Chapter 1: Alone
A man sat on a throne, slouched back and rested his head on his hand. It was dark and the large orb in the sky that was the light, known as Ra, had gone down many hours ago. The man sighed in his tiredness and blinked his heavy eyelids.
Then, another figure came into the doorway.
“You’re highness?” the man asked.
The sitting male became alert and lifted his, now heavy, head.
“Hmm?”
The other strode closer as his features became clear and recognizable in the dim torch light.
“Sire, it is quite late and you have a large achievement to make tomorrow. You should get your rest.”
Again, the man sighed.
“I suppose you are right,” he said with grogginess.
“I am quite exhausted.”
He yawned and stretched his arms.
“Come, sir. I will escort you to your room.”
The man nodded and got up from his throne, walking to his cohort.
“Thank you, Seto. I doubt I could have made the trek alone. I might have ended up in the cook’s bed in the morning. Think of the rumors that would spread.”
Seto chuckled.
“Yes. The kingdom would be in an uproar with questions…although, they are pretty testy at the moment, what with your little happening tomorrow.”
“Hmm. I can only imagine. Though, I doubt that I will find what I am looking for.”
Seto looked over.
“Why do you say that, Pharaoh?”
He shook his head.
“Please. Not you, especially not this late. Call me by my name.”
“Alright then, Atemu.”
The said man glared up at Seto as he chuckled.
“So tell me, Yami. What do you mean by you won’t find what you’re looking for?”
Yami sighed.
“I don’t know. It just…it all seems so pointless.”
“What does?”
“Marriage to someone I barely know.”
Seto nodded as he thought of his words carefully.
“Everyone has a soul mate, whether it is someone from a bordering kingdom or someone in the village. You will one day find that person you are looking for. Just don’t push it. Beggars cannot be choosers.”
“I suppose you are right, my friend.”
As they approached Yami’s room, they said their farewells and turned their separate ways leaving Yami to ponder about the priest’s words.
‘You will one day find that person you are looking for. Just don’t push it. Beggars cannot be choosers.’
“I will find who I am looking for…” Yami repeated to himself quietly.
“I just hope that I find him soon. I can bare this loneliness no longer.”
With that, he changed and got underneath his covers…and slept.
