hahaha don't worry if a story turns dark one in a while, if Kaiba is not a bastard in some point he would not be Kaiba, it is part of what he is and in some strange way we love him as that. I don't care how much I will suffer with a story if at the end I am going to get a happy ending, let your inspiration flow, is your story, your choice where do you want it to go. No matter how they relationship could start, I can't see Kaiba as a fluffy partner either, yes I can see him changing thanks to Joe and turn to be a good boyfriend but not as sweet as sometimes he is portrayed! well that is my point of view! Oh! I forgot to said that the lemon was hooooooooooooooot *¬* love it! and with that scene we were able to see that even if Kaiba is a bastard he still cares about his partner's pleasure and he did everything he could to do it less painful for Joe, he could have only took want he wanted and leave, but he gave Joe pleasure and believe me that means a lot!!! Could be that our beloved neko feels much more than just lust for the puppy???
