. It was unusually quiet. There were no singing birds. No chirping
crickets. Even the frogs that lived near the pond before the Obelisk dorm were mute. He could hear
students as they talked, shouted, dueled...But nature in itself was as silent as a tomb. It gave him
gooseflesh, thinking about it and he hurried his pace down the road. For some odd reason, he could feel
eyes watching him. It was a familiar sensation. Familiar, and troubling. His pace grew in speed. Silently,
he berated himself.

Okay, Jun, don’t start scaring yourself now. It’s just your imagination running wild on you, that’s all. You’ll
go to bed tonight, listening to the crickets before you put in the ear plugs and think nothing of it...
